  1. Interesting Marketing Campaign for the new Specialized S Works on the bike hub. Would be handy to have a redirect link on the image to take you to the website this would make a good marketing tool for the bike hub as now you get there click no thing happening so you loose interest. just ranting lol Ok further down the website there is another Spez add with the redirect fair enough
  2. Saw on my FB feed that he's going to attempt a 70.3 somewhere where it's terribly cold. For a man who does the 10k in UNDER 30 minutes, a top 10 swimmer each time, and a 350W+ avg over the 40km, surely this is laughable? My question is - why are most pros scared to "branch" off into longer disciplines, like in Richard's case? He's a world class, probably the best in the Olympic distance, surely he could still dominate the 70.3? He also just recently became the Xtrerra National Champion, so he's an on road AND off road national champion. How many (local) athletes can say that?! Side note - one of the Brownlee brother's qualified for the 10000m track event for GB...
  3. Apologies in advance if someone has asked this at some point, I did search the forums. I have a 2016 Specialized Camber and a 2016 Stumpjumper. The Camber has a "Brain" shock, the Stumpy has a non-brain shock. I prefer my Stumpy's rear shock, actually I prefer my Stumpy's whole shock setup to the Camber (it's fun). I'd like to be able to experiment with different shocks, but everything on the local second-hand market seems to have a different mount to what's on my Camber. I don't know what this mount is called, but it seems to be *the* standard rear shock mounting system. A website called bikeyoke sells an adapter which allows the use of standard shocks on a 2016 Camber, but these adapters, before shipping and customs duties, are about R 1700 (probably going to be about R 3000 all up as an estimate). Does anyone have any suggestions on an adapter available locally that is this price or less? Am I wasting my time wanting to try out different shock options? Maybe I'm expecting too much of my Camber.
  4. Hi Guys, I need your expert opinion please. Last year I bought a Specialised Stump Jumper 29 with 120mm travel front and back. As you progress you get fast and fast means more travel wouldn't be a bad idea. I have a revelation front shock and fox rear. Is there a reliable amount to increase the travel by without affecting the geometry too much? Has anyone done this before? I have googled and cant find out much. On a side note, anyone know the widest you can go on tyres on the non boost frame? Thank you for your assistance as always
  5. After a few months, what is the report back from users of the SWAT kit? Will other manufacturers follow? Is it possible to add SWAT kit to seatpost? Have only seen the system once, quick measurement about 38cm with bottle included,so probably will only fit xl bikes on seatpost. What do you guys think or am I crazy. I now saddle bags does the same, just like the look of being part of the bike.
  6. I bought a Specialized Roubaix SL4 Sport through the classifieds (not disk brakes). I want to give road cycling a go. The bike is very cool. It's pretty, unbelievably light (especially compared to my Camber). I'm investigating putting gravel wheels/tyres onto it. There are a few fun back roads near Durbanville including lots of gravel to explore. It's probably not possible to install gravel tyres/wheels, there's very little clearance between the front fork and the current tyre (enough for a finger). Does anyone have any experience or advice for putting gravel wheels onto a Roubaix SL4 ? Unreasonable ? Buy a Diverge ? Stick to your MTB ? Thanks
  7. Has anyone done the basic 50hr service on their brain fork? Just the simple lower, stanchion clean and oil replacement. From what I've gathered on the net it seems as though you just need to let out the air in + and - remove the 10mm nuts on the lowers tap out the uppers drain the oil, clean/replace wipers, replace oil and bolt lowers and uppers back together. Is there any more to it? (Don't wanna service the brain at all) I do not have an S-Works fork with the brain fade control on the uppers, apparently you have to reset the brain on these forks when you take them apart. If anyone has serviced successfully please comment.

  9. The Karkloof MTB Club will be hosting the 2018 SA Enduro champs on 27 - 28 October. The event will be held over 2 days incorporating the best gravity orientated trails both the Howick & Karkloof trail networks have on offer. If you're keen to enter the info for the event can be found here. In an effort to raise funds for the event the club has a 2019 Specialized S-Works Stumpjumper up for grabs. All the cash generated from this initiative will go straight back into the event and the trails! You can enter here.
