  1. My latest Trance still is using the Giant dropper with the same lever that been there since the first post. Nothing horrifically bad about it, but after riding a bike with a Fox that had the lever under the bar, when I saw that Lyne Components had one that was modded to fit the Giant Dropper, I picked one up. Here's the lever I've faithfully been using on a Trance or three over the years (well, each had it's own one) across the different versions of the Giant droppers they have fitted, right to my current Trance Advance with the 150mm dropper. Here they are side by side: And here is the little 3D printed piece to accommodate the way that Giant cable needs to be tightened. Dayle from Lyne told me this when I collected the lever (damn, it was good service, I emailed as I was in the area and 30min later was collecting!)... This was a high-speed "mod" slash "upgrade" to my bike, and only needed these two tools: So, now to find the perfect spot to put the lever on the bar, and lets say the first issue (well, only issue really) popped up. Fitting to the left of the brake lever meant that it was just too far "left" if that makes sense. And at the "perfect spot" it was unable to engage because it hit into the clamp for my brakes. So after a little bit of left and right, settled on what worked best for me: Then because the Giant Dropper lever had that unsightly, shitty long tube thing out of it for the adjuster, there was plenty of cable to pull through the lever's tightening mechanism. I first backed on 1 to 2mm of spacing on the adjuster barrel just incase I went ape-**** and over tightened the cable. Then the problem is that there is no real way to get the cable cutters to get any closer to this finger-stabbing-leftover: So, although I'm no boer, I made a plan. Whilst the plan was not elegant, the solution was. haha. I simply pressed the cable into the hole with an allen key and now it looks great. Totally invisible whilst it's all mashed up and frayed like Zuma's brain. And here we go! Lever fitted. Literally, even with taking pics, this was a 10min operation. VERDICT? Money well spent, and the leverage is a lot more than the Giant one, so the action is really soft with hardly any force required to press / operate the dropper. It would be great if it could sit 8mm or so more to the left (and not contact the brake lever clamp), but It's just so much better than the standard one. Best 200 bucks and 10min spent on the bike in years. EDIT TO ADD: took a ride or two to get used to, but now wonder how I ever pressed the lever without such a light action and having to move my thumb up with the old one.

  4. Hi Hubbers I've been reading topics for a while and have yet to post something but I think I've come across something that needs your help. I am looking at new hubs for a 2015 Giant Trance 27.5 2. I bought a set of WTB KOM i23 rims and am looking to build a nice trail wheelset. Some info that I think is relevant: Weight: 78kg Riding style: Trail, aggressive XC and marathon I noticed that The Rapidé Ultralight Hubs are incredibly competitively priced and I am quite interested in a set. Obviously Hope/Chris King are tried and trusted but I am quite keen on supporting lical particularly if it is a bargain and good quality. Does anyone have any experience with Rapidé hubs?

