  1. Hey guys I am struggling to decide which fork to buy. I have a Momsen AL329 frame (tapered). I dont have a huge budget and I have been looking at: RockShox Recon Silver TK Solo Air RockShox XC 32 TK Solo Air Forks Suntour Raidon RST First I Cant find the Rockshox forks at any of the shops near me, they mostly only sell the Reba. I have seen it on CRC for affordable prices. Do you guys have any recommendations on these forks, and also where to get a good deal on them. I would prefer to buy locally, in the JHB area as I would also like to have the steerer cut (if need be) Im not overly keen on buying second hand as most of the forks that I have seen for under R3k look like they have been through the wars.
  2. Mate of mine had his PYGA stolen in Parow yesterday. PYGA One Ten 29 size large Raw aluminium Wheelset: ZTR flow with Schwalbe Nobby Nics and Red Hope hubs. Drive Train: XO cranks 3 x 10, XO front and rear derailleur, XO gripshift Bars: FSA 750mm , Seat post Rockshox Reverb dropper post with WTB speed saddle Fork: Rockshox Reverb dialled to 120mm Pedals: shimano XT trail. The serial number is unique: NUTR001
  3. I walked into Finish Line Cycles in Edenvale recently, best bike shop in Johannesburg. To be greeted by a beauty, the new top spec Titan Carbon 29er Ultimate. It looked great and has some great components, full XX1, SRAM carbon wheels and RockShox SID XX. Then I saw the price...almost 60k. It looked a bit high, until I saw the beauty standing a few bikes away, a Momsen Vipa. Specs are almost the same, XX1 with front and rear suspension provided by Fox CTD and ZTR Crest wheels. And price...only 49k. Then I knew it, Titan lost the plot. I much rather have the Vipa. It just is a beter bike, not even mentioning the 10k you will save by buying one
  4. I have a Trek Superly that has a Reba RL29 fork. I'd like to add remote lockout to it, is it possible? Don't really want to replace as it is the stock G2 geometry fork?
  5. After having just been at my LBS to collect my bike I discover that their appears to be a lot less travel than I remember ( shock is shorter, after the guys had a look and I sat on it and almost maxed it out with an apparent 120psi in it.they decided to send it back to CT to be relooked at. My concern is that my stansions ( hope I spelt that right) do have a few slight ridges on them, however before the service I had no problems with airloss. And cannot afford new ones! What other factors could be invloved? I did also have a remote lockout removed and a standard one put in its place if that could effect it. Help please!?
  6. Hunted for this topic, but no avail. I bought a brand new Revelation 140mm 650b fork a month back and have ridden it a lot. I am a Fox user, this is my first Rockshox fork, and I have to say… It's OK, but not fantastic. But what bugs me more is that I know I haven't set it up right. Why? Because there is NO information in the product package, and NO information on the Rockshox website, which I find quite amazing - they don't even tell you what each knob does. So, if there are any died in the wool Rockshox users out there who can help me. I am pretty happy with the big hit performance on the whole, but it's the smaller stuff that's bothering me. My Fox is nice and plush, and uses all available travel, but now I'm way down in pressure with the Revelation and I can't feel much of a difference with the compression fully on or off. Anyone help me with a 1.2.3 type guide here? I know that the rebound adjust is at the bottom of the stanchion, and I know that there are 3 platforms at the top, with a compression knob at the top. I can ride the bike over rocks and the fork does OK, but when it hits chatter and small bumps it's not nearly as good as the Fox.
  7. So, after having been riding (and enjoying riding) a fairly "mass-market" Scott Scale since the beginning of 2013, I decided it was time for something special again. The Scale's an amazing climber, and because of it's sub-70deg HA, it actually handles a bit of tech quite respectably, but I've been missing railing into berms flat out and then bouncing off the gnarly stuff on the way out. So, I grabbed the opportunity to buy a well-cared-for Pyga OneTen29 last week and proceeded to rebuild it with a mixture of new and used parts. The spec list: Frame: Pyga OneTen29 2012, serial number "Cliff", Shock: Rockshox Monarch RT3 Fork: Mongrel Rockshox Relevation (2012 lowers, 2014 RCT3 upper assembly with FastBlack stanchions) Wheelset: Novatec Flowtrail 29 Tyres: Rocket Ron 2.25 rear, Hans Dampf 2.35 front Cranks: XX1 156q GXP Derailleur: X9 type 2 short-cage Shifter: X0 black Brakes: XT 785 Rotors: XT RT76, 180mm front, 160mmm rear Pedals: XT 785 Trail Stem: FSA SL-K Bar: Truvativ Noir T40 Seatpost: Easton EA70 Saddle: Fizik Tundra 2 Mg The raw finish of the frame was looking a bit dull and scratched in places, so I took everything apart and applied some TLC with steel wool and a scourier sponge in places. Cliff from Pyga was very helpful in supplying a new decal kit, which pimped things out again afterwards. I spent a few nights last week and some time over the weekend building stuff up (thanks to Marc at Crown Cycles for helping with a few bits and bobs during Argus mania). The end result since last night is this: I have yet to ride it any further than the road in front of the house, so will report back as soon as the first ride is over. So far, I've been mighty impressed with the build quality and overall feel of the beast. Hot damn!
