  1. The Transkei Slowride is a five day fully catered mountain bike trail opening in March 2016, and can be ridden any time of the year. The 350 km route starts in the Drakensberg Mountains, near Naudes Nek (the highest road in South Africa) and descends through the grassy uplands of the Eastern Cape, through the spectacular Mzimvubu Valley to Port St Johns on the Wild Coast. The route takes riders through numerous unique landscapes in one of the most beautiful and rural parts of South Africa. Each day consists of 50-100 km of riding, with overnight camps in spectacular locations along the trail. The trail costs R7,500 per person and is fully catered (dinner, breakfast and a packed lunch) with accommodation provided. Bookings before January 2016 will receive a discounted rate of R5,000 per person. Check out www.slowridemtb.com or www.facebook.com/TranskeiSlowride

  3. HERO ADVENTURE TAKE OVER KINGS KLOOF VENUE After careful consideration and negotiations with land owners, The Hero Adventure team can officially announce the take-over of the Kings Kloof Trails The opportunity came our way as a result of the great reviews and development of Hero Adventure Park at Heia Safari. The Kings Kloof Trails on the west rand have been a favourite for locals in the area for a number of years but have needed an upgrade recently and unfortunately the trails were closed earlier this year. Our vision of developing safe, quality adventure venues took another step forward with the request to look at taking over this venue. For us this presents another exciting challenge that we are looking forward to. We have had to carefully consider the decision ensuring that we can 1stly handle the challenge without any of our existing projects been affected negatively, but also ensure we can deliver an exciting new product to our customers, something that will take the Hero Brand to the next level. What will Hero Kings Kloof Have? Without giving too much away we will be developing a number of new trails that will include beginner, intermediate and more advanced routes. Downhill trails pump tracks and a host of other exciting developments are on the cards. As with Hero Adventure at Heia Safari, this venue will be a multisport venue catering for MTB, Trail Running, Hiking, Obstacle racing, Adventure Events and others. When will it be open? Redevelopment will take a considerable amount of time but we plan to open the 1st Phase before the end of the year and build from there. Ideas and Suggestions We would like to get feedback from locals and Hero Supporters, so hit us with all your ideas and suggestions on what you would like to see implemented and developed at Hero Kings Kloof Memberships We will be launching our Hero Adventure Membership in the next few weeks , more details will be released shortly but what we can tell you is that memberships will be blanket memberships that will give you access to all the facilities at all the parks for 1 price Once again we would like to that all the people who continue to support Hero, without you this dream would not be, we look forward to many many more exciting times
  4. BRENDON Davids made sure there was no repeat of his disappointment from two years ago when he won the 10 Anniversary Sunday Tribune Jeep Hill 2 Hill in convincing fashion on Sunday. The talented Kargo Pro Team rider was cruelly beaten into third position in a three-way sprint for the title after 100km of intense racing in 2013, but on Sunday made sure there was no chance of a repeat heartbreak when he broke away with 30km to go and held on to beat Andrew Hill by two minutes. However his joy meant a déjà vu disappointment for runner-up Hill who fell short by a narrow margin for the second year in a row, with Davids securing victory in virtually identical fashion to the way in which James Reid clinched the title last year. Last year Reid made the decisive race-winning 31kms from the finish, just before the dreaded Hill ‘n Dale climb, this year Hill was with his main rival as they hit the foot of the climb with 30km to go but as the crested the steep ascent he was 25 seconds off the pace and drifted further back for the rest of the race. Leeroy Emslie was also gapped on the climb and ended third, holding of Tyrone White who fought back to fourth after a puncture stopped his challenge for the win when he was in the lead group. Derrin Smith claimed fifth by overtaking the up and coming Sthembiso Masango near the finish after the latter had ridden himself into contention podium place with a powerful second-half surge. In perfect cool, dry and windless conditions Jeannie Dreyer used the fitness she has picked up on two mammoth rides, a ten-repeat ride up and down Sani Pass in July and a 900km race in the United States in August, to claim her second women’s title. The 2013 Champion claimed the Queen of the Hill prize 25km into the race and was never challenged as she steadily rode away from the rest of the female competitors. Hayley Smith