  1. Okay so I see there is no topic on this world tour race that began on Sunday in Switzerland. There are big names on show including Sagan, Cancellara, Visconti, Costa, Schleck, Voigt, Boonen, Hesjedal, Pinot, Gilbert, Van Garderen and our very own Impey. The favourates must surely be Van Garderen and Hesjedal. Stage 1 was an Individual TT / Prologue that was won by Cameron Meyer the Aussie from Orica-GreenEDGE. Stage 2, stage two was a mountainous stage won by Bauke Mollema the Dutch rider from Team Blanco. Stage 3 is also fairly "bumpy" (an intermediate stage). Perhaps one for the breakaway but with the overall time gaps being rather small there is a good chance the peloton won't let any breakaways get too far up the road. The current GC is as follows: 1 Cameron Meyer (AUS) - Orica-GreenEDGE 2 Ryder Hesjedal (CAN) - Garmin-Sharp + 3" 3 Mathias Frank (SUI) - BMC + 5" 4 Giovanni Visconti (ITA) - Movistar + 12" 5 Thibaut Pinot (FRA) - FDJ + 16"

  3. Alessandro Ballan (BMC) was descending the Coll de Rates, north of Benidorm on Thursday when he crashed at high-speed leaving him with a broken leg, broken rib and an injured spleen. According to BMC Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Max Testa, the Italian will require two separate surgeries with the removal of Ballan's spleen the most urgent. Ballan was taken to hospital by team doctor Dario Spinelli where he was found to have suffered a mid-shaft, displaced fracture of his left femur, a fracture of his ninth rib and some abdominal trauma. "The broken rib actually made a small puncture in his lung," Dr. Testa said. "The first priority is the spleen injury - that is considered a medical emergency." http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/emergency-surgery-for-ballan-after-high-speed-crash
  4. The technical, rocky battles between Ariane Kleinhans (RE:CM) and Candice Neethling (BMC) promise to be a definite highlight of the MTN National MTB Series. Click here to view the article

The legendary mountain bike stage race, now in its tenth year, will take place from 17 to 24 March. 6. disclaimer: not nearly as impressive as they guy building a carbon frame at home, http://www.thehubsa....le-speed-build/ anyways decided that since I have had this bike for 3 years which is a record in my books it was time for some new clothes, decided to strip it myself and see what the raw look would be like first The beginning....creme and custard.....getting tired http://i774.photobucket.com/albums/yy25/rock78pics/GT%20Strip/CapeTown-20121105-00415.jpg add some Removall http://i774.photobucket.com/albums/yy25/rock78pics/GT%20Strip/CapeTown-20121106-00431.jpg and nearly all off http://i774.photobucket.com/albums/yy25/rock78pics/GT%20Strip/CapeTown-20121107-00437.jpg then decided to but all back together, took of all of 10 minutes thanks to a proper stand (don't what I've been doing all these years without one) http://i774.photobucket.com/albums/yy25/rock78pics/GT%20Strip/IMG-20121109-00446.jpg then decided some new paint is needed. 7. need some advise about 2012 BMC fourstroke FS02 "26" bike carbon main frame Alloy swing arm XT/SLX Heard they retail for R 30 000.Clearance sale for R19 000. Good deal or not? Thanks Johan
  8. I have noticed that the two top pivot bearings become loose during rides and I have to tighten them after almost every ride. Fortunately the BMC has a very stiff frame setup so it doesn't result in flex / play, but I would like to know if this is normal and what I can do to fix it if it's not normal?