  8. Anyone try 2.5wt damper oil in Rockshox Forks, just to clarify thats approx 7 cST @ 40 deg fork oil, Rockshox factory oil is Maxima Racing Fork Fluid 85/150 5wt Fork Oil 15.9 cST @ 40 deg. I have found some Putoline HPX 2.5wt 6,74 cST @ 40 deg for R140 a Litre at the local Hoda-Wing motorbike shop. Some say if you are not to heavy its a good way to tune the fork, I'm 70kg, it allows the forks to respond faster making them feel smoother over small chatter. From what I understand 2.5wt will speed up both rebound and reduce compression damping, mainly on the low speed side of things. Anyone actually tried it?
  9. I currently have a Specialized XC Comp (2009). It has basic components: - RockShox Tora fork - Avid Juicy 3 brakes - Deore shifters - SLX RD I like the frame but the bike is damn heavy (16kgs) and the brakes and fork could be much better. I'm thinking of updgrading the components (SLX brakes to start, new fork next) and slowly building a better bike. Option 2 is sell the bike and buy a new one. Whats your advice? I'm leaning towards component upgrade.
  10. Good day, Three of our mountain bikes were stolen this morning (15/3) around 5am. Please keep an eye open for them. 11. can somebody aybe help me out i want to know if i can tkae the hydro-lock off my my rock shoc XX WC and put a manual lock on?
  12. Hi from Portugal. I've come here as there are very few Pygas in Europe at the moment so I'm hoping there is a larger pool of knowledge here to get advice from. I'd would like to pick some of you Pyga owners' brains and compare some of your builds. I'm getting a large OneTen29 frame and would like to build a sub 12.5Kg bike but at the same time keep costs sensible. My plan was to go full XT drivetrain with SLX brakes, Rockshox Revelation Forks (20mm axle) and Truvativ T30 cockpit. I'm still undecided on wheels but was thnking of ArchEX on Hope Pro II Evo hubs (or similar) or Pacenti TL28 Rims on the Hopes. I believe both the Arch and Pacenti build to around 1900g for the wheelset. Tires will either be Rocket Rons or Ikons. Do you think with the above spec I'd be below 12.5Kg? What specs are you guys running and what sort of weights are your bikes coming in at?
  13. On my Rockshox Revelation(2009 Rockshox Revelation 426 140mm with Motion control) I'm not getting full travel, bottoms out with a solid thud with 25mm of travel left. I let out all the air from both positive and negative and still won't go past the last 25mm of travel. What could be the problem? I'm thinking the last time I serviced the lowers I used to much oil? Or apparently on the damper side I may have a damping fluid leak into the lowers which is doing the same thing as overfilling the lowers oil. Only think I have done recently is I screwed out the damper cartridge and then put it back in, could that have somehow done anything?
  14. Hi, im looking at buying a new mtb which has a threadless headset. I dont know the difference between all the different headsets. But my main question is, if i ever wanted to upgrade my fork lets say to a rock shox reba fork, will it be compatible with the threadless headset ? Thanks. And the model above the one i want to buy has a tapered headset. Is that much better to have ?
  15. My 2010 Giant Anthem X2 was stolen out of my garage on Saturday 15 February. It is a stock bike, except the front fork is a black Rockshox Reba and not a Fox as in the picture. Please be on the look out for it if you are in the Somerset West area. Reward offered. Contact Greg on 0845115878. Thanks
  16. Hey all, posted a classifieds ad with no luck.. Was wondering if anyone could help me source a Stealth Reverb, preferably in SA. I have checked all the online shops that I know of and no one has stock of a 30.9... Does anyone here know of a shop that has stock? At a semi decent price? (Only got pricing at one shop for about R5k, which is getting a little high for my taste, might rather go for non stealth versions available locally at abouts R3.5K) Any ideas?
  17. Hi there, I just had my trusted hardtail stolen at the Grabow Country Club. Parked inside the gated area when the bike was nicked of the rack in broad daylight. It was the following spec Momsen RaceTec2 Alu frame, black frame with the red and white decals of the 2012 or 2013 "129" model. Size L Full XT Group incl. XT brakes. Raceface NW 1x10 conversion. 32t. Fulcrum Red Power XL 29 Wheels with Maxxis Ikon 2.2 tyres White Rockshox Reba RLT Fizik Gobi saddle. Cockpit and post is basic FSA alu stuff Spez ergo gribs Note that the photo is a bit outdated. It still shows the 2x10 XT chainrings and the crossmark tyre. This upspec'ed 129er Momsen will definately be a rare sight. Please let me know here or on 0836808998 if you see it anywhere on the trails or for sale. Cheers Sebastian
  18. Hi Guys, Its time for a Rant because this has been going on for too long and I need to hear your opinions on this if you think I am wrong. If you post an advert in the classifieds section and you want to sell it.... POST A PICTURE of what you are selling.. Is it too much to ask for you to get off your lazy ass and take a picture of the used part you are asking a reasonable [according to you] price for?? Its not enough that you put in just one line saying i.e. "Rockshox SID XX 29er, 100mm travel with remote lockout" Why are you selling? Has it been serviced? What is the condition? Is postage included of is it for buyer's account? Post a picture so I can see if you were as attentive to it as this ambiguous ad... A poor advert raises questions like: Is this legit or will this shoddy character disappear as soon as I pay him? Is he hiding nasty scratches? Or does it have cable rub? Is the carbon crown cracked? If you want to sell something, make an effort!