and Desiree Verwey fought a race-long battle for second, seven minutes back from Dreyer, with the South Coast youngster eventually beating her North Coast rival by just over a minute. On Saturday, in the 45km race, Julian Jessop, fresh from his 14th place at the junior World Championships last weekend, decimated the men's field, while Frankie du Toit, also just returned from the World Champs in Andorra, prevailed in a tight women's event. Jessop broke away from Jedson Tooms about ten kilometres into the race from Cato Ridge to Shongweni and then rode a solo time-trial to a solid three-minute win, despite a fall near the finish. In the women's race, Du Toit had to work hard over the first 20 kilometres before finally getting a small gap over 15-year-old Tiffany Keep which she was able to slowly grow over the hills in the final 20 kilometres two eventually win by just over two minutes. 100km results: 1 Brendon Davids 3.37.44, 2 Andrew Hill 3.39.46, 3 Leeroy Emslie 3.42.28, 4 Tyronne White 3.43.00, 5 Derrin Smith 3.47.06, 6 Sthembiso Masango 3.47.06, 7 Ryan Piercey 3.49.17, 8 Jarred Higgins 3.50.23, 9 Matthew Wilkinson 3.50.54, Stuart Marais 3.51.59. Women: 1 Jeannie Dreyer 4.23.15, 2 Hayley Smith 4.29.51, 3 Desiree Verwey 4.31.26, 4 Brenda Potts, 4.40.16, 5 Sarah van Heerden 4.43.45

PENNYPINCHERS SILVERSTAR MTB CHALLENGE – RIDER BRIEF http://i3.cmail1.com/ei/j/32/35B/982/csimport/2015Silverstarlogo.113542.jpg Finally, the big day isn’t far away! Thanks for entering Saturday’s 8th edition of the Pennypinchers Silverstar Mountain Bike Challenge. We look forward to hosting you and trust you’ll enjoy your day out on some wonderful riding terrain. Starting times for the batches are as follows: 08h00: 40km batch A 08h05: 40km batch B 08h10: 40km batch C 08h20: 20km batch A 08h25: 20km batch B All riders have to report to the registration venues to collect number boards, batch stickers and race packs. Every rider will receive a temporary Spectrum Sport timing board which they have to affix to their handlebars with cable straps. These boards have to be handed in at the finish line once you’ve completed your ride. RIDERS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO RIDE WITH THEIR PERMANENT SAS BOARDS. Registration venues: Thursday 3 September 2015: Cycle Lab Superstore, Fourways (10h00 – 16h00) Friday 4 September 2015: The Bicycle Company Muldersdrift (10h00 – 16h00) Riders who cannot get to these venues will be helped on the morning from 07h00 at the main entrance to the Casino, but will not receive race packs and will not be able to collect any race merchandise. There will be event T-shirts on sale at registration (limited sizes) - please enquire from our crew. Our route crew under the guidance of experienced route builder Darren Herbst have been working hard on the route and we will do our utmost to help everyone have a pleasant day out on the bike. With more than 1000 riders entered, it’s inevitable that the route will be congested in certain areas where the 20km and 40km events are on the same stretches. The Hillsnacks climb does, however, provide ample distance to stretch bunches out and the route keeps climbing for a further 2km after riders exit off the R28. The split point is at the 13km mark where the 40km ride turns back onto the mountain for a sublime loop on the Ridge while the 20km riders turn down towards the finish line. The split point is clearly marked in the lead-up as well as at the split, so make sure you look out for it. The two distances join each other again shortly before the final descent. The final descent down the old ox wagon trail is technical, but we’ve done a lot of work on it to try and make it ride-able. 20km and 40km riders will be on this section together and we request that 20km riders, who can’t ride the descent, walk to the far left hand side off the track to allow the quick 40km riders free passage to the finish line. There will be marshals on this section pushing slow traffic left - please adhere to their instructions. Click here to view the 20km route map and profile. Click here to view the 40km route map and profile The race starts inside Silverstar Casino’s new top parking lot above the complex (not the bottom parking area next to the boom gates as was the case in previous years) and goes out onto the R28 tarred main road climb before turning left into the bush on the Krugersdorp Ridge. Metro police will provide an escort and pointsmen on this section and we request riders to be cautious until we leave the main road (big thanks to Chief Sup Bryan Murray and his officers!). There are two water points on the route, which are stocked with PowerAde and Coke as well as tasty titbits, including koeksisters and crunchy cookies. We ask riders to be courteous at all times and stick to the left of the track whenever possible to allow faster riders to pass. NO SHOUTING AT SLOWER RIDERS WILL BE TOLLERATED AND THE ORGANISERS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO