  2. Good Morning Guys and Girls, I am looking for some advice from the suspension guru's. My current enduro/general fun bike is a 2006 Mongoose Teocalli Super. Current rear shock is a 190 x 50 Rockshox MC3.1. But she is not holding pressure. Now currently i am faced with three option, that is all going to cost about the same: 1) service the shock ( give it to Droo) 2) buy a secondhand MC3.1 ( off gumtree, still seem pristine) 3) buy a 200 x 57 Fox RP23 (listed in the classifieds) I measured the frame, and it can handle a 200mm eye to eye shock. If I am correct, the 10mm extra eye to eye length will allow for the extra 7mm of travel. Other than changing my head angle slightly, what else must I keep in mind? Current gear setup is 1x10 (Hope 32TNW with Shimano Deore 11-36 rear, SRAM X9 Type 2 derailieur) Will this extra travel affect my chain lenght/chain growth? Or can I just disregard it? Also, I am running a 140mm Marzocchi Drop off in front with no lock out. Will it be worth my while to replace the rear shock with a shock with lockout (Fox RP23)? Looking forward to your comments below
  3. The all-new Transfer seatpost features an infinitely adjustable design with the choice of internal or external cable routing, three drop options, and two lever designs. Low lever force and great modulation make it easy to regulate return speed and small height adjustments. Click here to view the article
  4. When I go into most bike shops it's seldom I will see a helmet that is not suited to the road or XC purposes. There's countless options of them out there. It's not often you see something with some rear and side support – more focused on the trail and all mountain side of things. I set out to see what I could find that is readily available in South Africa. This is Part 2 of our helmet shootout, focussing on trail lids. Click here to view the article
  5. Announced in April this year, the 32 Step-Cast (SC) fork is the lightest cross-country fork Fox has produced starting at around 1,355 grams. Designed and optimized for 100 mm travel from the outset, the 32 SC has some unique features. Click here to view the article
  6. is not a rant but rather seeking clarity. I purchased a brand new Giant Anthem X Advanced in Late 2014 and it came fully equipped out of the shop with Fox Forks and Rear Float CTD shock. Due to a hip injury, I have only really started riding in the last few weeks and have done approximately 500Kms all in. On my ride this weekend the adjuster/rebound/damper mechanism from the rear shock came completely out of the housing. Based on my limited knowledge it appears that the top grub screw has sheared as the grub screw is still where it should be but the shaft that holds the adjuster in place has come out, with a little piece of the screw. Not withstanding this i contacted Giant SA directly Dragons Sports to see what I should do as this is a very strange issue and appears to be a component failure? Dragons Sports have told me that I must contact Omnico as they are the Fox agents and as Dragons Sports they only cover the Frames and Giant Accessories? I have contacted Omnico but they have not bothered to respond, and indeed when I phoned them to verbally inquire, they promised to call back but have not done so. The dilemma I have is that I am based in Zambia and it is very difficult for me to chase around and deal with all the individual components agents/manufacturers. Essentially I am under the impression that as I bought a fully equipped Giant Bike from a certified Giant Dealer, surely the responsibility to chase the various component manufacturers lies with Giant & the Dealer and not with the customer? I guess if i bought a new BMW and a computer failed, would I as the customer be required to call Bosch about the computer or would this be the responsibility of the manufacturer. I am not sure how this would work in SA but I have limited experience of Europe and this would certainly not be how it works over there. Any advice would be appreciated.

  8. Am so disappointed in my latest suspension buy,a fox factory kashima fit 4 fork. Bought on the 26 January for some stupid amount of money after I had read a few sparkling reviews. Out the box the fork couldn't use more than 20% of its travel. So it went back and I was told that it a positive air lock had a lock and they needed to add some oil with a slightly different consistency. And the fork was returned but was no different at all. It felt wooden with no feel or confidence and an absolute lack of feedback. So it went back again. As there was Easter long wkd it understandable took 2 weeks for them to give me the new diagnosis, " I had the compression dial on the hardest setting" .Really ? that's laughable. Are they kidding me? Probably because my last ride ended with a 5 km road stint home. But I was told as I was so unhappy they have done a service free of charge and have replaced dust seals, foam rings and oil. Really why? I hadn't done more than 200 km on a brand new fork. Got the fork back and is it better ? yea maybe I suppose . Is it good ? Not by any stretch of the imagination. Is it the fit 4 an improvement ? Well mine certainly isn't in fact it borderline cr@p. Is it a pike killer or will it rival the mrp ? Not even close. I have done test runs with mates, playing with air pressure settings ,compression and rebound. Swapped bikes and set the fork for there weight etc. on the one section i rode my mates sr suntour fork. And the small bump compliance made my fox feel like a rigid. That was before I got it back the 2nd time . Now it has slightly better smallbump compliance although it still makes my arms tired , it doesn't track with any confidence and all the fork feels like it's doing is just going over the bumps with no feel or feedback. its horrible to say the least . So where to from here? I so wish I had bought a Sid or mrp loop. Instead I feel I have waisted my money. They told me that there is nothing wrong with the internals and the fork is right . If that's the case wtf? If any one else has a new fox fit 4 ,please let me know how you rate the fork or what your thoughts are on it. I am so very bitterly disappointed with the service and the product I spent so much money on. I find myself almost wanting to sell my bike. Stupid I know but am pi$$ed off and fed up. Another small gripe,I sent the fork down in the original fox box and I get it back in some make shift crappy old box. So if and when I want to sell it ?? It's just indicates that they are sloppy. I know the box gripe is anal, but I like to keep original packaging ????

