Greetings All I recently sold my old MTB and after much research had pretty much settled on getting the 2015 Merida Big Nine XT Edition: http://www.hotspotcycles.co.za/product/2015-merida-big-nine-xt/ Now, for R2.5k more, I can get the 2014 GT Zaskar LE 9R Expert: http://www.gtbicycles.com/usa_en/2014/bikes/mountain/xc/2014-zaskar-le-9r-expert I like the look and feel of both bikes, but it looks like the GT has a better fork and wheels. Not a competitive rider, so wondering if the extra R2.5k is worth it?

I am currently looking at getting new bike . Can someone advise why the scott is +-K5 more than the merida? Is the Scott offering something more that I am missing? Thanks

Looking to buy a decent bike around R12000 Can get both these bikes for under R12000 Any opinions on which one you would prefer or are the better one. Both looks more or less specced the same but I dont know finer details like wheels etc. Tips or advice thanx

I have narrowed down my search for a road bike to 2 bikes, one is a 2014 merida scultura carbon frame, 10 speed ultegra gearshifters at R15000 and the second one is a 2015 Merida aluminium frame, 105 gearshifters, 11speed R14000. Which one would you advise me to buy? I have been riding a mountain bike for 6months and never rode a road bike before.

On my way to work this morning I spotted a guy riding a black Merida road bike with yellow decals and yellow bar tape. Now I know people will get upset and say maybe he is a weekend warrior, who uses his bike to commute but sneakers riding on clipless pedals and lack of a helmet looks suspicious to me. If you are missing such a bike he was riding from main road Lakeside up Steenberg rd towards Weslake Virgin active. I couldn't get a photo but bike looked similar to this frame but with flouro yellow / green bar tape:

Hi Guys and Gals. I have looked at a lot of bikes, but can't seem to decide between these two bikes. The Merida is an all xt bike with the exception of the brakes. The Scott will be upgraded to full xt if I buy it, and I do like the fox shock on that. It will be about R1700 more for the Scott. I am really leaning towards this one, but want to know if you think that this bike is worth the extra amount of money? Thanks in advance for your input.

I was riding from the finish to Fourways mall after 94.7 Cycle Challenge and I spotted a Guy riding a racing bike, not in Lycra, with the saddle too high for him swerving around. I chased him down and as I caught him, he stoped. I first took a pics of him and the bike. I asked him if it was his bike, he replied it was his brothers. I told him I did not believe him and tried to take the bike from him. He got aggressive with me, so I backed off. He then headed in to a construction site. I felt a bit useless, and was really hoping for some back up from the people sitting in the bumper to bumper traffic, but non came :-( I'm kicking my self for not taking a pic of the racetec chip which would have enabled me to trace down the owner, but my brain was not working so well after pushing hard in the race. Please can anyone identify the model of the bike so that I can put it in the topic title.

Scott Speedster 20 vs Merida Scultura 400 I am busy buying a road bike. my 2 options are a Scott Speedster 20 (2015) or a Merida Scultura 400. Both are 105. What is the best buy?

This is my first post on The Hub..so hello everyone I am in the process of shopping for a new 29" hardtail in the 15-20k price range. Based on searches in the forums, web reviews and spec-by-spec comparisons I've narrowed down my options to the following: 2014 Merida Big.Nine 1500 2015 Momsen AL429 2014 Momsen AL529 The Al529 seems to no longer be an option as most retailers I've spoken to are unable to order 2014 momsens. (probably due to the 2015 range coming in next week) So it's down to the Al429 and the Big nine 1500. Either one will cost roughly R18,000. I am struggling to decide between the specs. The Merida ships with a mid to top range fox fork (Fox 32 Float 29 Evo 100) whereas the Momsen ships with an entry-level Rockshox fork (30 gold) However the momsen does have an XT rear derailleur as well as Stan's ZTR rapid rims which I have heard are quite good. I've also read many positive reviews and a generally favourable sentiment amongst Hub users for Momsen bikes. (not to mention that they are a local brand) So which one would you recommend? I am not too clued up on compontents and their various pros and cons. Basically what I am looking for is a decent, value for money hardtail that can take a beating. Alternative brand/bike suggestions are also welcome I appreciate your feedback!

On my way to work this morning. spotted a guy riding the above mentioned bike on 'the village road' near lynwood bridge pretoria. I was unable to stop and get a picture but he stopped at a shop and so figure he frequents that spot. I don't want to be given k@k for posting this.but the rider definitely didn't look right. hope this helps someone in potentially getting back there bike. PM me for more details

Looking at a merida big 9 second hand - any views on these please? its really just for general riding, road and off road - been about 20 years since i rode so am kinda out of the trends just a tad either the merida above or a new Giant Revel 29er ???? advice appreciated. thanks clive

PLEASE SHARE WITH ANYONE YOU KNOW THAT USES TOKAI LOWER FOREST REGULARLY!! A friend borrowed my mountian bike yesterday - Friday 13th - late afternoon & when packing the bike back in the car she left my front wheel behind!! It is a 26' Merida front wheel looking exactly like this pic of the back one. I am REALLY hoping that a good soul found it & took it home to try & find the owner!! Can anyone offer guidance on how to open the crank on the HFS 3000 D. I am up in Africa - so a bike shop is not an option. Manual says right hand side is a left hand thread - but I cannot get the outer casing to budge. is there a special tool / trick to this - I have owned the bike since new and don't recall its ever been opened, so it could be seized - however I have hit it with a punch and it made no difference. Attached photo is the culprit in question. Any help appreciated

I'm a lady rider looking to upgrade from my 26" Raleigh Nomad to something better as I ride a lot more now. I've seen a new 2014 Merida Juliet 500W, and a second hand 2013 Merida Matts Lite XT-edition both within my budget. I'm looking to spend max R13K on a hardtail, 26er or 650B. I'm only 154cm so would like something relatively light and compact (15" frame). I do a lot of single track riding. Any advice on whether I should go new or secondhand, and if there are other models I should consider would be appreciated.