DISQUALIFY ANY RIDER DUE TO MISCONDUCT IN THIS REGARD. The boom gates at Silverstar Casino will be open from 6:30 on Saturday. Prize giving is in the Piazza in front of the big screen at 11:00. Festivities are hosted by the “Voice of Cycling” in South Africa, Johnny Koen. The prize giving function will be broadcast on the big screen, creating a nice atmosphere at the venue. The finish line is inside the Super Dome at Silverstar For directions to the venue go to www.silverstarcasino.co.za A big thank you to our sponsors and partners: Pennypinchers Silverstar Casino Mogale City Metro Police Action Ford High 5 Ftech Rudy Project For further information email eventsupport@asgworld.co.za or phone 076 621 1807 .............................................................................................................................................................. http://i4.cmail1.com/ei/j/32/35B/982/csimport/BESTEMEDRACES2015editable_Page_1.055748.jpg FOR ENTRIES AND INFO ON THE BESTMED SATELLITE CLASSIC, CLICK HERE. 8. (UPDATE: See new times & dates at each venue below) The 2015 Park Planning info sessions The general sentiment as seen on other threads is that this planning doc does not offer specifics about the future of mountain biking in the reserve, but what is most important in its content is that mountain biking has been included in the zoning areas where we would ultimately like to have access to in the future. Wanting though offers no guarantee of what we will get and as some have pointed out in other places, it is every person's support for this process as well as other processes where more detail is applied, that will make the difference to what we get. A quick run down of who represents you in Tokai.. TokaiMTB:is part of the TMMTB forum that is the official comms channel with TMNP.as a constituted group, also has this status of comms channel but on a local level i.e. in Tokai and surrounds. engages Parks on an operational level too i.e. daily activities through a permit structure. We are just one stakeholder in this Park planning process. Each individual who registers is another. We would have just the same amount of influence as each person who registers and provides comment. The positive of registering is that it shows interest which shows Parks that we are listening and interested. This interest is a gauge for where they can and should be applying their focus. Meurant is also closely involved in this planning process and while the document is still being studied, overall it seems to provide enough of a future for us. It's when we get to presenting routes and the EMP at public participation level that every mountain biker needs to be there. This is the time where everyone puts their differences aside and shows support for the groups and the plans presented. Mountain bikers outweigh probably every other activity combined, (those with EMP's) but the number should not be seen to be used as force, it shows where the focus of recreational needs are. We are still bound by the terms of access as stated in the EMP for each activity, which is why the rewrite process that is nearing completion through the TMMTB forum is is so important. Where this document involves us, it only serves to state that mountain biking is included in the activities list for users of the park and shows where studies offer the best area based on impact. But the EMP and the routes and facilities proposals is where your support is ultimately needed, Tokai's one is starting now. It’s being called the "Project Charter" that includes the vision for new trails and facilities in Tokai. It will be a draft document that initiates the planning process that seeks TMNP's approval for a shared and mutually beneficial network of trails. As with the Park Planning doc, there will be an advertised info session for this draft presentation that will require maximum support. Comments can even be positive and supportive, “I’m really excited about this project!”, while negative comments can be used to show where the plan can be improved or concerns around specifics highlighted. On the flip side however, a negative comment can also show what other users are not happy about, which bring us to how mountain biking interacts with other users. Quite simply, making enemies is counter-productive. We hear too often about cyclists swearing at grannies and their dogs, or riding areas out of bounds. This should stop as a matter of urgency.. be the bigger person. On public participation level, when the bell is rung - it is over. Register, attend, comment and show support for both the reps and Table Mountain National Park. More info on the 2015 Park Planning process can be found here. The document download links from this page too.http://www.sanparks.org/conservation/park_man/ - - - -Update.. 9. Hey guys, I am fairly new to the MTB industry, as I have only been riding since last year December. I am keen to start riding more often (every weekend), and looking for some guys in the same boat. I want to obviously ride trails, but at the same time I'm not really keen on trails with no single tracks. I like to think I climb the hills for the single tracks down, if that makes any sense...? I also don't ride to race, or make good time. Its simply for the fun of it! Please let me know if there is anyone out there either doing the above or looking at doing the above... Maybe its a good idea to post where you are from, and where you often ride, so I'll start: Situated: Kommetjie Ride: Anything from Bloemendal to Paul Cluver etc. - No Tokai anymore