When Dragon Sports offered me a Trance to test I obviously jumped at the opportunity. But two days before I was due to pick up the bike, I was told that the Trance was unavailable.   6. Hi there, Model Fork: Fox 32 Float Performance w/ 15thru-axle, overdrive steerer, 140mm travel. (I realize this is not a high grade fork and for a 32 at 140mm its not as good as say a 32 at 100mm) Wheels and Tyres: Onza Ibex 2.25 and Giant stock S XC-2 Tyre Pressure front 22/23psi and rear 26psi (up or down a few depending) Fork Pressure: recommended around 75 (set to sag) currently at 95 (reason why below) and shock around 155. Current weight 77.5kg 6 turns from the right (rebound) Running the stock 75mm stem with 760mm bars and one large spacer above. I have been riding for just over a year so Singletrack technique always needs improving. Problem i'm having is down a long section of ST the bike handles great with pro pedal on both fork and shock. Feeling firm but controlled in the front. Body position seems good, elbows bent, weight not too far back and keeping pressure on the front wheel. Switchbacks downhill and cornering good at a decent speed. Keep in mind I have upped the fork pressure to 95 (too high surely?) With that I end a ride with around 3cm or so of space above my spacer no big drops or anything. When I put the fork and shock into fully open here is the problem: I feel way less in control of the front end, the shock compresses pretty deep just leaning on it even at 95 psi and round switchbacks and corners it almost dives into its travel. Feeling sketchy compared to half locked (pro pedal) mode. I have come off the front a few times its dived so much into steep stuff. The bike is a 2016 model and pretty new only a few months 6/7 old. No service to the fork or shock yet. I thought of ordering a volume spacer or two and playing around with that? As I would like to setup the fork based on sag rather than over filling it to 95psi. Otherwise could it just be i'm putting to much weight on the front end around corners? or bad technique? Appreciate the feedback? Thought i'd ask here before taking it in and asking the shop.   7. So, you're in Oz and thinking of buying a new trail/enduro/Dh rig with lekker wide bars? Think again. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is taking you on a trip to back in time to 1999 where your new bike will be fitted with a 700mm (max) wide bar.   8. I saw a Giant xtc Aluxx SL 26er size Large for sale in Wynberg yesterday. It's a white frame with red accents (2012?) - couldn't get a serial number. Blue Chris Willemse sticker on the chain stay; one white and red Giant bottle holder, one black holder. Back tyre is well worn. Why am I suspicious? 1. It still has trail dirt on it - even if I was selling to a pawn shop I'd wash my bike. 2. There is an inner tube taped to the seat post.

  10. Hi there - quite new to the addictive MTB sport and looking at a decent entry level bike for around 5-6k. I have seen some decent well specced Titan Sports, Giant Revels and Axis A60's, but having difficulty on choosing. Is there a sort of ranking sheet i can refer to, lol? I am about 1.74m , weighing around 90kgs and looking for something smooth, strong and fast. I dont intend becoming an avid trail rider, but possibly looking at the light trails now and then. will propably do more Beach, recreational pavement riding. in addition, what do you reckon is my frame size? i would think medium based on the chart sizing guides. What are your thoughts?
  11. Hi guys. I need some advice. I use to ride Giant Trance 26er. Changed to Specialised hardtail 29er. Want to go back to dual suspension and im torn between the Giant and the Epic, both allu not carbon. Had the Epic for the weekend to demo. Amazing ride and handling. Quite fast. Only been able to demo ride the Giant in the car park so not a great comparison. Is the giant quite stiff on med or full on the back shock? For nice steady climbing, seated on standing? Any advice? The giant is available on a good deal for R30k. The Epic is about R7k more. Thanks Nicol

Hi all, I'm currently looking at buying a new entry level dual suspension MTB and would appreciate some advice on which would be best, or if there are any other suggestions that you would recommend.   13. Hey guys I would appreciate some advice on my bike and what gear you guys would invest in order to improve it abit. So I started cycling in 2014 and got the Giant Propel Advanced with the basic 105 Groupset. Now 2 years and one sub 3 at the Argus later, I am looking to upgrade it!!! I just took advantage of the Darkhorse Carbon clinchers 38mm from onedayonly and am planning to change my groupset next. However I know that I am in for about 25k if I want the Ultegra Di2 (heard the Dura ace Di2 is not that much better than it justifies the big increase in price, but please correct me if I am mistaken). My LBS told me when I bought the bike in August 2014 that the frame is good and can easily be kept still. My questions are now: 1. What groupset would you recommend?(I know that at that price tag all higher end groupsets are decent and its more about personal preference) 2. Would you even invest that much in a groupset or maybe sell the bike instead and put that with the 20-25k together to get an upgraded bike? And if so, what bike? If you have any other advice, I would appreciate that too. Thanks alot!!

