  1. Hi All, Did my intro at the introduction section I'm a complete beginner to cycling and am looking to get a MTB to start off with. I am 1.78m tall and am doing this to get into shape and have some fun on the off road trails. Might possibly just use it also as a road bicycle just to get the fitness in during the week. Budget at the moment is R3000 Any advice on the bike to look at?
  2. Hi guys, using a Polar V650 bike monitor. Today after 95km into a ride it went crazy and all of a sudden added an hour to the duration, as well as added 30km to the distance!! Saved the session and started a new one and figured I'd edit out the last minute and just join the GPX files. Now my monitor has synced both to iPhone, but only the second session to Flowsync. Has anybody experienced this? Is there any way to access the training files on a V650 without flowsync? Want to bliksem it into a million pieces!!
  3. Good Day Everyone, I've been keen to try out mountain biking for the past year and haven't really made much of an effort to get into it. I've now decided that I'd like to buy a decent (within budget) mountain bike that will allow me to experience this sport which I'd love to get involved in. My thoughts are to purchase a second hand bike so I can introduce myself with the sport, get familiar with what is needed, what I prefer etc. when it comes to bikes and equipment before purchasing my new ride. I have done some reading as to what goes into choosing a bike, even with this knowledge, I'm finding it difficult to know when a second hand mountain bike is reasonable priced or not. I've found a Silverback Saturn with the following specs given: Silverback Saturn 19"(large frame) 26" Double wall Alloy rims CST Copperhead tyres Shimano hydraulic disc brakes Removable gel seat cover Rebound adjust suntour fork Double butted 6061 aluminium frameSo my question is, what would be a reasonable price for such bike? The bike looks to be in good condition as far as my knowledge allows. Note: I was looking at a cheaper Ralleigh (29 inch), which didn't look too bad, but have a weird feeling that I'd get what I'm paying for. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, especially what you think the Silverback would be worth.
  4. I've always been a mountain biker, and that is easy as bikes are sized like underpants in S, M, L etc. But after hurting like a little bitch on the Argus this year I am going to buy a secondhand road bike for next year and also do some milage over the festive season. BUT I have no idea what sizing I need, it's all in cm and whilst I am sure I can drop the seat or raise it etc, I'd prefer to get as close to possible to the "right" size. I am 1,92m tall and from the floor to my crotch is 900mm. I prefer not being stretched out too much, (doubt will really use the drop bar part except in crazy descents. Any advice is appreciated.
  5. Hi Guys I recently bought a set of wheels from a guy who advertised them on the HUB. Not being a professional wheel builder I tried to asses the wheels for anything strange on them after I met the seller with the wheels. After some inspection I noticed a small dent on the rear wheel, I made it clear to the seller and he looked me in the eye saying that it has no effect on the wheel or the tubeless ability of it. Taking his word for it (*stupid of me I know*) I bought the wheels and fitted them to my bike, not long into my 1st ride I noticed a bump coming from the back, I then went off the trail and onto some smooth tar road, here the bump was very noticeable. After have the back wheel assessed by two LBS's in my area, It comes down to a bust rear wheel due to a massive flat-spot on it. The seller however refuses to accept that he sold me a busted wheel-set, and refund me or replace the rear wheel. And says I can take him to court if I want my money back. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
  6. Good day all. i please need some help in deriving a price on my bike i would like to sell ? it has full SRAM XO components size medium 26er LOOK excellent condition bought it in 2014 ? any ballpark numbers would be very useful thanks
  7. Hello, I am wondering on getting a dropper post for my Swift Dvore hardtail. Is it worth getting one just to descent a bit easier or won't it improve riding that much? My bikes seatpost size is 27.2mm diameter. Do you get post that will fit it? Thanks.
  8. Today we got stuck about 6-7km from the trail head at Northern Farm when my son's rear axle broke rendering his bike un-rideable. We walked a bit carrying his bike but thought there was no way we would walk all the way back. We googled the farm number and could only find a cell phone number for Bongani Sithole. We called him and told him we were stuck. He was very friendly and immediately offered to bring his tractor and trailer to where we were (which happened to be "Road to nowhere"). He knew exactly where that was and came to our rescue! Thank you Bongani, you were my hero of the day! I hope you get promoted soon! We gave him a nice gratuity! Bongani's rig bringing us home! Bongani and my son
  9. Hi everyone, I've been cycling for a year and a half on my Trek X caliber7 and have outgrown it... I'm looking for a new (but reasonably priced) bike that has either a large or XL frame. The bike on the top of my list is a Silverback Sprada 2 ( that is a dual sus ) So the question is, should I stay with a hardtail or go for a dual sus???
