  1. Where can i get hold of this frame ??? people say it's going for <3K, seems like the most viable choice for me... Assembling my own bike, on a budget of around15k i'm thinking of: Shimano SLX 670Groupset R6400+- Shimano XTR disc rotor SM-RT98 CL 160mm for the rear wheel R550 standard rotor for the front wheel +-R100 standard wheelset +tyres 2500+- (might be able to use my brother's old set) standard shocks R2000+- Xon carbon bar R300 Seatpost/seat/stem/etc R1000+- from what i've looked at so far this frame seems to be one of the better value for money frames with above entry level specs.
  2. Hi Guys and Girls Bent the rear derailleur hanger on my Momsen 529. Could anyone please suggest a LBS that stock Momsen bikes/parts in the George or Knysna area? Regards
  3. I am looking to build current HT parts over on dualie. I'm reasonably convinced that I am going to go for a Anthem X 29 frameset, having listened to some people and read some reviews, etc. Don't think there's much else that can match up or are available in framesets. Spez, Rocky, etc all seem to have a top-of-the-line-carbon-framset as their only frameset option. Other options are Momsen DL and I presume Scott will be an option as well. Much as I'd love one, I am pretty sure Dale frames will be a bit steep and then you'll very likely feel obliged to add a lefty as well. Aware of Booth and BSR, but... not entirely comfortable with what may be backup/support/warrantee issues should it be required. Did I miss an option you guys are aware of? (Unfortunately SC is not quite an option... ) Have I missed something important? Should I look harder at something like Scott? Opinions?
  4. jeez I'm starting to feel like a momsen rep lol Saw this on Facebook, good deal but only 10 available
  5. Momsen coming out with thudbuster seatpost
  6. I think we could all benefit from a buyers guide for the SS bikes. Name and link and maybe a bit of a personal review only please if a local Supplier, contact details if no online page or details available Rules of the thread: 1. no chit chat - this should be a simple guide for all, looking for either a new SS, or a upgrade to a current SS not a 20 page discussion on why bike X is better than Y 2. details of bike with pricing..doesnt help suppling a website, if you cannot by directly from them..( I hate seening awesome looking bikes... then having to spend 6 years finding a dealer to buy from) On-one inbred http://www.on-one.co.uk/ http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/ZXOOIN29SS/on_one_inbred_29er_frame_bundle Monsen STR-29 http://www.momsenbikes.com http://www.momsenbikes.com/frames.cfm?frame=STR29
  7. I need some help in a decision, haven't been riding for a few years and want to get back on a bike. Not as hectic as before, just a few fun Saturday sessions and occasional holiday sessions with the family. So I am in two minds and it fluctuates constantly....as soon as I make a choice a few hours later I second guess it and go with the other option! so I will give a few details and hopefully all the clever people can make me stick to one choice!! my details : height : 1.90m weight : 105kg -> hopefully getting it down again with riding :-) inseam : cant remember ...but my build is not funny like long torso or long legs, lets call it avg. my seat height BB -> Top of saddle was usually 87-90cm if that helps. type of riding having done the 5-6 hour Saturday and Sunday slogs, I am not keen on that. So no road riding due to traffic dangers and not liking to ride in roadie groups. So I want to do Mountain biking mostly. It will be on weekends, maybe a weekday here and there as I actually drive past groenkloof to go to work ! so who knows. I will mostly go to bike park places like van Gaalen, Red Barn, GroenKloof, Northen Farms if I ride. Like the safety aspect as I will be alone or with my wife. So the bike should probably be "fun" as well as capable. Will probably do 2 hour rides maybe 3 hours at a time. No Racing in the foreseeable future. budget I would say 8k-11k max. Options So most of you probably know this is going one way........... :-) the 26er vs 29er debate...so humour me , and look at the info above versus choices below and tell me what option will be better 1) There currently some awesome deals on 26" full suspension bikes. I can get anything from a Giant Anthem, Specialized Epic Comp to a Yeti ASR5 close to my budget. These bike have good to great components (XT etc) and usually have pretty decent wheels (Crossmax). They are also pretty light for Full Suspension (sub 12kg). It is the most logical choice for fun and value for money. Only issue is , I have never felt that in control on any of my MTB's (various makes and sizes) . I always had this feeling of going over the handlebars in technical sections. It might have been my setup, lack of skill or way to much speed due to misplaced trust on my skill! But it has pointed me to the 29er bible of bigger buy -> bigger wheel mantra.....Honestly I think the 29er thing is a bit over hyped , in the end you still need to peddle the bike, and no wheel will change that. But just maybe........................it is the answer to all life's questions... ;-) 2) So...onto the 29ers, in my budget I can get a entry to mid level 29er hard tail. I can get a Momen 329 for 8k new, 2013 spec. Also looked at the Titan Comp bike for 9300 odd, momsen 329 , 2014 spec for 10k. Bikes seem nice, components is a bit low level, but might be sufficient for the limited time I will put on them. For some reason I just think the bigger wheeled bike will fit my frame and length better, but it might also be the Achilles heel......I am not sure if these bike's wheel sets can handle my weight? no use going 29er and me folding a wheel on the first out the saddle climb and bit of pressure I put on the wheels.......also they are hard tail.....still think FS will kick any HT on a bit of ruff stuff! they are heavy ...12.5kg + , so no gains on weight versus the 26er FS. So I guess it comes down to getting a 30-50k bike at a real Steal price.....or buying into the hype and getting an semi-entry level bike 29er and then preaching to all about the awesome rollover ability ...............It is just very confusing....as soon as I choose I walk into a bike shop and see a 29er and start wondering ......damn marketing people! I must say I am leaning towards option 1, can someone convince me otherwise?
