  1. Hi, looking at the Merida 29" 2015 FS Big Ninety Nine XT carbon, can get it for R29k. Any reviews on the bike? I am deciding between the Merida and the Scott Spark 910, both priced the same with same specs, only diff is the Merida is carbon. I am not too familiar with the Merida brand.
  2. Hi, I'm thinking of getting more into mountain biking and I'm looking for a decent entry level bike. I've found three options that look like they're value for money, but to be honest I have very little idea. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The three I've found are: Merida Big 9 20MD - R5,000 Silverback Spectra Sport- R5,600 Momsen AL129 (2014)- R6,000 Which of the three would you recommend? Thanks in advance
  3. Hi there, I'm in the processs of buying a Merida Ninety-Nine 9.600 Full Suspension bike, but due to new models coming out end of August all stock seems to be exhausted. Not only on Merida but various other makes. I have managed to find one of the last ones available at R 15k from a reputable dealer, they normally go for almost R 25k. So really a good deal. Only problem, its a XL and based on my height of 1.82m and inside leg of 86cm I should buy a L according to the guide. What potential issues would I have if I went to the XL? It might not feel to bad when testing, but over time....., Stage races, etc? Regards, Johan
  4. I have a friend that wanted to try out MTB and he bought himself one of these in Jan. (large) He rode the bike 3 times and he decided its not for him. He paid more or less 17k for the bike. What can he expect to ask for the bike to sell it now? (anyone interested?)
  5. Hi all, I hope this is in the right forum. I am planning on giving my wife my Scott Aspect 610 bike and getting the Merida big 7 xt carbon 2014 mountain bike. It's a 650b and I can get it for about R20k new which is my max budget. What are your opinions on this bike and are there any other bikes I could consider? Thank you.

  7. Hi All. Just want to find out who are the Merida agents in Durban. Looking for Scultura 400 road bike for my cousin who wants to start cycling. Leighs cycles in Pavillion & Gateway are out of stock, would need a 54cm. I am new to Durban to not sure who else carries the brand. Anywhere in central, north or south will do. Thanks
  8. Better is the enemy of good: This was the motto that MERIDA’s head of R&D Jürgen Falke and his team were following when developing the fourth generation of the SCULTURA road bike platform. Being the lightest frame in MERIDA’s line-up, this frame has always been built to conquer long, steep climbs. But as extensive wind tunnel testing by German magazine Tour showed, the SCULTURA was not a top contender in terms of aerodynamics. Thus there was a clear objective for the new frame: It had to be yet a bit lighter, but more importantly it had to become more aerodynamic. Another goal was to increase the vertical compliance of the rear triangle. Click here to view the article

The Merida Big 9 Carbon XT or the Giant XTC. i have heard a lot about the standard wheel of the Merida been "slow" and an upgrade on those would be a good start. Any alternate choices to the above 2 bikes would also be greatly appreciated!! thanks.

  16. Hi Guys I'm new to the forum and would like to know if you will be able to help me... Currently I ride a Silverback Sola 4 mountain bike and have enjoy the bike a lot but have decided for race purposes I should get a road bike. I have been looking at buying a new road bike and have been looking at the Silverback Space 1 or the Merida Scultura 4000 both of which are in a similar price bracket and both are full carbon road bikes. The Silverback groupset is Ultegra where as the Merida is only a 105 group set. How huge is the difference between these 2? Also want to inquire on the after sales support on the 2 companies? from what i have read (haven't need to contact Silverback about my current bike) Silverbacks after sales support is amazing. thanks for the help.

  24. Hi Whats your thoughts on the Merida Big Nine XT Edition?
  25. Hey all! So I have this idea in my head, and I would kinda like to know what you all think. Why? Because I want to start a project and sell it when it is finished! I am currently on a Merida Big Nine Team. The 2012 model. I am yet to pick up my new 2015 Big Nine Team Frame. So I had a thought. Rather than just rebuild the bike as is with the old components, I want to invest a little in this and make a project out of it. My idea: - I was thinking of doing a custom paint job on the crankset (still with matching black/green/white colourscheme), just to add in a bit of freshness. - I want to rebuild the wheels and incorporate some green & silver nipples and about 6 green spokes paired with white Pillar Spokes laced to Dt Swiss 240s hubs and I completely blacked the scandium rims by removing the stickers,. - Have the DT Swiss XM100 carbon fork changed from 100mm travel to 80mm of travel with the idea of some white black and green paintjob for the fork lowers maybe? - Get a X01 groupset fitted on the bike, in contrast with the 1x10 XX drivetrain that is currently fitted. - I want to give special attention to the small stuff, which will make this bike one of a kind. Maybe with some custom gold Avid Matchmakers and gold bolts all round? If you like the idea of going all Titanium bolts, let me know! - Added features like a built in powermeter/disc preference etc can be talked about! The new frame is going to be fitted with a carbon ProCraft cockpit allround, and some Spez tyres and Supacaz grips! My goal with this bike is to make it the only one of it's kind in SA. Obviously I will give some thought to the weight factor, and not turn this bike into a tractor. I had a thought of throwing some carbon wheels onto those white & green spokes and DT hubs, but would anybody be interested in buying this bike with some carbon hoops? If so, it will definitely be new Roval Rims with a custom paint job I think. The penultimate thing I think would be is to fit this bike with an XTR Di2 groupset hey? Would anyone buy this bike if it fell somewhere in the 45-55k price range? It's going to be a specTACULAR ride Let me know! Maybe I can change my idea's to fit the buyers' choices like some enve carbon hoops or a different cockpit or anything really! Thanks!