  12. http://nsmb.com/hey-neighbour-seb-kemp/ Hey Neighbour – Seb Kemp Who The Hell is Seb Kemp? Words by Cam McRae. Video by Matt Dennison. March 8th, 2015 Who The Hell is Seb Kemp? Even Seb has trouble answering that question, as you’ll see in his this episode of Hey Neighbour. We tried to sort this out by pointing the camera at him for a change. If you know his name you’ve probably read his words or seen him on video, (**** Mountain Bikers Say anyone?) but Seb’s roots in mountain biking reach below the media veneer. Even as his notoriety has grown, Seb has continued to express himself by building trails. In his words: “Writing and filmmaking might be the most explicit ways of doing it, but trail building results in a tangible object which displays a builder’s energy, their will, imagination and philosophy. Every tire that follows a trail is taking the journey or reading the story a trail builder has written.” Building and riding are simply extensions of the same activity in Seb’s mind: “Trail building also feels more important than riding to me. I think I spent more time building last year than I did riding and I don’t feel like I lost anything, rather I feel like I gained more. Biking doesn’t have to be about the bike, or even biking. It’s about anything that a bike stirs you to be passionate about and sometimes that can appear, to anyone not looking carefully, as something totally unrelated.” Seb is an inspired teacher and coaching is another outlet for his obsession. Mr. Kemp is one of those rare individuals who always gives you full attention. Turning off the noise in the background and connecting deeply with people seems increasingly rare – but for Seb it’s his default – and it’s part of what makes him a great instructor. These are the things Seb does; writing, building, teaching, filmmaking. But they are not who Seb is. Most of us are pushed and molded by society into following a certain path. Seb Kemp is one of the few people I know who lives a truly authentic life. Status and trappings are of no interest unless they lead to real experiences. He seems to rage against any predetermined impulse and to depart radically if he finds himself on a route he didn’t choose. And he’s better than you at everything (except grammar). Who the hell is Seb Kemp? Whoever the hell he wants to be. https://vimeo.com/121221229

  14. Right so now i read in the Argus another cyclist has been mugged by knife and panga wielding rejects of the human race at Tokai forest. 3rd attack in thee weeks. We pay to get mugged seems like the norm these days. Yes this topic is out of rage and UTTER frustration. We have become far to complacent about matters like this. We defend our selves and we go to jail but they can go on the hunt and the police and Table mountain parks board are too useless to protect us, however ever so eager to take our hard earned money. Mugged twice in one day. These days i cycle with a 2 million volt tazer. Looks like a cell phone but the only ringing that will happen is in their heads when they wake up only to discover that the ringing in their ears are far less serious as their crushed hands and knees. Im not violent but i am a product of our ever so aggressive society. Most of you will say just dont cycle there cause its a hot spot, and i would say BS. 6 months to a year ago it was not. We have become targets. So if we stop riding there they will just target us somewhere else. When will it stop.? Tokai on the upper levels have become a danger zone. ride the lower levels. Again BS. why should i pay to ride but get restricted cause the "officials" cant, wont or are unable to help protect us. When you pay at the little pay office they have a sign board that reads " beware of baboons " that should be replaced with " beware of Hijacking mugging rejects of the human race " the only way our "officials" will listen is to boycott them. No money coming in = no salary. ride else where till they feel the pinch. Its in our hands to rectify this problem. Force them to do something about it. Yea i know it will cost petrol to go ride in durbanville but its safer. Id rather pay these places to go ride than to go ride in fear for the next attack. Tokai for me has become a problem. I dont always want to ride in a group and i dont want to be told where to ride because its a crime hot spot. Will people wake up only when we have a fatality or a rape?
