  1. It's time for the Momentum 947 Cycle Challenge Ride for a Purpose & the Salvation Army will be participating to celebrate 150 years of trust! Click here to view the article
  2. Fellow Hubbers This is a plea to join my ex-School's charity bond, Friends for Life (F4L) for the 94.7 cycle challenge on 15/11. Attached is their mailer. F4L has done sterling work over the years and 94.7 was a much needed boost to the empty coffers. But they’ve only got 8 cyclists registered so far, and need 20 by 27th August to be able to register as a charity bond! Even if you're already registered, you can still convert to this - let me know if you need assistance with that. We all know how important education is to get our country firing on all cylinders, so this is the right kind of charity! I'll be missioning up from Durban, so Durbs riders, we can make a plan with logistics! Thanks so much, Tej
  3. On 8th April, 15 amateur cyclists will leave Heidelberg just south of Johannesburg, to undertake the fifth 1965Ride - a nine day, 850km epic road cycle to raise funds for education in the poverty stricken town of Queenstown, Eastern Cape. Click here to view the article
  4. Hi Everyone, as you know the Cape Argus Cycle race is this Sunday, and the BiBi Rouge Cycling Team will be using this opportunity to raise money for our two charities. To do this, the lovely men in our team have volunteered to be sponsored to ride the whole 106km race in pink Tutu's! To sponsor one or more of the men, you can go to the below link and choose your amount (you can sponsor them R1 or R2 per kilometer the ride or anything between R50 and R1000) and it will then allow you to pay with a credit card or EFT though a secure site where your details will not be shared or stored. Alternatively you can email us on cycleteam@sabrinakennedy.co.za for EFT details. These guys need motivation to look fabulous for the biggest cycle race in SA, so we appreciate any donation! http://www.sabrinakennedy.co.za/online-store.php#!/BiBi-Rouge-Charity-Cycle-Team-Sponsorship/p/47878940/category=12453602 The two charities we sponsor are the Lunchbox fund- giving Children in Townships a School lunch every day, and The South African Animal Welfare, specifically to aid dog fighting in townships. Please share this so that your friends and family can help too! THANKS!
  5. Hi Guys, I am in the process of building up a bike for a new friend. He is a teacher with limited financial resources. I lend him my bike and took him for a spin at Red Barn. He loved every moment of it. I promised myself that I will slap together a MTB for this guy to call his own. I contacted a few friends and went to my spares bin. I bought a few parts via the classifieds on the hub. I managed to get together a 26" frame, rear suspension and a number of bits and pieces. Unfortunately I am still in need of a few spares. The big items are a Shock, rear wheel and handlebar. Anybody on this forum interested in donating a few old pieces or interested in selling it to me for a steal? Please feel free to have a look at our website: http://bombcenturion.wix.com/bombcenturion or check us out on facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bomb-Centurion/350233275079058 to see what we do. We have donated a number of bikes to guys and girls. We are not in divernick's category when it comes to building and donating bikes, but we do what we love and what we can. Thanks for considering. PS Pics will obviously be posted at some stage. :-)
  6. Good day all, We run a charity group called Cancer Clowns. We ride for the sole purpose of showing people that odds can be beaten, and the cancer can also be beaten with the same attitude. Money that is collected go directly towards Cancer SA. We do not ask anything to ride for our group. we only ask that you ride in our shirt which is R364.80 incl vat. Please help us in getting more riders to join our group. Contact me if you want to join. thanks
  7. I refer to a recent post under 'help needed' where I told of a guy, Neels, in Prince Albert, who sells biscuits from door to door for a living on his bicycle. When the fork on his bike broke he was without transport and a local inhabitant kindly donated a dilapidated Giant to him. I offered to give the bike a 'make-over' and asked for help on The Hub. I delivered the bike to Neels today and he was suitably impressed with his new bike! A shout-out to Anton/Bogus One for an amazing spray-job on the bike, to Mark, for the headset, and to Lourens of Cycle Centre, for labour and spares. Great stuff, guys, thank you!
  8. THE COWS ARE CALLING! 20 September marks the 4th Edition of the Believe MTB Race at Northern Farms! This great Mountain Biking event is entirely "Non Profit". All proceeds will be donated to CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA. This fun event offers safe and secure parking at the clubhouse, where you will find clean toilets, showers and braai facilities. As well as plenty of things for the kids to do while being supervised by our trusty team of volunteers. This is your chance to take part in a super annual event that helps change the lives of others! Some updates to expect based on feedback from last years event: No major overlap at the end between 25 & 55, only overlap will occur on the Farm road before the tunnel which has plenty overtaking space, this is unavoidable. No overlapping on the single track sections; Reopening and creation of over 7kms of single track; Inclusion of overtaking zones on a lot of the single track sections. Event Details: Gates open - 6:30am 55km start - 8:00am 25km start - 8:30am Pricing: 55km - R180 25km - R140 5km - R40 1km - R20 For entries please visit www.believeproject.co.za For further information please contact Marc: 0825750100 or Charlie: 0738792151, or reply on this thread and we will attend to any queries.

  10. I am sure everyone has that bike that their child use to ride all the time but has now been outgrown and is just taking up space in the garage. Riding a bike is a truly amazing thing. It can be used as a mean of transport but also as a sporting equipment. That is why i believe that it is such a great skill to have. Riding a bike. Which is why I am trying to start a project for orphaned and under privileged children. If anyone has an old bike chilling at home that isn't being used anymore. Please could you make the kind donation and give it to use so that we can take it to someone who will use it. The project involves getting old bikes, taking them to the kids and spending the day with them teaching them how to ride a bike. If you would like to get involved in it as well you are welcome. Just contact me and let me know. Lets share the love we have for bicycles to those around us!!
  11. First 20 bikes delivered to our children! What a blessing... Thank you to all the sponsors for making this possible!
  12. Does anyone have any information on how to go about registering a charity for the 94.7 Cycle Challenge. How does the whole process work in terms of raising funds etc? I have a friend who runs a facility for orphaned kids and has a group of people who would be keen to support the cause through the 94.7.
  13. Looking for a reason to keep up the training over winter? Looking for a purpose behind all those kilometres? Ride the 94.7 for Jo'burg Child Welfare and help Jo'burg's oldest children's charity continue to support and protect our orphaned, abandoned, abused and vulnerable children. Contact communications@jhbchildwelfare.co.za for more details.