  11. Starting at 1,355g, the 32 Step- Cast (SC) fork is our lightest cross- country fork ever. Optimized for 100 mm of travel, the Step-Cast lower leg design and narrow crown spacing save weight while the 32 mm upper tubes maintain FOX ride quality. Click here to view the article
  12. Hi I bought a Fox 32 Talas 120mm a while ago on the classifieds section and first thing i noticed after the first ride was this According to the seller it was serviced before i bought it.... any ideas to what can cause this ? The dust wipes still look fine and haven't perished.
  13. Baggies are all the rage these days, didn't you know? Actually, uh, no I didn't. These days? I've been wearing shorts, jeans – anything over and above underpants, really – for as long as I've been on two wheels. Lycra? No, never, not even once. When Fox sent over this pair of shorts, I was pretty surprised and a bit uneasy when I saw the detachable inner lining with chamois padding. Do these make me look like I'm wearing a nappy? Click here to view the article
  14. Does anyone know where i can get replacement inner padding for my fox flux helmet?
  15. Just had my fork and shock serviced by Andrew at Stoke Suspension in Saltriver. The yearly full rebuilt. It has to be said: Great client service. It took as long as he said it would, it cost as much as he said it would, and the fork and shock are now working better and smoother than ever before. Highly recommended.
  16. I am considering one of these two forks. Pike after adjusting to 120mm travel appears to be +/-R2000 cheaper than the Fox which is the latest 2016 release. Would like to get input from the Hubbers on these 2 forks.
  17. The Fox 34 received a complete redesign from the inside out for 2016. The result: a fairly drastic reduction in weight and a much-needed performance boost. The improved ability of the Fox 34 was long overdue as Fox's main competitors have had the edge in performance for a few years now. Click here to view the article
  18. Is there a good reason why I can't re-use existing crush washers after cleaning wipers and replacing bath oil in fox forks
  19. Hi, I live in Pretoria East and I want to service my shock (Fox Float 32). Where would be the best place and what is their pricing? Can I service it myself and where will I get the parts needed ?
  20. I'm currently on the look for a full face helmet for downhill. The only real downhill helmet I've looked at is the Specialized Dissident at Helderberg Cycles in Somerset West, but they are currently out of stock and its a bit above my price range. I've looked at a few Fox motocross helmets at some motorcycle shops(everyone pretty much only has Fox helmets) and unfortunately I haven't been able to find anything that fits, is in stock and is in my price range. So does anyone know of a store that might have stock of some helmets(downhill or MX), I need to have it by Sunday morning. I'm from Strand but I don't mind driving to Cape Town tomorrow(Saturday) to pick something up. My budget is around R1100. I'm a size XL is anyone wants to know. Cheers

  24. Hopefully by now all the smart asses have gone home and I can get a decent response. Just wanting to see if there is anyone out there that has attempted a full service (Not just the aircan) on a Fox RP2 or RP23. Saw a thread om Mtbr Forum that seemed easy enough to follow. My rebound and Pro Pedal are currently not working. All the bike is good for at the moment is a spin around the driveway with the kids. It's like riding a pogo stick. My guess is that after letting it stand for over a year after some surgery that I had, it could just need a clean and some new oil. Everything worked fine before I parked it off. I released all the air from the compression side and cycled the shock a few times hoping for a result but to no avail. I phoned for a price for a service and was quoted R1200 for a complete service. The budget is very tight at the moment so either I DIY this thing or it stands for the next few months. I have seen a cutaway section of the shock and it seems simple enogh to dissasemble. The only problem that I could forsee is the 300Psi in the Nitrogen chamber....
  25. Those of you with marzocchi components know that getting it serviced is not easy to do in South Africa. Since my folks are visiting family in Sydney I figured its a good idea to have Australian agents send my dad a seal kit for my 66 to bring home. Whilst googling I stumbled accross a few companies who manufacture compatable seal kits for all the big names in mountain bike suspension. Particularly Racing Bros, Enduro and SKF. They dont strike me as chinese specials either. I've also noticed that many bike stores in the states, uk and australia use these products regularly when servicing forks etc. Instead of the kits supplied by suspension manufacturers themselves. My question is if any SA based LBS might be using any of these. Maybe even without us knowing? or are we hellbent on original parts only? Read up long enough and you'll notice that some of these guys are using these kits exclusively for years. Many reviews mention the improvements made to seal kits over their original counterparts. There are also many user based raves about the products aswell. It is a mixed bag though. Not everyone is happy. But some people are also complaining about original parts too. So, any experience? Thoughts? http://www.enduroforkseals.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/end_on_pike.jpghttp://probikes.cl/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Enduro-Seals-01.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/ilPvcPI.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/GvGG8wl.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/dTtOHaB.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/LJ3vy2G.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/IilVCAu.jpg