  10. Hi, I'm looking to purchase the Raleigh Tri6000 with 105 group set. Not sure of the year of the bike but the price is good. Any advice on if this is a decent intermediate bike. Any help would be massively appreciated. Regards
  11. hi! i found a post about this, but from 2009... desperately need advice. the Thule roofrack on the back of a bakkie, is it a custom job, and where can it be done? is it a schlep to remove and is it stabe enough? Thanks
  12. My friend wants to sell me her 2011 Specialized Elite bike with Tiagra(back derailleur) /Sora components. She's asking R5500. Is that reasonable?
  13. Hello Hubbers, I need some help please. I bought a second-hand Thule ClipOn 9104 a couple days ago to attach to the back of my Toyota Auris (2010 or 2011 model I think). Although it says on the Thule website that the bike rack should be compatible with my car, I’ve been having trouble with getting it to fit properly. Basically, the rear spoiler (stock part) is being pulled down a centimetre or two by the 2 metal hooks at the top when I lower the handles to tighten the rack. I’m worried that the carrier will damage the spoiler or even snap it off completely. I’ve tried bending the hooks as much as possible but that hasn’t helped. Has anyone else had problems with this? If so, has it damaged your car or have you done anything to fix it? I would even consider taking the rear spoiler off as a last resort (if that’s even possible!). Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading. These are the hooks I'm referring to:
  14. Hi there Hubbers! I've recently bought myself a Garmin Edge 810 with Heart Rate Monitor ect. After doing some research I see that to determine your Max Heart rate you must use the formula 220 - minus age? So that means my Max Heart Rate is 190. I've done a few rides where I go to 195bpm, which means the calculations is incorrect on the Garmin. I went to the Garmin Connect website where you can fill in your Heart Rate Zones, but I'm not sure how accurate this is and if I put in the correct BPM at the correct zone. I want to start a new training plan with heart rate zones but can figure out which ones is correct? Does my explanation make any sense? Your help will be highly appreciated. P.S - I'm a afrikaans boytjie so sorry for the bad english!
  15. please help me anyone to rent bicycle bag or box for weekend to collect bag and return on 8th,willing to pay deposit. stefan 0714430741
  16. Looking at making a big upgrade for my bike and need some advice on my options; A cannondale supersix evo 105, Fondriest TF3 or TF2 with 105 I also don't know if the difference between the TF2 and TF3 is worth it, can anyone help please!
  17. Hi Guys, I am in the process of building up a bike for a new friend. He is a teacher with limited financial resources. I lend him my bike and took him for a spin at Red Barn. He loved every moment of it. I promised myself that I will slap together a MTB for this guy to call his own. I contacted a few friends and went to my spares bin. I bought a few parts via the classifieds on the hub. I managed to get together a 26" frame, rear suspension and a number of bits and pieces. Unfortunately I am still in need of a few spares. The big items are a Shock, rear wheel and handlebar. Anybody on this forum interested in donating a few old pieces or interested in selling it to me for a steal? Please feel free to have a look at our website: http://bombcenturion.wix.com/bombcenturion or check us out on facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bomb-Centurion/350233275079058 to see what we do. We have donated a number of bikes to guys and girls. We are not in divernick's category when it comes to building and donating bikes, but we do what we love and what we can. Thanks for considering. PS Pics will obviously be posted at some stage. :-)
  18. Hey guys, I bought not long ago an off-road bike (Titan) and from day one I got my noisy disk brakes ( Tektro ) I sent it 3 times to the shop and every time they were saying that "nothing wrong with the bike...now is fixed" and after the first km. of riding starts again. It is not the cheapest bike though. Ten grand I think is a good amount of money for which you have to get a proper machine. Now, I can't spend more time and petrol to deal with "mechanics", so I am trying to get an advise from someone from the forum before I go and spend money on new brake pads without knowing what actually would've worked best. I will appreciate your help. Thanks.
  19. To the two cyclists who stopped to help my wife after a nasty crash near the end of the Modders green route this morning around 11, our gratitude and thanks. The feeling of community and willingness to help is one of the things we enjoy most about mountain biking. Thanks also to everyone who came past and checked whether we were OK. A thorough checkup showed no damage other than a serious shiner. Thanks again!
  20. Please give me some advice. I'm looking to spend about R12000 on a new bike. I found one that I really like. The downside is that it is not ladies specific, but I've been riding non-ladies specific bike up to date without an issue. I don't want anything with a groupset lower than 105, which is what I currently have. This is what I found: Ghost 2013 Ultegra6700 - 10 speed Shimano wheelset Weight 8.5kg Scwalbe Ultremo Tyres Carbon Fork , alu frame.
  21. Good day All, Well I hope you guys have a blessed 2012. I have decided that I want to take up triathlon up as a sport. I've been very fascinated with it for years now. So if you guys can give me any tips on taking the 3 discipline sport on, I will really appreciate it. Have a good 2012
