  1. Hi everyone, I am new in Cape Town, recently moved from George. I am looking for a MTB group to join over weekends. I am not a strong rider but I need to train for Knysna Oyster festival & Karoo to Coast. What groups are available to join??
  2. Hi all, We at the ErgoFiT concept studio have just updated our website. Please take a look at our services and what we can offer. 3. Hi everyone, so I am looking for one or two mountain biking buddies. I used to ride in Tokai perfectly on my own as I knew it like the back of my hand but with Tokai closed, after 2 years of staying away from the Block House I decided last weekend to go on a ride there but turned around half-way due to safety reasons. I am an average rider with intermediate skills trying to up my miles for longer races. So if there's anyone in the Southern Suburbs, mostly in the Claremont / Newlands / Rondebosch and surrounding areas who is keen on going for rides and around the same skills level, get in touch and let's see how it goes. Thanks.
  4. I'm going to be in Camps Bay next week and will probably bring my road bike along. Firstly, is road bike the right option? Secondly, if so where's the best route out and back or looping from there? (I don't really know the area too well). And if I get shouted down by the Mtb crew for bringing a road bike, where would I Mtb from there? It's a family trip so I'm only going to spend a couple of hours in the early morning on the bike, for a couple of days. I just need to keep ticking over. I do use a Garmin 1000 so if anyone is kind enough to share a route or two it'd be appreciated. Thanks in advance
  5. Okay, so the topic name might be a bit misleading. So my Mom and Dad went down to the Argus this year with some friend's (Faizal and his family) who had travelled from Ixopo in Kwa-Zulu Natal. And they came back with some really horrible stories of stuff that happened on the way to Cape Town. I'm posting this so that be can be aware and take care while in the vicinities I'm about to write about. First, they were going through Umtata at 4pm on a Tuesday, they had a trailer with a bike rack on the lid hitched to their car. They reached a main intersection in the town and were stopped at a robot/4-way. Suddenly people from all around the intersection started shouting and hooting at them, Faizal thought he had done something wrong to cause this reaction, but he caught a glimpse of his rear view mirror and saw some guys trying to take his bikes of the trailer, they didn't give up even while he was moving. Faizal eventually got rid of them thankfully with all his bikes still attached to his trailer. The second incident happened to Faizal's son in law, Yaseer, who was driving from Durban on Wednesday evening before the Argus weekend. At about 1 in the morning they were close to King Williams Town when they came to a section in the road where rocks were laid right across both lanes. They hit some rocks and unfortunately damaged one of the wheels quite badly so that car wasn't drivable anymore. Yaseer and his brother quickly made some calls to see if they could get some help. The boys decided to wait in the car and wait for help as it was pitch dark outside. After waiting a few minutes, somebody had started throwing rocks at the vehicles. breaking all of the windows and damaging the vehicle even more. After the rocks, some guys came to the car and took all their valuables, including cycling equipment and clothing, bags, car keys, but not before beating Yaseer up with a rock on his face. Long story short (might be too late for this) but they got out okay. Before anyone asks, yes this was reported to officials in both areas. Kings Williams town police said that this happens quite often in the area.
  6. Hi Guys, I am FRESH into Cape Town from JHB and need to find out where the guys ride Mountainbike here? I am fairly compotent with the MTB, so I'm keen for some good distance rides on Saturdays and possibly during the week? Anyone who is keen to maybe chaparone me for a ride or two, or if there are any friendly regular groups, please let me know if I could join? Any help would be appreciated.
  7. Given the tragic lost of another fellow cyclist yesterday in Cape Town. I feel it necessary to raise a concern regarding the road works on Victoria road on both sides of the road from Campsbay to Suikerbossie and down Suiker bossie to Houtbay. This is our morning training route and in the past few weeks I've noted that this stretch is an accident waiting to happen... With road works markers forcing both cyclist and motorist on to the same piece of road without any shoulder for the cyclist. My question why would the powers that be decide that this is a opportune time to implement road works this time of year knowing the volume of cyclist that use this route for training pre Cycle Tour? I've noticed road signs on the timing of the road works (07:30 - 17:00 ) - 07:30 being the peak time for people returning from their morning ride. Is there anyway we can get Citi council or whoever is responsible for the road works to delay their times by an hour? This will allow for the peak cycling traffic to subside. Tired of all the tragic news circulating the Hub lately. Lets try stand together as a community and try make the roads safer for ourselves.

  11. Hi Guys, I am new to The Hub and have recently posted my BMC Fourstroke for sale on here (https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/115593-bmc-fourstroke-fs02-xtslx-2012/), Gumtree and OLX. I received a call yesterday from a gentleman by the name of Nelson Luthuli. He showed immediate interest (almost a bit too keen in my opinion). Stated he would match the pending offer on the bike was sending his friend Prince round that afternoon because he was situated in Vredendal. I met up with Prince outside my offices at the Waterfront and he checked out the bike and gave Nelson the go ahead. I waited at least 15 minutes before I finally got an SMS notification for a CHEQUE DEPOSIT from an ATM in Mowbray. This was followed up by another SMS from my bank informing me that that the value of any cheque's deposited would only be available once cleared. Fortunately I have experience in the financial services industry so I was not prepared to hand over the bike even though the amount was reflecting on my statement. After querying Nelson on the phone he tried to start making up stories about his branch being in Mowbray and that he made the payment in Vredendal which was a blatant lie. I ended up sending the chap packing telling him that we would have to wait until the cheque cleared. Came as no surprise that I got a call from my bank this morning informing me that the cheque had rejected. Please watch out for these guys - I have provided details below: "Nelson Luthuli" - 083 670 5715 (nelsluth@gmail.com) "Prince" - 073 925 6139

  14. Hi all, I'm doing some work with Isuzu over the next two months, part of which is creating hyperlapse videos and reviews of MTB routes so that you can check out the route online before making a mission. Here are the routes we've covered before so that you can get an idea of what I'm talking about: http://www.isuzu.co.za/experience-mountain-bike-trails Because I have limited time I need to be picky about the routes we choose to do so I'm asking all you to help me out. What are the best routes/trails in the Western Cape (we're currently geographically limited)? What routes would you most like to see a video of? Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance, Albert
  15. Hi Guys, So CycleLab is closing down on Buitengracht street - They were my go to place for a shower when i commute into town, and it was really close to my work too - so pretty bummed when i heard about them closing their doors! I do not have a gym membership and don't intend on getting one just to make use of a shower, on another note - is there even bicycle racks outside VA in the CBD? I was wondering if anyone knew of any other free-ish shower spots in the CBD, I am willing to pay a small amount if need be as well, and i would only use the place once or twice a week. Any help would be much appreciated! Otherwise i will have to go the way of the siff/wet wipes!