  8. So I'm looking at spending R10K on a hardtail 29er and came across the Momsen AL329. The 2012 spec looks awesome value for money, but the 2013 spec is quite different in comparison. Anyone own a 2013 Momsen AL329 or have anything to say about it? Thanks guys.
  9. Hi All, In search of some advice. I'm looking to buy a used Momsen SL929. I am 184cm tall with regular build (93kg). The bike I'm interested in has a 17" SL929 2013 frame. It is going for a good price and it will be hard not to accept this offer. As this is a second hand buy there will be no oppurtunity for me to fit the bike to my specific needs. If there is anyone out there who can answer this question please do: Will a 17" SL 929 frame fit me??? Regards, Derik
  10. Need some help in choosing my first mtb - All XL 29ers, hardtails under R8K. I am 6ft3 and quite a big fella. My options are: Momsen AL229 for R7,500 Mongoose Meteore Competition for R6,700 Merida Big Nine TFS100 for R7,000 Any advice or tips would be appreciated!
  11. Howzit, I am looking to upgrade to a 29er HT, and can't decide between these bikes. Any advice out there?
  12. Hi I have been looking at bikes for several weeks and have narrowed it down to 3 bikes. Momsen 329 (new) Silverback Vida 1 (used) Corratec Superbow Fun (New) All 3 have similar components. SRAM 5x/7x or Shimano Deore/SLX. I did not look at the wheels or shocks. Prices are between R8k and R10k. I have seen good reviews for the Silverback, but could not find any for the Corratec. Which one would you buy?
  13. Hi all, I know this has been asked a million times but since a lot of the 2014 models are coming out this might be useful info for others as well. I am looking at getting a new mountain bike and after a lot of investigation I decided to go for a 29" or maybe a 27.5". My budget is <R10k and I had the following models in mind: 2014 Merida Big 7 300 2014 Merida Big Nine 300 2014 Titan 29er Comp 2014 Momsen AL229 The Titan has a Rock Shox XC32 Silver Solo Air Fork and the Momsen a Suntour SR XCR AIR HLO 100. The Merida's either mention the SR 29 XCM HLO 100 or the RST F1rst Air not sure which one they have. Momsen has SRAM X5 Derailleurs while the others have Shimano SLX / M390. Tektro HDC 300/301 brakes except for the Titan with Shimano M430 brakes. What do you think?
  14. Hi guys I need a lot of help. I am looking at purchasing a 29er for social riding at the beachfront and the occasional sugarcane dirt road. As I am brand new at this I have done some research but still confused as to what brand to buy. I am looking at the Momsen AL129, giant revel 0 or the Titan trail. Please may I have your thoughts on the above. Please bear in mind that I am a BIG boy..
  15. Been doing a lot of research on finding a great entry mountain bike. I've decided on the Momsen AL329.... Is there anything in that price range worth looking at.
  16. Hi I'm in the market for a 29er hardtail (budget around 9k), my bike shop has offered me the following: 2013 Trek Cobia 29er - but he only has a large, so he said he can move the components over to a Momsen AL529 medium frameset and sell this to me for R9 500. Is this a good deal? What other options do I have in this price range? He also offered me a medium 2013 Trek X-Caliber 29er for R12 000, but that's over my budget. I don't know much about the different components etc. (I'm new to MTB) so any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

    20 inch mtb

Hi guys, I want to get a 20 inch mtb for my son for his birthday in September, I want to get him something decent, so far the Momsen and the Specialized Hot Rock come out tops, difference is the Momsen is rigid and the Specialized has a Suntour fork. Momsen goes for R4k and Spez about R3,200, leaning toward the Momsen just from a weight point of view, the forks on most 20 inch bikes seem to be a waste of time. Any thoughts or suggestions ?