  15. I am looking at buying a new road bike to start off with. The guy at the bike shop I visited advised me that in terms of value for money, nothing will beat the Silverback Strela (the 2016 model looks spectacular I must say). Not even Giant or Merida will be as good according to him. Does anyone have experience with this bike and is it worth getting? It come with full Shimano equip, but just an 8-speed. Is this good enough to start off with?

Hi Guys, We are working on a new stem and we may be able to make it compatible with standard steerers and Giant's Overdrive 2 1 1/4" system as we have had a number of people asking about Overdrive 2 stems. The stems would be XC/Trail/road compatible and of a high quality alloy, either 2014 or 7050 like our ControlColumn stems and of a similar price (around R350) Would anyone be interested? What lengths would you like? Let me know.

  18. Which Bike is a good buy for my Daugter that is Turning 8 in August. Was looking at the Momsen JR20. Looks like decent bike and does not seem to heavy. Also seen there is Titan , Avalanche etc. Any advice would be appreciated as well as best place to buy from. I am in Hillcrest, KZN

  21. Hey Guys Gone over the whole Trance/Anthem thing way too many times. Ride on local trails around Southern Suburbs, Cape Town. Table Mountain and hopefully if Tokai opens this year there too. I'm still learning but like riding single track, more aggressive time of style and like speed. Would like to start riding out near Stellenbosch and other trails in the Western Cape. Riding a hardtail 1999 old school Trek at the moment and looking at either the Trance 27.5 2 or the Anthem 27.5 SX. The price of both seems to be in the same bracket. I'm pretty convinced the Trance is what I want. Have not test ridden either but will in the near future. My Question: The type of trails in the Southern Suburbs, Western Cape and surroundings from what i have ridden to the clips I watch on Youtube seem to be more XC type flowing single track, jeep tracks, small jumps if any. Would the Anthem not be more suited to the trails around here than the Trance? I don't race but would like to do some of the more chilled out ones in future for fun. Want to do the Argus but will buy a cheaper road bike for that when the time comes. Besides a short ride to the gym or shops this bike will be used mostly off-road on trails. Excited to learn how to wheelie, manual, jump a bit, small drop off's, bunny hop those things in riding I find more exciting then shooting up a hill to beat a record. Saying that I don't like a massive heavy bike that feels like a tank on the up's either but from what I have read the Trance is good up hill too. Any feedback based on the local trails. Trying not to convince myself I need more bike than I do. I'm one that watches a few Redbull Rampage clips and ends up riding a DH bike to gym on road haha Thanks guys

  23. is not a rant but rather seeking clarity. I purchased a brand new Giant Anthem X Advanced in Late 2014 and it came fully equipped out of the shop with Fox Forks and Rear Float CTD shock. Due to a hip injury, I have only really started riding in the last few weeks and have done approximately 500Kms all in. On my ride this weekend the adjuster/rebound/damper mechanism from the rear shock came completely out of the housing. Based on my limited knowledge it appears that the top grub screw has sheared as the grub screw is still where it should be but the shaft that holds the adjuster in place has come out, with a little piece of the screw. Not withstanding this i contacted Giant SA directly Dragons Sports to see what I should do as this is a very strange issue and appears to be a component failure? Dragons Sports have told me that I must contact Omnico as they are the Fox agents and as Dragons Sports they only cover the Frames and Giant Accessories? I have contacted Omnico but they have not bothered to respond, and indeed when I phoned them to verbally inquire, they promised to call back but have not done so. The dilemma I have is that I am based in Zambia and it is very difficult for me to chase around and deal with all the individual components agents/manufacturers. Essentially I am under the impression that as I bought a fully equipped Giant Bike from a certified Giant Dealer, surely the responsibility to chase the various component manufacturers lies with Giant & the Dealer and not with the customer? I guess if i bought a new BMW and a computer failed, would I as the customer be required to call Bosch about the computer or would this be the responsibility of the manufacturer. I am not sure how this would work in SA but I have limited experience of Europe and this would certainly not be how it works over there. Any advice would be appreciated.
