  1. Which would you pick between the two? Any pros/cons.
  2. I am in the market for a bike computer, I have been deliberating between the Garmin Edge 530 and the Wahoo Elemnt Roam for quite some time now. This is more of a question on Wahoo South Africa's pricing than opinions between which is better (I am however still open to suggestions!) In South Africa, the Edge 530 (*listed at R6000) is nearly R2000 cheaper than the Element Roam (listed at R7999), fine. When observing UK prices. the Garmin Edge comes in at R5499 (at a R21.15 - GBP exchange rate), making it an 8% price increase in SA to UK. The Element Roam is listed at R6345 in the UK (again, at a R21.15 - GBP exchange rate), making it a 21% more expensive on the SA shelves. The Bolt, listed at R5499 here in SA, is priced at R3912 in the UK (difference of 29%). Long story short, why does Wahoo have higher markup prices when comparing SA to UK than Garmin? Would it be because Garmin has a greater presence in the country and therefore able to turn more stock over? Just found it interesting more than a complaint. *Just wanted to note that prices were taken from official website listings - the Garmin unit however is listed at R6949 on their official website - but have only seen it listed at R6000 on most of the popular sites.
  3. After hosting two successful Versus Virtual Runs in the past three months, it is time to step into the virtual cycling space. With over 14,000 participants in the first virtual run and 16,000 participants in our second, we are expecting some 10,000 cyclists to get out on their bikes on 25 July. 4. Garmin today announced the expansion of its solar charging technology to its Instinct, fēnix 6 and 6S and tactix Delta adventure and multisport smartwatches. Building on the success of Garmin’s the first solar charging multisport watch, the fēnix 6X - Pro Solar, these new solar editions allow customers to “Do What They Love Longer” through significantly increased battery life and new purpose-built functionality including surf, mountain biking and climbing activities. 5. Garmin have quietly introduced the successors to the Edge 520 and 820 GPS units, with the new devices boasting Garmin's new ClimbPro feature in smaller and lighter packages... https://road.cc/content/tech-news/259675-garmin-launch-edge-530-and-830-gps-units?fbclid=IwAR3gary3LcSok7pt-yxtC-r9GjRavJWj-LVAVoo4BSPGBjPzK9gkDLACWb4

Garmin announces new Forerunners with incident detection, music, and menstrual cycle tracking https://www.zdnet.com/article/garmin-announces-new-forerunners-with-incident-detection-music-and-menstrual-cycle-tracking/ Garmin 945 https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2019/04/garmin-forerunner-945-multisport-watch-in-depth-review.html Garmin 245 https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2019/04/garmin-forerunner-245-music-gps-watch-in-depth-review.html Garmin 45 https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2019/04/garmin-forerunner-45-45s-gps-watch-in-depth-review.html
  7. This looks like a very interesting concept. A cycling computer based on Android, the usual lot of functions, proper navigation, etc. Maybe a good candidate to rattle the cage a little bit I am not going to repeat all the details here. Below is the link to the website and a Preview by DC Rainmaker. What are your thoughts? https://www.hammerhead.io/pages/karoo
  8. Hi there, Lately the battery life of my Edge 520 started to decrease. I probably get about 4-6h at the moment before the low battery warning pops up. So I hopped onto the RSA website of Garmin to inquire for help. "Can the internal battery be replaced and what is the cost for this?". The SA website then sent me to the US site for the service request. The response was that my unit is out of warranty ( I know that) and that the 'repair' would be about 99US$. This does not feel reasonable. Did anybody go through a battery replacement before?
  9. Garmin Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd., introduces the new vívosmart HR, a touchscreen activity tracker with Garmin wrist based heart rate technology called, Elevate wrist heart rate and a comprehensive range of smart notification capabilities. The vívosmart HR features a large sunlight readable display that remains switched on and in addition to heart rate monitoring, the vívosmart HR counts floors climbed and measures activity intensity. 10. The coating covering the optical HR sensor on my Fenix 3 HR Sapphire is cracking and already gone in places. I sent it in to Garmin and got the following response: "We continue to evaluate reports of cracked HR sensors on our watches. The cracks are cosmetic and watches we’ve tested continue to operate normally. Cracks do not affect the water rating. Since the cracks are on the back of the watch, not visible during use, and do not affect performance, replacement or repair is not necessary." Any one else experience this problem?
  11. So I have been riding with my Garmin Fenix 3HR for some nearly 2 years and have recently purchased a chest strap for more accurate HR data. I haven't used the navigation much, other than a local training ride with waypoints and turn by turn navigation. The battery drop seems reasonable. But we are training for the Trans Baviaans this year, and I was wondering if anyone has experience with the battery life of a Garmin Fenix watch (preferably a Fenix 3HR) using it for navigation and HR data during the event. Since it is a long event and battery on the watch is limited. Lets say we are aiming for anything below 15 hours to be safe battery wise. I have tried the Ultra Track mode, but I found this to be pointless, since it is not very accurate. I would rather ride without than have data that's misleading.
