  1. Hey Guys, So I have narrowed my search down to 3 bikes. [i ride chilled single track, fireroads, want to start doing more advanced single tracks as my skill level increases, don't want to die climbing. Have a slightly more aggressive style.] The bikes are: SCOTT GENIUS 740 27.5 SILVERBACK SLIDER 2 27.5 GIANT TRANCE 2 27.5 They are all around the R35k mark new. Also looking at the second hand market but the same bikes. Giant most expensive bike, then Scott and Silverback the same price. Can't find many reviews on the Silverback but they seem to be very popular, another bike shop sells Scott more than anything else and Giants well Giant. Help Appreciated
  2. Hi there, Still searching for an upgrade and was wondering if you guys could help regarding size. I have ridden Trek both Medium and Large frames before. I called a local cycling shop and asked them about a Medium frame. They suggested I should be on a large as most my height are? I have done 2 online bike fits one more advanced one and one based on height and actual inseam. The one website said 17.5" bikes up to 19 at largest and the more advanced one gave me more measurements. Based on standover height, virtual top tube length and my height 1.79m if I went for a Trek or Giant I would be around a Medium (when looking at the bikes Geometry). 1.79 height Actual Inseam 79.8cm Arm 57.8 Lower leg 53.2 and thigh 58.2 My standover height should be between 75.9 and 77.45 and virtual top tube length 58.1 and 59.1cm. The bikes iv been looking at were the Trek Superfly 9.8, Giant Anthem 27.5 (older model) Older Stumpjumper but think I would like 27.5 better. Calling the shop just threw me off as I'm looking at getting a second hand bike from gumtree or here. Thanks for the advice! Sean
  3. Hey Everyone, So the usual I'm sure.. which one to purchase. Background: I'm 28, 78kg. Started out cycling again not so long ago. Previously iv ridden BMX when i was in way younger, then road for a year or so on an old Trek budget MTB. Recently started doing a bit of road, cycle track (gravel) and jeep tracks off road routes. Nothing downhill/single track yet but would like something capable of handling some easier single tracks and off-road routes too. I did own a Scott full suspension bike a few years ago but was sold it thinking a could ride a bit on road to gym and also hit trails, it felt incredibly slow and the suspension sucked up pretty much all the power going forward. (Probably also due to incorrect settings and so on). What i'm looking for: I need a bike that I can put some sort of slick tires on. Im using 26x1.50 cheap ones for my old Trek now for on-road and they make a massive difference compared to the stock MTB ones. I would like to do the Argus (for the first time) next year (wont be racing against the clock) but have mates doing it too that are looking at cheap road bikes, perhaps something that can keep up. I have read lots over the years and do realize the differences in angles and components, being more upright, gearing and so on. I don't expect to stay with them the entire way but the more capable the better. Not sure if I should be looking at 29er's or 650B's. I really like the components and everything I have read when it comes to the Silverback 15 Sola 1 (R23,394). Giant XTC Advanced (R20,750) but read that the above Sola 1 would be better? with better components. Trek Superfly 9.6 Carbon (R24.500) 27.5/29 Scott Scale 950 (R21,900) I'm thinking the Trek or Silverback one being Carbon the other not. Both Rockshox Reba RL front suspension. Silverback mostly Shimano XT/SLX Trek Deore XT Sram7. The XC / Cross Country bikes I think would suit me better than trail for what I'm looking for and Hardtail seems to be a good option for my price range (the extra saved on rear suspension going towards frame wheels and components) I plan on running off road tires tubeless eventually and getting a spare set of wheels and slicks for on road use. I would like advice on any other bikes in that range and on wheel sizes 27.5/29. Also on gearing for road use, Don't want to do any serious mods besides wheels and tires. Thanks very much Sean
  4. Im looking at a intermediate enduro bike for bout R6500, I ride a small, looking at a full SUS what can i get that's good? (and doesn't have rubbish parts) im a very rough rider so nothing for XC

  20. Hi, I'm still riding a 5 year old Spez Epic Comp Carbon and now looking for something new. The 2016 models coming out now are above my budget, so after doing quite a bit of research, I've narrowed my search down to two bikes that's still available in 2015 models at quite good prices: The Scott Spark 930 or Giant Anthem Advanced Carbon (650b or 29). Would love to hear some opinions here. Does anyone have experience of both? I do mostly trail riding with the occasional longer distances and races like W2W, Houw Hoek, K2C, etc. I tried a friend's Scott 930 recently and loved it. Will also be taking out a demo of the Athem 650b this weekend to see how it compares.

  22. Hi, I am fairly new to biking, and, after a lot of research, I think I've narrowed my choices to the Giant Anthem Advanced 29er (R41k - 2015 model) or the Spez Camber Comp Carbon 29er (R41k - 2015 model) i.e. both are the same price. I have also been quoted R47k for the Spez Epic Comp Carbon 29er. I'd be interested to hear from the members which bike they feel offers better rideability and value for money. After reading numerous posts, I know that a lot has to do with personal preference so I plan on riding both, if possible, before purchase. Cheerio.
  23. Every so often a new bicycle gets launched that causes a stir and when news first broke of the new 27.5" Giant Reign the world took notice. Enduro racing was already in full swing and most manufacturers had a bike pitched at Enduro racing, but very few had a bike designed and build around this form of racing. A Large Reign Advanced 1 has just been introduced into our long term fleet. Click here to view the article
  24. Hi, I have been riding for about a year now and want to move from a 26" Silverback to a 29" Full sus. I have 3 bikes in mind but cannot seem to choose a bike. They all cost the same so the price issue isnt a factor. The three bikes I have looked at is the Scott Spark 940, Giant Anthem X (Upgraded to Crest Wheels) and Silverback Sprada 1. With me staying in the Garden Route I ride alot of offroad with a few single tracks here and there. Please help!!! -Johnathan
  25. Hi Guys So Ive sold my Fondriest TF 2 frame as I felt it was time for change.Ive still got my flawless 7900 Dura Ace 10speed Groupset and Easton EA90SLX wheels. Ive got the groupset and wheels in the classifieds but I cant get a decent price then I will keep them, No Issues. My question now is, What frame/bicycle do I go for? Complete bikes, I am looking at Ultegra 11 as a minimum but if the approximate R6000 cant be justified then Ill got with 105 Giant TCR ADV R36000 full Ultegra 11 Giant Propel ADV 2 R27000 105 11 Giant Propel ADV 1 R33000 Ultegra 11(Limited) http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-in/bikes/model/propel.advanced.1/19021/76870/ Swift Ultravox RS1 R36000 Ultegra 22 EA70SLX wheels Silverback Scalera 2 R34000 Ultegra 11 Silverback Sirelli 2 R33500 Ultegra 11 Framesets, I will then keep my groupset and wheels and just get the frame. Bear in mind an 11speed Ultegra is about R11000 so I could then even go with a frameset and then get the new groupset and then just keep the EA90SLX's 2013 Focus CAYO EVO with Racing 3's wheelset R18500 2015 Giant Propel ADV pro R22000 2015 Trek Emonda SL R21000 2014/2015 Swift Ti R18500 The Fondriest had a harsh ride but It was something I could bear. I didnt like that it felt that way. I want a racing bike thats not going to beat me up. I prefer a slightly more upright position but also not like Jacob straight up. Looks wise its defnetly the CAYO, then the Swift then the Propel. Id like to buy now and not have to worry for atleast the next 2 years. Ill also be looking at getting a deeper wheelset closer to the DC. Advice and reviews are all welcome, maybe Ive forgotten something on the list. ALL help is appreciated! Mopkop