  10. Opinions please. Images of item attached... Purchased 2FO 2.0, from Cedar Square (JHB), after two rides at the PWC Bike Park and Northern Farm, if anything +- 60km the left front foot toe area, pinkie toe side, started coming undone. Dropped the shoes off at Cedar square and they were sent off to Cape Town. Received feedback today to say warranty has been declined. Called Cape Town Head Office and spoke to Mark who actually did a report on the shoe. No, I haven't seen the "report". The warranty was declined as a result of the shoe being caught on "something". Maybe my pedals. No matter who this is taken up with me the warranty decision won't be changed - this after Mark apologising for "I'm sorry I feel that way". One of the main points on the Specialized website is "Smooth, thermobonded upper for lightweight durability and a snag-free profile" https://www.specialized.com/us/en/2fo-flat-2-0-mountain-bike-shoes/p/134052 After close on 4 years the impact vxi have started to come undone. Totally reasonable and exceeded expectations. Thought I'd give the new and improved 2FOs a go and never expected them to make it through through only two rides. Beyond annoyed... Looking to take this further and would like to know if the wear on a flat pedal shoe - that have never been ridden anywhere near the terrain of Whistler or an Enduro event (for goodness sake Northern farm & PWC??) - is acceptable after two rides due to snagging on, maybe, my pedals (Spank Spoon); or should these be considered snagged on my pedals and be done with it? Images: Left foot "snag" image (snagless design according to the site) Both shoes - right shoe for reference Sole - still in good nick
  11. Hello everyone, I want to start riding dirt jumps, but I can't seem to find any stockists. Does anybody know of a stockist in South Africa? Few options I've looked at: Scott Voltage YZ 0.1 Specialized P.3 Canyon Stitched 360° (*) *Only available through shipping, but if someone has it for sale,I'd really like to buy it! Thanks a lot, Oscar
  12. How well would a 120mm travel fork work on a 2015 model Specialized Epic? Anyone who's tried this, or has seen it done? Bought the bike 2nd hand last year after a few years on my trusty Scott hardtail and have been enjoying how nicely the Epic balances comfort of full suspension vs keeping a "racy feel". I'm by no means a racing snake or trail machine, but I enjoy mixing up Jonkershoek/OakValley/Welvanpas in-between longer "dirty roady" type routes. I find though that the 100mm travel upfront is a little lacking on some trails and reckon 120mm would make a big difference. Buying a Spez Camber (or similar alternative brand model) not an option - because let's face it, bikes have become silly expensive, and I really like the Epic as a general purpose type bike. How would going from 100 to 120mm affect the Epic? The obvious points would be slightly slacker headtube angle, and slight increase in bike front height requiring saddle & stem adjustments. Any risks or potential issues I might be missing?
  13. In the market for a good all round trail bike. My 2 top choices are the santa cruz hightower and the new stumpjumper comp alloy. the stumpjumper is around $3k while the hightower is $1k more. Anyone have any suggestions on which one they prefer?
  14. So what is the view on the new Specialized Diverge? I really like the idea of it and what they are trying to achieve, what are the thoughts on theHub and owners of them? I cannot seem to find that many reviews, I know it is still very new but definitely a new hype and it looks like the ideal everyday commuting/adventure/touring bike. I looked at the Diverge A1, very well priced at around R15k, although specced with Tiagra it has the frame and some fat tyres to get the adventure on. What are the thoughts and how are the owners finding them and maybe what other options are there to consider. I am very keen to buy one. See these bikes are called 'Gravel Grinders', Giant, Niner, GT has some options as well but not sure if they are sold in SA? Those that do not know the bikes. Here is a link to Spez website: http://www.specialized.com/za/en/bikes/road/diverge

  16. Morning all, So I'm pondering about getting a new bike. I currently have a 2013 Scott Spark 940 & I have narrowed it down to the above 4 2017 models which from my current knowledge are in a similar price bracket & the start of the carbon ranges. I've seen a few reviews but some are outdated & I will still search for more. I'm no race snake but enjoy my riding once or twice a week. I do the Trailseeker (current C batch) & USN (current B batch) series & want to do more stage races (possibly Joburg2C or Sani2C). I have done the 2 day Berg & Bush & I'm doing the Great Trek this year. I therefore need & want to step up my riding & go from 40km Trailseekers to 70 & from 30km USNs to 50. I'm therefore looking for a marathan/ XCO (not 100% sure of the difference) bike, not enduro etc. I am a Buffalo category (+-98kg) & 187cm tall if that helps with a view. I want the upgrade to be worth it & to be honest I want a good looking bike as well at that price, which I think they are. That is why I haven't added the Momsen Vipa 2 to the list as the yellow doesn't do it for me. I'm not a techie but detailed feedback will help. If not, then a ranking of 1 to 4 will also help. Advantage of the Scott is that I can trade in my current Scott at Cycle Lab who have already given me a value. I don't recall seeing the other brands there. Yes the value will be less than a private sale but it is instant, convenient in many ways & less chance of being scammed in the current world we live in. Other shops may do trade ins, I don't know, but this shouldn't be a deciding factor. Thanks!
