  1. Anyone seen the new Wine Lands Regional permit? Bought one on Tuesday because it's very much worth it and to support the industry. https://winelandstrails.com/ This allows for access to over 700 km of mountain bike trails - Wine Lands Cycling Club - A2Z (Grabouw) - Helderberg trials (Helderberg/Somerset West) - Stellenbosch Trail Fund (Stellenbosch) - MTO Jonkershoek (Stellenbosch - Banhoek Conservancy (Kylemore/Pniel) - Franschhoek trails (Franschoek) - Paarl trails (Paarl) - Wellington Wild boar and Scouts (Wellington) Membership will be valid from 1 December 2021 to 31 December 2022. Adult Board 19 - 64 years - cost of annual membership R1500 Junior Board < 18 years - cost of annual membership R1250 Senior board > 65 years - cost of annual membership R1250 Such a great initiative - apparently it took 3 years to get all the parties around the table and to agree.
  2. If you haven’t yet experienced the amazing Trail’s End Bike Hotel in the Elgin Grabouw Valley – you need to treat yourself. Described as “The Centre of the Great Outdoors”, this is exactly what it is with adventure at every turn! The ideal family getaway. Click here to view the article
  3. Hey everyone I've recently noticed an increase of more enduro bikes (hopefully riders) on my local trails here in, Hermanus, in the Hemel en Aarde Valley. Although these trails are not bad, they do lack any form of challenge or gradient. A few mates and I have been building a pretty steep and gnarly-ish trail and would be keen to show or send the location of to anyone who is looking for something a bit different in Hermanus. If you're a local and have some spare time to contribute to finishing up the trail and or maintenance, it would also be greatly appreciated. If you are coming for a weekend and need someone to show you some of our more gravity focused trails we've built (and found ) do let me know.
  4. 2018 Tru Cape MTB Event Date2018-05-05Distances50km, 25km, 10kmEvent starting times09h00 , 09h20, 09h40VenueElgin Grabouw Country ClubOrganizersEuna ParnellEmailparnelle@hsgrabouw.co.zaEnquiries Phone Number:021 859 4203/4Entries close2018-05-03 ROUTE DESCRIPTION This great event offers three routes in the popular Grabouw Forest. The 10 km route is aimed at beginners and youngsters (grandparents also welcome!), while experienced MTB riders can tackle the challenging 50 km endurance event. This route requires technical experience to handle the fine single track, many jeep track climbs and exhilarating descents. Don’t feel like doing all those climbs? Then the 25 km is just right for you! Be warned, the two longer routes both include some long, steady climbs, but the stunning view makes up for the sweat. The single track sections will still have you raving about them weeks later The closing date for online entries is MIDNIGHT Thursday 3rd May 2018

  7. Howzit Hubbers! A quick update on iRide Africa's trail building progress at Lebanon. As some of you may know, Harry and I have been given permission to go and improve the trail network and we've been traveling out there and doing as much trailwork as we can between work stints (My skills clinic class schedule has suffered terrible, so sorry to those who I've had to turn away). We've designed new signage and Action Frames has kindly sponsored the material and printing costs (please support them if you need any display products made-they are mountain bikers!) but that signage will only go up in a month or so. So far we have added about 4km of trail to the network and without signage we are worried that the trails won't bed in and stay clear if riders don't start using them! So our suggestion/plea is to please download a VERY current map from our website here (we'll update it every time we add a new trail), plan a day to go riding/running and go and find these trails and give us your feedback while bedding in the trails! Obviously some of the trails won't link up perfectly yet so we want you to find your own way and connect the trails. We have the rad little problem of too much space and potential and not enough time/manpower to get the trails all built at the same time! The trails start at Oak Lane cottages/ Old MacDaddy and permits only cost R30! We've identified a few problems with the network and are trying to resolve them so more people want to ride there. What we are trying to fix is the following; 1) More singletrack 2) More variety to suit all types of riders 3) Better signage so people won't get lost 4) Improve start/end of loops to be exciting (proving to be difficult but long term goal) 5) More singletrack! So please, go and book yourself/family a weekend away and go and ride Lebanon trails and help us out while you are about it! We are planning a weekend of trail building for those that want to help out but most likely only in Sept/October. Lebanon MTB will kindly offer free accommodation, we'll supply free CBC beer and will have marked out the trails to build and the thinking is we get a posse of mtbers out there, do some serious trail building, and have a braai and social get together while we're doing so. We'll keep you in the loop with that one as we have at least 12km more trail to add there before we'll be happy ourselves!

  12. Named after the German town Grabow, the small town of Grabouw sits about 1.5 hours drive away from Cape Town, in the vast Elgin Valley. Known for being the largest single exporter or fruits in Southern Africa, it has also hosted numerous mountain biking, trail running and other adventure sporting events over the years. As a results of this, the trail network seems to be never-ending and the backdrop never ceases to amaze. Click here to view the article

  16. Anyone who has participated in any form of mountain biking event recently will have noticed that basic bike handling skills seem to have been neglected by a large proportion of South African riders. In an attempt to avoid being one of the many that screech to a halt at the first sign of a rock, bridge, or anything that can not be defined as wide open jeep track, I decided to attend the annual Biking in the Bosch mountain bike camp held at Paul Cluver wine estate just outside Grabouw.
