  1. We managed to squeeze in some snaps of James's Specialized S-Works Epic Torch Edition between the time team mechanic JP Jacobs completed the build and James Reid picked up the bike before leaving for Rio. Click here to view the article
  2. The women’s Propero 2 is a mid-range road helmet from the wizards at Specialized. It is a more economical version of the top of the range Prevail helmet, and shares many of the fundamental features - including styling based on the 4th Dimension Cooling System with the Maserati-esque front vent (referred to by Specialized as the Megamouth port) and the Tri-Fix web splitter system for comfortable and easy strap adjustments. 5. In this episode of Trail Hunter, Matt Hunter gets irie in Jamaica. There won't be any lounging by the pool on this trip, though, because he's busy tearing up the countryside and volunteering with a local organization to get kids on their first bikes. Click here to view the article
  6. Hi, I wonder if someone could help me understand the difference between the year model specs of the Specialized Epic Expert 2015 vs the 2016 model. Thanks
  7. This bike was recovered by the SAPS in the Hermanus area. Pls contact w.o. Visagie on 0283135308 to reclaim.
  8. The Ambush marks Specialized’s entrance into the growing extended coverage trail and all-mountain helmet market. Such helmets are set the tough task of increasing protection whilst remaining light, comfortable, well ventilated and practical on the trail. Specialized have managed to tick all the boxes on their first attempt. Click here to view the article
  9. Is there anyone that can tell me what 26" frames can take a 142+ rear hub wheel? I've been trying to get the information from the internet and clearly my google skills are lacking in that department. All info I got was that it's a Specialized specific issue but can't see what bikes in the Specialized range. I bought a Roval Control SL Trail Carbon wheelset that has a 142+ rear hub, and I'm looking to maybe get a frame that would fit the wheels as it seems I might have difficulty selling the wheels.

  14. Looking at raising my handle bar height a bit higher but have no more space for spacers under the stem. Specialized seem to offer some nice Stems with different shaped spacers (see picture) that could provide a simple solution to my issue. Has anyone tried these stems or something similar from another manufacturer and have some useful feedback / tips? PS: I'm not looking for a discussion on frame size being to small etc... rather for a simple solution using a different stem that offers some options to play with.

  16. In this episode of Destination Trail, we follow Hannah Barnes and Miranda Miller as the pair ride the scorched wilderness of Stellenbosch, South Africa. A vast network of trails have existed here since the '90s, but after a massive fire scorched much of the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve in 2015, fresh funding has paved the way for even more singletrack. And today, this lemonade-out-of-lemons approach has rejuvenated existing trails and laid the groundwork for new ones, making the area a true destination for any mountain biker with a love for dusty red earth. 17. Specialized Bicycle Components looks to improve rider safety and eliminate counterfeit products available for consumer purchase. As the Internet shopping realm continues to grow, so does the opportunity for low-cost, counterfeit products. Although the low-cost purchase opportunities may sound like a bargain up front, purchasing a product that isn't tested to industry standards is not worth the risk. Click here to view the article
  18. Im looking at a 2009 Specialized SX trail, where any sx trails imported? thanks
  19. Has anyone done this? I was contemplating buying a set of Specialized Grid casing tires to run on Stans Flow EX rims (current model), then I came across this little bit of info on the web: " Not Recommend Tires WTB TCS and UST 29 inch tires are too tight for Stan's Notubes rims and NoTubes licensed rims such as Sun Ringle Black Flag. Specialized Grid UST Tires are very tight on Stan's Rims. *Use of sealant in non-tubeless tires may void the tires manufacturer’s warranty. " (off Stans own website) So now I'm a bit skeptical as to whether or not this setup is a good idea or not. I know I could choose from a bunch of other strong casing tires that won't pose a problem, but in my experience the Spez tires are pretty decent and, more importantly, are actually quite cheap compared to most other brands. Anyhow, if this is going to send the tire levers flying into my eyeballs I'd rather go a different route.
  20. This year leading lady Ariane Kleinhans is riding on the female specific Specialized Era after riding the men's variant for some time. The key difference compared to the brother bike, the Epic, lies in the frame geometry and contact points. The Era features a lower standover height and shorter reach, said to provide a better fit for many ladies. Click here to view the article
  21. We are looking at new bikes. Fortunately been able to test ride the 2014 Specialized Expert 29er with carbon wheels, as well as the single chain ring on one of them. Absolutely awesome fun fast easy ride! Loved it. Specialized are great regarding offering test bikes. But the new Scott SL is at least 1.5 kg lighter (under 10kg), and its strong. (We've been riding 26" Scott Sparks. Did Epic on them 2010. Love them.) Anyone riding the 2014 Scott Spark 900 SL, that can give us some info on the ride? Anyone ridden both these mentioned Specialized and Scott 29ers who can give some advice on the differences or similarities? Real pain that Scott dont offer test bikes. Specialized say its not 'just' the brain that offers the great ride, its also their geometry. Any comments please? Thanks!
  22. The Specialized Epic is quite likely the defacto bike of choice at the Absa Cape Epic. We've seen countless examples of Specialized's cross-country racer this year, but this particular bike is quite special. Christoph Sauser's Epic S-Works is decked out in a custom Investec Songo Specialized paint strip. Something about the Investec zebra black, white and silver all fits quite nicely. And somewhat ironically, even in retirement Sauser still dons a zebra jersey, albeit of a different sort to that of his Epics past. Click here to view the article
  23. In this episode of Destination Trail, we follow Troy Brosnan to the remote island wilderness of Derby, Tasmania. Jungles, pine forests, dry, rocky river beds—this corner of the world checks all of the terrain and flora boxes, and with only a handful of cafes and pubs to keep the isolated locals occupied, an epic trail network seemed like a natural progression. Join Troy and Specialized Australia employee, Patrick Young, as they leave the stress of the professional DH circuit behind in pursuit of loose singletrack, insights into trail building, and all-around good times. 24. Hannah Barnes lives the mountain biker's dream. She competes in events like the Enduro World Series but in between she travels the world taking on adventurous races and exploring trails, all in the name of fun. Hannah recently visited Stellenbosch to shoot to film the latest episode in the Destination Trail series at Jonkershoek. We sat down with Hannah to find out how she managed the great mountain bike swindle. Click here to view the article