  21. Hi All Just thought I would share my experience Good and Bad that I have had with Momsen bikes. not sure if this is the right place on the forums so if not please feel free to move it. I bought my AL129 about 3 months ago, yes it is the entry level bike but I was just starting out. I loved the look and feel of it as well as the price. My first ride was at Rosemary Farm after the ride I noticed that my wheel was slightly buckled. I was a bit concerned as I didn't abuse it in any way so I did some reading and it seemed that machine made wheels are a tad crappy so I had it trued and went out again. all worked well for about 3 rides I then had a fall at an event and the wheel buckled again, this was expected and so far I was still loving my Momsen. Had it trued again at Finish ilne cycles and did another event, before even starting the race I pushed down on my shock and the wheel gave in. Bad true perhaps or bad rim? I then went to a couple of places when finally reaching someone that actually wanted to help me. He said the rim was completely stuffed and that I needed a new one, he also didn't charge me an arm and a leg. Where lies the problem then? Well I contacted Momsen about this and they completely sidestepped the question when asked are the rims that bad, I then asked for a recommendation on a new rim no one responded. When I called them to ask if they can supply a replacement they stated that they do not import these rims and tried to sell me some rim that would cost almost as much as the bike itself. So you build them locally? but do not have the rims? When I decided to confront them on Facebook they just keep on deleting my posts. So in short in my opinion they have some of the worst rims on the AL129 and it would seem some of the worst service around. Perhaps this is the norm when coming to cycling as I am still new to it but to me this is not acceptable. Just informing everyone of my experience and perhaps provide warning to those looking to buy Momsen bikes.
  22. Hi peeps I sold my 2013 Merida Matts TFS 900 about a month ago and got a 2013 Momsen AL329R. On Merida's site they say the TFS 900 has Avid Elixir 1 brakes on them but that's not the case, or at least in SA. I remember my Merida had Shimano brakes on it but can't remember which brakes. Now the Momsen does have Avid Elixir 1 brakes on it and I hate it. Even my Silverback Stride 10 had better braking ability and I remember it had a cheap set of Shimano hydraulic brakes on it. These Avid's on my Momsen are noisy and their braking ability is poor. It seems as though the braking intensity before lockout on them are weak and one also needs to pull the levers quite hard where as the Shimano brakes had a lot of braking intesity before lockout and the levers did not have to be pulled hard, they were more sensitive. I tried setting the reach on the Avid's and it helped a bit with the front brakes but the rear just sucks. I don't know if the person who built the Momsen set up the brakes incorrectly but I'm getting sick of these noisy useless brakes. Anyone know how I could resolve this issue or should I just throw the brakes away? Anyone maybe know what brakes are on the 2013 Merida Matts TFS 900? I don't really want to spend a lot of money on new brakes as I'm on a student budget and just spent a lot of money on getting the Momsen and doing a decent tubeless conversion on it.
  23. South African masters cross country mountain biking pocket rocket Natalie Bergstrom (Coffeeberry/Momsen) has overcome her recent knee injury in time to give the final two months of her preparations for the 2013 UCI MTB Masters World Championships at Cascades MTB Park in Pietermaritzburg from 21-25 August a full go. 24. So just been having a chat with a mate who has a nice choice to make but isn't too sure on what to go with. He's looking for a new ride and has the choice of an alu' FS 6er yeti ASR or something bigger hooped with A Spez' Carve Pro or Momsen Al529. Yeah, kinda different but they are what he's looking at. He's a 6'er up to now. Isn't going to be doing long xc or races, it's more for blasting Tokai, table mountain and every now off to Breede area & Jonkers. It's about fun - Hits, thrashing about, zipping along trails, up to the mast every now and then, little hits, popping the front over little take offs, finding different lines here and there. It's not about going faster than this one or looking cooler than that one, he rides for himself and the enjoyment of it. He's 5'9", if he wants to go long distance or fast then it done on the tar as he's a solid roadie as well as owning past skills on the dirt. Personally I'd say the yeti without a doubt but I was wondering what everyone else thinks as I love 6ers and haven't spent enough time on 9ers in a variety of conditions to say one way or another.