  19. How difficult or easy is it to adjust the travel on a Reba dual air fork? Its currently running on 80mm travel but I want to extend it to 120mm for my new build if its at all possible. Is there any knowledgeable hubbers out their that can guide me or even do this for me and if so what can I expect to pay for this? Sorry for posting, I know I read it here somewhere a while back but too lazy to search for it.
  20. Wondering if someone here can demystify the whole mounting hardware/bushings thing for me? I'm changing from a 2014 Fox CTD Evolution to a Rockshox Monarch+ and from reading around I'm not so sure its going to be a straight swap. So, will the mounting hardware from my fox shock work with the monarch? Am I right in assuming that If the eyelet diameter and width of the eyelet (from side to side) are the same, then there would be no need for different hardware? or does it not work like that?
  21. I currently ride a Merida TFS300 26" with XT derailers, Mavic SLR rims and a RockShox Dual Air. I have been offered a Merida Big.Nine 1500 Lite with a whole 68km on the clock. Besides the obvious wheel size benefit is this bike going to: Last me 5 years? Be as much fun as my current steed? Is it a worthy purchase at R10K? Is there something better for the similar price? At 90kg, is there any worry of this frame wheel combo failing? Please advise any thoughts good or bad. Full Spec as follows Frame Name Merida Big.Nine Lite BC-D-Single R12 Fork Fox 32 Float 29 CTD Remote ready O/C (1.5T) - Evo100 Derailleur Front Shimano SLX HD double Derailleur Rear Shimano SLX Shadow+ Shifter Front Shimano SLX ispec Shifter Rear Shimano SLX ispec Brake Front Shimano SLX 180 mm ice Cen Brake Rear Shimano SLX 160 mm ice Cen Chainwheel Shimano SLX 38-24 Chain KMC X10 10s Hub Front Shimano SLX Cen Hub Rear Shimano SLX-12 Cen Rim Mavic EN321-29 Freewheel Shimano CS-HG-10 11-36 Tires Continental X-King 2.2 Spokes black stainless Handlebar Stem Merida Pro K OS -16°AD Handlebar Merida Pro OS 680 Flat Headset Big Conoid A-Bearing Seat Post Merida Pro H SB0 27.2 mm Saddle Fizik Gobi Pedal Shimano M520 Weight 12.40 kg
  22. Hi Hubbers, I am finding it very hard to decide what bike to buy. It is finally time to let my Anthem 26er go and get a Anthem 29er. Both Bikes have a similar price so what shall i do personal pros and cons weigh up equally. The advanced anthem is about R1.5k more expensive. Heres the Spec,Both bikes are new Bike 1 2014 Anthem x 29er 1 Ali SL frame Full SLX groupo Xt shadow rear derailer Fox float CTD front and back Bike 2 2013 Anthem Advance 29er (build) Composite/Carbon Frame Sram X5/X7 Groupo (corrected) Avid 3 (corrected) Shifters (only says SRAM) (corrected) Rockshox Reba RL fork, Rockshox rear shock (only rebound adj) (corrected)
  23. Help me choose please, I have 2 bikes on my shortlist, Merida Big 9 lite 1000 - R 13495 Scott Scale 960 - R 11699 Merida already has tubeless tyres on so add R 1000 to Scott price. Scott has remote shock lockout. Salesman reckons the Merida is better specced with much better wheels??? Merida has Manitou shock, till now all I have heard about is Suntour, Rockshox and Fox (never really in my proce range anyway.) Manitou is new to me and I heard that it must be serviced in CT even though another thread has a guy in JHB who does it??? I reallly like the look of the Merida personally. What do you think? Thanks
  24. Hi all Please be on the lookout for a stolen mountain bike. Taken from our garage sometime between Wed and Friday. It's a dark blue small Canondale Scalpel. It's the old style aluminium frame bike and is distinctive in that it is fitted with a Rockshox Reba front fork and not the usual Canondale fork. It also has a Pioneer Trek sticker on the seat tube. Claremont area, Cape Town Pic attached. Thanks Andre
  25. I lied, this is the last video of the week. A couple of mates playing a game of bike. It's simple, one person does a trick and the other has to repeat it. If you don't, you get a letter. It carries on until someone spells 'bike'. Click here to view the article