  17. I bought a new Specialized Epic frame, which does not come with the SWAT kit. It has to be bought separately. You get tyre levers, bombs, two cages, a tube and inflator, multi-tool and chain breaker. I have been quoted R 2500 for the kit. I think this price is absolutely ridiculous ? Opinions?
  18. In 2015 Specialized announced the Turbo Levo, a range of electric pedal-assist trail bikes, and have since rolled out several variations. These include a women’s specific, a fat bike, a hardtail, a full suspension 29er, and a full-suspension 27.5-plus model which we spent last Friday afternoon riding at the spectacular Jonkershoek trails. UPDATE 18 September 2018: Specialized has launched a new Turbo Levo. Take a look at that bike here. Click here to view the article

  20. Hello Hubbers, I've been looking through the forums and can't seem to find a definitive answer to the problems I face. Sooo... Firstly Shoes... I have a budget of 2k for my shoes. I would really like something that has the boa system because i think its frikken awesome but please let me know if its any good. So basically what is a good shoe in the 2k range? Should I get something like a first ascent torque 2 or an flr f55 or something shimano... or should I save up and get the Specialized Expert? Have also seen the Fizik m5 boa, those are also cool, but again is it the best in this price range. I am leaning toward the Giro Cylinder because it has get boa system and it looks pretty awesome, but are the shoes good? So basically I'm just trying to find out whats a good brand to go with for quality and value for the money that I end up spending. Also, where are the good shops in Johannesburg that I can shop at for good deals? Secondly pedals, I want to ride trail as well as start doing some good distance on the road... I want to go clipless and I have found pedals for sale on the hub that I will get... I just want to know which is better between the Shimano m520 and the m530... Is the extra cage on the 530 better? Thank you, any advice will be greatly appreciated. Apologies for the essay
  21. There seem to be two distinct types of people, those who like Spez and those who hate "Spaz" (as it's often referred to) Perhaps there's a tiny percentage who are indifferent, but in general, I think, the above statement applies. and I want to know why? this comment in another thread about Scalpel vs Epic got me wondering again "Scalpel ..... whole bike is awesome, stick a good set of wheels on and ul have a 10 year plan bike, or u can jump on the spez train and dress urself from top to bottom in spez clothes and push ur bike up hills" No other bike brand, that I can think of, creates this reaction from people.
  22. Hi all, So I am not new to the Hub however this is my first forum post. So basically I cracked my S works Epic 2015 frame that i bought brand new in 2016. The crack is situated on the seat post collar and i first noticed it when i hear a strange noise going of a couple roots. On the 20th of December (a day after noticing the crack) i took the frame to my local spez store where i purchased the bike from. They were incredibly helpful in suggesting the steps to go about a warranty claim. Needless to say they sent my frame over to Capetown for specialized head office to take a look. I waited an entire month (after being told it will take 14 days) just for the frame to be assessed and confirmed for a crack. I received a run down of the crack and how it has happened on many other frames as a result of over tightening the seatpost clamp and that warranty would not be granted. This struck me because my bike was literally just back from a fitment (with spez store) where they obviously do everything with torque wrenches. So obviously i had something to say and my bike shop backed me up and sent a follow on email stating they handled the bike etc. Another month later I receive an email just stating that my frame is back and a warranty has not been granted? Im not sure if this is a common issue that anyone else has experienced but it has really left me stranded for options. Im not exactly where to go from here? I know carbon repairing is an option but this obviously brings with it lower value of bike etc. Do i have a reason to be upset by these decisions or is this common practice? Any suggestions on how to go about this would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards Mitch P.S I will try attach the spez review when i learn how.

  24. Roval is owned by Specialized and has been seen on their bikes for some years now. Roval is now trying to build towards becoming a more independent brand with a focus on also offering wheel options for aftermarket buyers. For 2017, Roval has refreshed many of their wheels and have released an all-new Control SL carbon wheelset that is lighter and wider than previous models. Take a look at the press release below for more information on the new Control SL wheelset and the rest of the 2017 range of Roval wheels. Click here to view the article
  25. With the Cape Town Cycle Tour looming, we have been giving our road bikes some love, and have taken the opportunity to test a range of road tyres from Specialized. We tested the Turbo Pro, Turbo Cotton, Roubaix Pro and All Condition Armadillo Elite tyres, each of which offer unique performance properties, to determine how best to kit out our road bikes for the type of riding we enjoy.
