  1. Whatsup Hubbers... So I'm almost ready to start assembling a bike which I have been spending more than 3 months getting all the parts together, I am buying some tools extra for the job but I don;t think buying Torque Wrenches are in my budget at the moment... Eventually yes... But not right now. Is there anyone on here who is willing to lend or rent their torque wrenches to me for complete assembly of my bike? I'm in Pretoria, Menlo Park. Coffee / Beer / Burgers are on the cards for payment, also! Thanx in advance!
  2. So i have officially entered my first gravity even and i couldn't be more excited!!!! Any advice for my first enduro race? Whats the bear minimum spares i should take? Any help would be great TIA
  3. *EDIT* Updated the title to reflect more accurately, original Thread article can be found below. Kzn Gravity includes the following disciplines: Enduro, Gravity and Downhill. -- ORIGINAL: Yesterday marked the first KZN Gravity committee meeting. Anyone and everyone was welcome at Giba Gorge to discuss what 2018 meant for all disciplines that fall under the Gravity banner. The first big subject discussed: KZN MTB will no longer be supporting any Gravity style races at all. That's the bad news. KZN MTB have stated that they will be focusing on XC style as well as Gravel races. The good news? Well, there might be some, but it's going to be a very tough year for Downhill and enduro events held in KZN. KZN MTB put some funds aside for all Gravity based racing and gave it to some people to manage as a budget. So with that a new group has emerged: KZN Gravity. Anyone want to know more?
  4. I am currently working on a project to map South African trails I will be including strava segments as well as google maps coordinates to make them easier to find. Let me know if you have any suggestions of where to ride next! Let's map as much as we can and get more people on the trails!
  5. The KZN Gravity MTB Commission is delighted to announce a partnership with Greg Minnaar (GM) Cycles for 2018, which will see the Pietermaritzburg-based bicycle shop become the official Title Sponsor for the KZN Gravity Series. The 2018 Greg Minnaar Cycles Gravity Series includes 3 Provincial Cup Series rounds, and a stand-alone KZN Championships event. Furthermore, the partnership includes sponsorship of the third round of the National Cup Series Downhill to be held at Cascades Bike park on the 28th and 29th April in conjunction with the 2nd round of the Regional series. https://www.pinkbike.com/news/greg-minnaar-cycles-official-2018-title-sponsor-for-local-south-african-series.html ----------------- AND ...... There has been an E-Bike class added to the Enduro Discipline ...
  6. Can anyone give me an idea of typical (if such a thing exists) SA enduro race stats? Total distance? Total climbing / descending? Average stage distance and drop? Longest and shortest stage distance and drop? Total combined stage distance? Number of stages? Average time spent on stages and total in the saddle? What about some of the easier or harder ones? Would it be normal to have some portage / hike-a-bike in there, or does that only happen with hard ones like Ezel? I realise there’s probably a lot of variation, and the numbers can mean different things depending on the terrain. I’ve never raced an enduro, but I’m keen to try and organise a few here in Zim. I’d like to know what we need to do for it to be comparable to events elsewhere. I’ll probably try to have an easy and a hard option at each venue, but I really don’t know if there will be any takers. It’ll still be fun out on the bike for me, even if I’m the only one, so no harm in trying! Any advice from event organisers or participants would be appreciated.
  7. So the name says enough! I'm Still building my Lux CF and will post as soon as the Shimano XT 2 x 11 is fitted Here is my frame
  8. So I bought a set of M675 SLX brakes after reading rave reviews about them. I have been very impressed with them, they are easy to use, have great stopping power and fit well with my XT 1x11 setup. I have the option to pt on some Sram Guide RS brakes. Why? Because I can. I ride mostly enduro type riding, so a lot of downhill and technical type stuff. I am led to believe the Guides have better feel/modulation to them and they are just as powerful as the SLX. The main difference is the brake fluid being used between the 2. My main reason for considering the change is heat build up and brake fade when things get hot. Does anyone here have experience with these 2 setups and can comment on which is the better for enduro?
