  1. 11-year-old, Dutch born, South African based, champion in the making, Ike Klaassen just came back from his 2015 Eurotrip where he became the under 13 Downhill Champion. We caught up with Ike to find out a bit more about this young pinner as he took us around his very own personal DH track, on their farm just outside Stellenbosch. Click here to view the article

  5. The 2015 UCI Mountain Bike Masters World Championships took place at Pal ski station, Vallnord (Andorra) from the 23-27 August. Seven downhill riders from South Africa descended upon the 2,5km track and arrived at the bottom of the track with three medals to take home. Click here to view the article
  6. In this mini documentary we follow Greg Minnaar, South African downhill legend, in his quest for his fourth rainbow jersey. He knows how to win it, he knows how to put it all together in the final run. It's his specialty. But can he do it again in Vallnord, Andorra, during the 2015 World Championships? 7. To all Enduro, Downhill and Trail riders out there: We have built some amazing trails in the Agatha forest in Tzaneen (Limpopo). Many different lines and obstacles for everyone to test their skills. The trails can be enjoyed with anything from a hardtail (B-lines are present where needed) to a full-on DH rig! At the moment, we can have 2 special stages of +/- 4 minutes each. A few parts will be common to both, but they will be mostly different. We are planning to hold an Enduro event this year, having 2 runs on each stage and using all 4 times to determine the winner. It will take place on the week-end of the 20-21 June. Practice Saturday 20/06 P.M and racing Sunday 21/06. More to follow!!!
  8. Registration took place on Sunday, which resulted in a rather frantic dash around trying to get our international racing licenses printed. Somehow Mark, Cobus and I had not put two and two together, and the angry man and bewildered young lady at the registration table managed to firmly tell us that showing a picture of it on our phones was not good enough. Note to self: if the CSA say “should you wish to have this licence printed you need to pay another R30 etc etc…” just make the effort to pay the extra R30 and the courier fee. Honestly, it’s not worth being scolded in French, Spanish, Catalan and English… Originally published on southafricansgoingdowhill. Follow the riders as they conquer the World Championships here. 10. South African downhill hero, Greg Minnaar claimed the fourth overall spot despite coming off his bike in the last round of the 2015 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup presented by Shimano in Val di Sole, Italy on Saturday 22 August 2015. Click here to view the article
  11. After a year’s break, the resort in Trentino returns to the UCI World Cup calendar in 2015. It will be the final round, and therefore decisive for the XCO and DHI rankings. It will also enable the riders to put the finishing touches to their preparation for the UCI World Championships one week later. Host of the Worlds in 2008, Val di Sole will again organise the World Championships for Downhill in 2016. Click here to view the article
  12. The Val di Sole track in Italy is a brutally technical maiden. Packed with slippery roots and plenty of rocks, it drops steeply through the forest into the valley floor. The 2,200m long course has had a facelift for 2015, with more line choices and northshore added to the classic track. Click here to view the article
  13. After more than one month of absence, the iXS European Downhill Cup finally returned with another race. The second but last race of the season invited 300 riders from 25 different countries to Spicak (Czech Republic). Johannes Fischbach and Veronika Widmann are the winners of an exciting weekend. 14. Hello fellow mountain bikers. I have read though many, MANY threads regarding mountain bike tyres, yet I am just as confused as before. In fact, I am probably more confused than ever before. What I have concluded is that its 50% preference, and 50% required riding type (terrain). With having said that, I am in search of advice for selecting the most appropriate tyres for me specifically. I live in Cape Town, and I ride mostly single track. I am 25, and weigh approximately 75kg (185cm tall). I am not a pro (no duh...), but I like to think I go pretty quickly down the single tracks, although I only started riding last year November. I ride a Large 2014 Giant Trance 02, which has a 650B 27.5" wheel-set. PLEASE NOTE: I am looking for Maxxis tyre options and combinations ONLY! If you are going to contribute to this thread, please comment with a combination of both front AND rear tyre options, rather than saying things like "aah, why Maxxis?", or "Continental is much better!" etc etc etc. I have used Continental's on my previous bike, and I am wanting to try out Maxxis tyres in particular, so please just accept that, and give me constructive advice... If any. Thank you in advance to those who find the time to give me genuine options and combinations Here is a photo of my exact bike below:

  18. The Canadian round has gone hand in hand with the UCI MTB World Cup since 1991. This year it celebrates the organisation of its 25th UCI event. Hosting a combined XCO/DHI event in August, Mont-Sainte-Anne comes before another North American round, Windham. Situated in Quebec, one of the “Sommets de Saint Laurent”, the Queen of the World Cup deserves its reputation as a Mecca of mountain bike. Click here to view the article

  21. Winter has delivered so many gorgeous days this year, but when it decides to rain... it POURS! Friday was one of those days & DH racing was not sounding like the best of ideas, the roads became rivers & the freshly burnt pine plantations had turned into a mush of mud & ash. A few riders braved the storm & got a few runs in, but my window weather report was not making photography a look like a good idea. The online reports were showing clear all day Saturday & Sunday, but on Friday that felt very far fetched, especially in a valley that has some of the highest recorded rainfall in the country. 24. Has anyone ridden at Didingwe river lodge (Limpopo) had the pleasure of riding this past weekend, tough real hard work but some of the best trails I've ever played on. quite a drive from JHb 3hrs but after the weekend of riding definitely think it was well worth it. guess my question in this is simple anyone ridden there? and if so opinion on the trails? Thanks
  25. I'm currently on the look for a full face helmet for downhill. The only real downhill helmet I've looked at is the Specialized Dissident at Helderberg Cycles in Somerset West, but they are currently out of stock and its a bit above my price range. I've looked at a few Fox motocross helmets at some motorcycle shops(everyone pretty much only has Fox helmets) and unfortunately I haven't been able to find anything that fits, is in stock and is in my price range. So does anyone know of a store that might have stock of some helmets(downhill or MX), I need to have it by Sunday morning. I'm from Strand but I don't mind driving to Cape Town tomorrow(Saturday) to pick something up. My budget is around R1100. I'm a size XL is anyone wants to know. Cheers