  12. Hi All, Quick question or some advise....looking to buy either of the following watches. Garmin Fenix 5 or Garmin Forerunner 935 Which one do you think is the better option and for what reason? Price is very similar so more looking at which is the better option. Thanks guys
  13. So the EGDE 130 was promised at 169 GBP, which comes to about R2843. But then Garmin SA decides to pop in into a bundle and voila, we sit at R4300, not the value proposition I was hoping for...
  14. Hi all, For the last couple of months I've been having trouble with the LiveTrack function on my devices (520 and 935). The LiveTrack session "starts", but sometimes stops unexpectedly with resuming or ending the session without the activity being ended. Who else has had something similar happen to them? Using a Samsung S9 on MTN, latest software on all hardware.
  15. Hi, Can one use the HRM from this bundle with lets say a fenix or 935? Ie could you swim and run with it and will it give you the same metrics?
  16. Good evening folks! To those who own a Vivoactive 3, has anyone managed to solve the disconnection from phone issue when you exit the GC app? Seems like a common issue, even some Edge 1030 users suffer the same frustrations. Brand new Garmin, Huawei P10 Lite, newest version of GC and Express. All Permissions granted on GC, Huawei phone settings and device. Thanks!!
  17. Morning Hubbers, I'm keen to try touring rides in 2019 but I love having a Garmin as a backup for navigation. My Garmin 520 has, shall we say, suggestive navigation. https://www.starbike.com/en/garmin-edge-explore-incl.-aero-handlebar-mount/?currency=ZAR&vat=hide&gclid=Cj0KCQiAxs3gBRDGARIsAO4tqq3OPXF6dUi_CJPtD0TrNYR8Q50aOpPPzYJAG3j1SqDth-YrvtRLATMaAt9XEALw_wcB So online research lead me to the Garmin Edge Explore. A unit that looks like the new 1030, but with a lot of expensive bits removed (cant'connect to PM, no rider-to rider messaging like the 1030) bits removed, but critically the navigation function being top class. No one sells it locally (it's not on the Garmin SA website), and I'm hesitant buying it from overseas as the maps may be region locked. They say new maps can be purchased, but at what cost. Has anyone ever bought a Garmin unit from overseas finding the maps are region locked?
  18. Has anyone ever seen / heard / used or have an Xiaomi AMAZFIT Smart Watch Any opinions would be appreciated. I would love to buy a Garmin Fenix 3 or 5 - But they are just something I cannot afford. That's why I am look at alternative watches https://goo.gl/T8pJ36 -- here is a link to the details of the watch. TIA
  19. Hi World of cycling, I am desperate.. no beyond desperate.. at the point of hauling my heavy kickr out the window. No more patience. I need help... please. The issues: - my training program is on training peaks (TP) - i use wahoo kickr for indoor training - my heart rate monitor is garmin - cadence is wahoo cadence monitor Issue: How do I get all of these things to work TOGETHER? After many hours I have managed to sync TP to Rouvy Mobile App which also now has picked up my cadence but cant seem to pick up my HR? and somehow the training session is displayed in %FTP and not watts? How do I change this? Is this a TP issue rather than Rouvy setting? All I want it is my TP session, on my kickr, reading watts (not %FTP), with my HR and cadence reading. Why does this seem to be such a challenge?? SECOND ISSUE something is veeeeeery wrong with the kickr. My program has me at a warmup of 100 -120 watts (this is being read from the TP scheduled workout so I am not on erg mode, I am using rouvy) but i am struggling to ride. i reckon the watts are probably around 180. is this a calibration issue. Any guidance would be highly appeciated, otherwise going to trade this kickr for a watt bike, Thanks
  20. Good morning Hubland, Simple question - replaceable or not? Watch isn't even 2 months old.
  21. So the latest firmware update for my watch includes a setting for abnormal heart rate. "An abnormal heart rate will be detected if your heart rate exceeds the entered threshold for an extended period of time while sedentary" Any idea on what that threshold HR should be?
  22. Hello I have a new iPhone 8+. I can't get my Garmin 920XT to pair with the phone. The phone finds the Garmin but fails to pair... any ideas?

  24. Hi Hubbers, To those who own a Edge 520, who can realistically get 15 hours out of that unit? After 7 or so hours yesterday, the battery was already on 18%. Here are the functions that are turned on - Brightness - 60% Bluetooth HRM PM GPS +GLONASS Maps (during yesterday's ride) What power-saving tips can you recommend? If worst comes to worst, can I purchase a new battery from NavWorld or someone else?
  25. I would like to commend the EasyGis team, and Specifically Matthew Walsh in the manner in which they handle a purchase. I ordered a Garmin HRM3 Soft Strap ANT+ heart rate monitor. The product arrived a few days later by Courier. I tested extensively, and found the device to be faulty. I emailed the support team and received a mail back from Matthew. It was a few days later, but he apologized because they were doing the timing for Berg and Bush that weekend. He dispatched a replacement unit immediately. If it was not for the below par service from Aramex, I would have been sorted in 2 days. Eventually, a week later (due to Aramex failings, and not EasyGis) I received my HRM3. Tested and it works fine. Thanks to the team and Matthew at EasyGis. I can recommend them for all your GPS needs.