  12. The Team Bonitas rider clocked a winning time of 02 hours 20 minutes 08 seconds and was followed home by Eritrean star Jani Tewelde (MTN Qhubeka), with his Team Bonitas teammates HB Kruger and Jason Bakke claiming third and fourth places respectively and Sean-Nick Bester (Westvaal BMC) rounding out the top five. It’s the first time 25-year-old Rabie has won one of the country’s three big ‘Classics’ and it confirms his development into a true allrounder, following his 2012 successes in stage races and individual time trials. Johann Rabie claimed his first win in the country's oldest road cycling 'Classic' the Durban Amashova Classic, on Sunday. Photo credit: Dominic Barndardt But Sunday’s win wasn’t only a matter of perfect timing for Rabie; it required a large dollop of tact as Team Bonitas only had three riders in the 18-rider breakaway group whereas archrival outfit, MTN Qhubeka, had six. “We had to ride smart – chase down moves that needed chasing down, leave others that didn’t seem promising and let the other teams do their share of the work too. With six riders in the break, MTN Qhubeka ended up doing a lot of the controlling which put them under more pressure than us. “I told Jason (Bakke) and HB (Kruger) that I was feeling good and was confident I could challenge for the win from this group. So they committed themselves completely to me and still both ended up in the top four. A good day for our team today,” smiled Rabie. The race started with the usual long ascent of Fox Hill out of the city of Pietermaritzburg. With a fairly sedate early pace, a move went clear just before the first King of the Mountain prime comprising six riders. Unhappy with the composition of that break and no doubt warmed up after the ascent, the peloton became restless and an increase in pace saw the break reeled in, followed immediately by a counter attack as 10 riders went clear with 22km completed. By Camperdown (27km) the lead group had swelled to 18, comprising riders from all of the major teams, which saw a content peloton tap off and the lead grow rapidly, reaching more than eight minutes by the finish. “We tried to thin the group out a bit up the Inchanga climb (46km) by pushing the pace, but it’s wasn’t steep enough, nor long enough and the bunch stayed together over the top,” explained Rabie. Dylan Girdlestone (Westvaal BMC) made the most of the twisty descents through Hillcrest, Kloof and Pinetown to escape on his own for 15km. But with 10km remaining his courageous effort was extinguished by a bristling MTN Qhubeka-led pack readying for the final drop into Durban. “There were plenty of attacks and counter-attacks in the last 10km. It was a very aggressive, positive race with such a variety of teams in the front group,” said Rabie. “Jason and HB were chasing down moves to try and keep it together for a sprint as were the MTN Qhubeka riders, who seemed to working for Jani (Tewelde). In the final few hundred metres, Kruger integrated himself into the MTN Qhubeka leadout train, while Bakke created a leadout wheel for Rabie. “The MTN guys seemed to go a bit too soon. We’d checked out the finish properly before the race and I knew that I needed to start my sprint later if I was going to last to the line. It worked out perfectly. We timed it just right.” In the women’s race Robyn de Groot (Momentum Toyota) claimed the coveted title. Marissa Stander and Ashleigh Moolman Pasio (Momentum Toyota) were second and third respectively. 13. In Parys, on Saturday (13 October), Kevin Evans (Nedbank360Life) won the Ride Crater Cruise for an unprecedented fourth time consecutively. His winning time was 3 hours 27 minutes and 21 seconds. James Reid (Nedbank360Life) was second (3:27:45) and Neil MacDonald (RE:CM) third (3:27:48). This was actually my fifth victory,” said Evans. “Remember the year when the race was neutralized because of a locked farm gate and seven riders were declared the combined winners. I was one of the seven.” Moments after finishing, Evans admitted that his ‘fifth’ Ride Crater Cruise victory was certainly his hardest. “This time I really had to dig deep to win.” Photo: Zoon Cronje - www.zcmc.co.za However, those who watched the race unfold may have different opinions. They were impressed by the way in which Evans made his winning move at exactly the same spot as in preceding years, namely at a bridge about 12 kilometres from the finish. Evans said: “There was a lot of ‘firepower’ in the breakaway group. I attacked earlier on, but was chased down and then had to do a rethink. When we came to the bridge, I decided to put all my energy into one huge effort and to make it count. Luckily for me it worked.” Nico Bell (Westvaal Columbia), who finished sixth, said that the moment Evans attacked, the rest of them were put into a classic checkmate situation. “David George and James Reid (Nedbank360Life) were both in our group and this put us in a difficult situation. "If the rest of us should have decided to chase Kevin down, we would have given the two of them a free ride. If we were to catch up with Kevin one of them, or both, could immediately launch a counter attack. Photo: Zoon Cronje - www.zcmc.co.za “That was the reason why nobody really put in a big effort to give chase to Kevin.” Reid’s second-place finish was the big surprise of the day. Even though this was only the second time that the 19-year-old competed in an ultra-marathon, he rode like a seasoned professional. Reid and Lourens Luus (Valencia) had won the Three Towers stage race the weekend before. “That certainly counted in my favour because it served as a good, hard three-day training camp,” said Reid. According to Reid the racing in the Ride Crater Cruise was not as hard as he had expected. “During the first two hours the racing was not very serious and the last 90 minutes of racing felt like an intense cross-country race, which suited me fine. I just bided my time. When I was sure that Kevin had a commanding lead I attacked and, to my surprise, I managed to open a gap.” Despite his success, Reid said that, at least for the foreseeable future, he will not compete in many ultra-marathons. “At least for the next two years cross-country racing will remain my top focus. My main goal will be to win a medal in the u.23 category of the World Championship. “Another goal for me will be to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.” Photo: Zoon Cronje - www.zcmc.co.za MTN Ride Crater Cruise 2012 Leading results Men: 1 Kevin Evans (Nedbank 360Life) 03hr27min21sec 2 James Reid (Nedbank 360Life) 3:27:45 3 Neil MacDonald (Team RE:CM) 3:27:48 4 David George (Nedbank 360Life) 3:27:49 5 Adrien Niyonshuti (MTN Qhubeka) 3:27:50 6 Nico Bell (Westvaal Columbia) 3:27:56 7 Lourens Luus (Valeria) 3:27:58 8 Jacques Janse van Rensburg (MTN Qhubeka) 3:29:27 9 Philip Buys (USN Spike) 3:30:50 10 Melt Swanepoel (Squirt Lube Merida) 3:31:02 Women: 1 Theresa Ralph 3:48:47 2 Yolandi du Toit (bizhub FCF) 3:50:51 3 Candice Neethling (BMC South Africa) 4:00:00 4 Amy McDougall (Ghost Bryton) 4:03:55 5 Karien van Jaarsveld (MTN Qhubeka) 4:08:39 For full results and more info visit www.advendurance.com Click here to view the article
