  1. This past weekend the Cycling South Africa – Women’s Commission revealed the designs for their cycling jerseys. Two additional teams were entered into the Autumn Series races through an initiative spearheaded by the Women’s Commission and supported by Cycling South Africa.   2. The freedom to cycle was celebrated during the inaugural Freedom Day Classic, which is part of the KZN Autumn Series. Team Abantu’s Reynard Butler claimed the men’s victory in a time of 4:02:56.381 and CSA Women’s Development team rider Cherise Stander secured the women’s title in a time of 3:23:19.131 in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, today.   3. The east coast province of KwaZulu-Natal will host the 2015 KZN Autumn Series, which takes place in Pietermaritzburg, Pietermaritzburg to Margate, and in Margate on Monday 27th April, Friday 1st May and Sunday 3rd May respectively. The UCI Category 1.2 races will see some of the country’s and Africa’s top cyclists battle it out for UCI points. Teams competing include the best in South Africa and Congo along with new teams, top riders from other disciplines, remarkable women, and promising young stars. Click here to view the article
  4. South Africa’s Elite cyclists are gearing up for the start of the KZN Autumn Series – a series of three UCI Category 1.2 road cycling races – taking place in KwaZulu-Natal on 27 April (in Pietermaritzburg), 1 May (Pietermaritzburg to Margate) and 3 May (Margate). World Cycling Centre Satellite-Africa Director, Jean-Pierre van Zyl will have quite a few riders competing in the series, from the WCC MTN-Qhubeka Feeder team as well as riders from the Congo. When we learned a couple of months ago that Cycling South Africa will be putting on a series of UCI road races in KwaZulu-Natal we knew that this was important for women’s cycling in South Africa to gain valuable UCI points (international ranking points). The more UCI points that we have as a nation the more women we will be able to send to 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.   7. The City of Pietermaritzburg will play host to the fourth leg of the 2015 UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup series from 11-13 September. The high-status UCI event bolsters the city’s reputation as “Africa’s Bike City” as they expect an influx of riders, officials, spectators and income from the prestigious international event.   16. he Development Race Day Series continued the programme launched towards the end of 2014 to the remainder of the KwaZulu-Natal districts in the early part of 2015. The enthusiastic team of Adele Burger and Senzo Gumede (Giba Gorge Mountain Bike Park), Brenda Harding (Giba Gals) and Tyrone Johns (Development Officer for KwaZulu-Natal Cycling) visited Ethembeni School in KZN on Wednesday 11 February along with five bicycles and two trailer-cycles to be donated. Preparations for three brand new road cycling events are well underway in KwaZulu-Natal during one week at the end of April and early May, each of them carrying a UCI Category 1.2 rating for our Elite and U23 Men and Elite Women categories, and will form the KZN Autumn Series. It is with great pleasure that Cycling South Africa, Pedal Power Association and the Cape Town Cycle Tour Trust announce that an agreement has been reached between the three organisations in respect of the 2015 Cape Town Cycle Tour. The outcome of recent discussions between the parties is that the events of the Cape Town Lifecycle Week have been placed on the National Cycling Calendar of Cycling SA. With typically hot Lowveld conditions greeting riders on the second day of the 2015 Pennypinchers South African Road, Time Trial and Para-cycling Championships the para-cycling programme came to an end with the various road races and it was the veterans who took to the time trail course on Wednesday afternoon.