  9. I have been toying with the idea of getting myself a pair of goggles for All mountain riding and possibly to be used with my half lid at the Enduro events. Had my first ride in the wet last weekend and boy! my face and shades was covered in SPLAT... Also, hitting 60km/hr on two occasions at enduro events, had my eyes watery behind the shades. Enough said, i think this is more than enough motivation to consider getting pimp'd with some awesome looking stuffs. Was roaming about and these tickled my fancy: Fox AIRSPC goggles 100% Accuri Von Zipper Bushwick XT These Three above are pretty much in the same price range. Performance wise... i cannot comment though. Keen to hear what you guys think... to goggles or not to goggles? haha better yet lets see yours!?!
  10. Hi fellow hubbers, I am looking at purchasing a "new" bike to be used predominantly enduro racing. Currently riding an old trance advanced 2 and finding new parts become an issue and the bike is becoming limiting. What bike would you buy and why? TIA
  11. I’m based in Harare, Zimbabwe. I’m thinking of trying to organise a couple of enduro races. I don’t think it’s been done here before, and I don’t think anyone really knows about the discipline, which is one reason I’m keen to get it started. Unfortunately we don’t have any trail centres or suitable trails on private land, though there is lots of great natural stuff around, and I’ve scouted out lots of good stage options. Being limited to public land and without much of a budget or manpower, I’m wondering about how we could do the timing. We might not really be able to mark the route reliably (some course tape was moved on a recent XC race I organised), and I don’t want to leave any valuable timing equipment unattended. It’ll have to be very low-key to start with, so I’m thinking about just using Strava for timing. Lots of the rides here require riders to have a GPS, and even those who don’t should have a smart phone capable of running Strava. Does anyone with experience in this kind of thing have any ideas? Are there any platforms that could analyse riders’ GPS tracks in a similar way to Strava, making sure they stayed on course, but without users having to create a Strava account? Or any reasonably-priced timing devices that we could use? I suppose with enough manpower we could just position marshals with stop-watches at the beginning and end of each stage, but I’m doubtful that I’d be able to recruit enough volunteers willing to trek that far out into the bush… Any suggestions from others who have run events like this would be appreciated!

  19. The first event is to be held on 12 February 2017, at St Ives. The venue has been used in the series for the last two years and located close to Lion's River in the KZN Midlands. A new format is being adopted for the KZN DH & Enduro series, where by both races will be held on Sunday, giving participants the whole of Saturday to familiarize themselves with the stages and the DH track. We'll have to wait and see how the new format pans out... Hope to see you all there! 20. So, after about 8 years off the bike I am back riding again. I'm trying to get fit for a couple of MTB marathon races but I miss the days of competing in DH events. Well, I am perhaps to old for that now but I do enjoy the technical riding. It seems I have a riding partner who is in the same boat as I am and we would like to get into the enduro scene. The question is..... will a 2013 scott genius710 be good enough for enduros? The fox 34 is very stiff and 160mm of travel should be enough? I took the bike for a spin and it felt very similar to the GT DHI(pre-fury) I had. It also feels a lot more capable than the GT Lobo I had which was sorry is the best bike I ever rode. I do have a budget constraint and that's why i'm looking at older bikes in good condition. Hopefully the guys in the enduro scene will be able to help me out
  21. Hey Guys So I have an old Specialized MTB helmet that fits great and is going to be used for road use (for now). I want to start doing Enduro events here in the Western Cape and would like a helmet with more coverage. I tried on a Bell Stoker (my heads 59cm) in a Medium very strange fit compared to my helmet I have now and a Giro was very narrow i found. Cant find a Bell Super 2r Mips anywhere in CT to try on and have read the forum about stockists not thinking they would sell here. Does anyone here have one? Medium is 55-59cm and large 58-62cm. (Im 59cm) Would want a medium could always pay to post it back and swap online but trying to avoid that. Think Large will be like a fish bowl and don't like that top heavy sort of look. Would be great if I could try them on but cant. If anyone has one let me know how the MIPS ones fit? Maybe a similar style bell here in CT i could try for size? OR should I rather go for a helmet here I can try on? Have not done any Enduro events not sure if guys just all wear XC/ALL Mountain type helmets and not full face anyways. Reason I would like the full face is some added protection (even if not DHrated) as i start getting better and practicing more advanced routes.
