  1. I, a semi-pro athlete (37), want to fill an open spot in a team. My partner got lost. The entry/sponsoring was connected to him. Don't mind to race competitive or not. I trained well for EPIC one year. Now I'm just glad if I can ride. Unfortunately I only can do a sponsored entry. Daniel 063/5561828
  2. Sven Nys is arguably the best cyclocross racer ever. Now the legendary Belgian – who earned the nickname “The Cannibal from Baal” as he notched up an astonishing 140 career victories – has set his sights on the 2017 Absa Cape Epic. Click here to view the article
  3. The 2017 Absa Cape Epic sports the strongest men’s field in the 14-year history of the race, with up to six teams aiming for the top step of the podium. Several years of a special focus on the women’s race has born fruit in recent editions: the standard of the field has steadily got stronger and the racing more exciting. The trend continues in 2017 and the racing is bound to be thrilling as a number of the world’s top marathon racers pit themselves against one another. Click here to view the article
  4. Philip Buys and Matthys Beukes form the “African MTB team” PYGA Euro Steel. Previously teammates riding as Scott LCB Factory Racing, 2017 sees them with new sponsors, and of course new bikes. The pair have a solid track record riding together, and have their eyes firmly on the Absa African jersey at this year’s Cape Epic, as well as on an overall podium spot. We caught up with them to check in on their race preparation, find out more about their plans for 2017, and of course their new bikes. Click here to view the article

I am mid pack material at best. I go uphill well but technical descending is not my strong point. I have done several mountain bike stage races since 2014 including Yak Attack, Brec Epic, BC Bike Race, Sudety Mountain Bike Challenge (Poland), Alpac Attack and Titan Desert. I'm more than willing to pay my 50%. Please e-mail me at: chrismaund@gmail.com

  10. I'm looking for a partner to join the 2017 Cape Epic. Share 50% of the entry and other costs. Aiming to likely finish in the top half of the field. If you feel prepared for this year's ride and have descent MTB skills contact me if you're interested. Any previous Epic, multi-day MTB stage race results and perhaps your strava profile would be helpful.

  14. So it's a month away, I can't actually believe it. So let me jump into this quickly. My partner and I have not booked a mechanic / service package. What is your take on that? Also, I'm considering the nutrition package. Anybody done it before? Is it worth it or a novelty? Cheers, A blisfully ignorant first time Epic rider.
  15. We're first timers for Cape Epic, and I read in another post that many suggested to get a 'service package' - and I understood it like a package that someone will then take care of you bike (beside the washing already offered by the organizers) I can see a personal nutrition package in the store...but not a 'service package' Could anyone pleas tell me if you can arrange for someone to take care of your bike...like oil, break pads, chain etc? Thanks Bo & Carsten from Denmark

  21. What is the general consensus.....should you take malaria protection for Cape Epic???
  22. I was invited to for part of the ABSA pride for the Cape Epic 2017. I immediately started training with a coach in September 2016 and put in a lot of hard work over the past 5 months. My base training for the Epic started in December and I did 2200km in December. I then ramped up the intensity in the second week of January with interval training. I went down for my first Attakwas which I finished very well in 6h11. Last weekend I had a golf tour on the south coast of KZN. We played at southbroom on the Friday morning after which we headed to the beach. We were throwing a ball to each other and the one throw just drifted over my head. I turned around to catch it and in the process I stepped into a hole of about 20cm deep with my left leg. The leg hyperextended and I immediately knew that I hurt something. What is it and how bad is it was my first thought. We headed to the hospital as my calf was swollen up about 3 times its normal size. The initial prognosis was that I most likely tore my calf but I should be okay to at least get to the start line. The next morning X-rays was taken of my knee and a sonar of my calf. When the results came back my Cape Epic dream was broken as was my Tibial Plateau. I tore my calf muscle quite badly as well. I am getting an MRI tomorrow with surgery to sort out my knee on Friday. There is always 2018, and I will come back stronger!!! It just sucks after all the hard work that something so silly can cause such big damage.
  23. Hello, I am searching for a partner to race Cape Epic 2017. I just got my invite and have now 10 days left for confirmation. I am from southern Germany, 36 years old and doing mountain biking for about 20 years. I do 3.5 watts/kg at my FTP and I am usually finishing marathon races in the middle of the pack. I have no sponsors so you would have to cover your half or bring a sponsor. I hope to hear from you. Regards sholst
