  1. New patent suggests Shimano is designing a fully wireless groupset Both of Shimano's patents were submitted on 20 February but US-20240092456-A1 was published first on 21 March and contains pictures showing a rear derailleur with a cuboid device housed within.
  2. I have an Avalanche Pro Reflex 29er (entry level but I'm loving her!) MTB; after maybe 250km of riding the gear changes start to need to be 'feathered' to ensure no slipping of gears. Will a newer, upgraded cable prevent this? https://www.avalanchebikes.co.za/products/avalanche-reflex-29-pro-black-red?colours=black%20%2F%20red&sizes=s Thanks for your help.
  3. Need some advice please. My Fuji TeamSL has the Shimano Ultegra shifters. The crankset has 2 rings: 36/50 teeth. The groupset is 10-speed, 11 - 23 teeth. I am not as young and fit as when I brought it, and find that I am struggling with climbing. I would like to have some more, larger rings in the back, and a 3rd smaller ring in the front. Is this possible with the same Ultegra shifters? What do you experts recommend I do?
  4. SRAM is launching ‘XPLR’ – a gravel groupset with a pretty comprehensive range and depth of components https://singletrackworld.com/gritcx/2021/08/10/sram-launches-xplr-its-wireless-suspension-gravel-groupset/
  5. Help Needed!!! I am relatively new to mtb and ride and enduro 27.5 650b. I am running a shimano xt 2x10 group set with a Thirteen hub. I want to upgrade to better suite my riding. I have a budget of +-10000 rand but I am not sure what drivetrain/grouplet to go for and am looking for recommendations. I really enjoy the DH stuff but do like the distance so looking for something that does both well. Help would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Hey guys, I broke a chain a few weeks back riding some of that momentum killing crap at Big Red Barn. I didn’t think much of it after getting my chain back on, and for a few rides I was thinking that something is just way off with my shifting and it was just bugging me. Tonight I changed out my cable housing for nicer Shimano housing in orange and decided to to do the whole setup from scratch. When setting the high limit screw, I noticed a slightly bent tooth on my 50t cog. Since it’s Alu, I knew it was unlikely to bend back, but it was in the way of smooth shifting for the 42t. So i gave it a shot. Figured I could slightly tug it out the way with some leather and pipe pliers. It just broke off. Is it possible to replace only the one cog? I’m guessing it isn’t since the cogs are pinned together. Do you think it is a really bad thing to ride like this for a couple of months until I can replace it? If I do this, do you have any recommendations to not cause any extreme wear on the chain? I’m pretty disappointed because this groupset is basically brand new and I don’t have money to replace a Cassette now. This really sucks big time!
  7. Looks like a new undisclosed Sram Eagle 12spd groupset is on the way... "The $4000 Signal Peak Elite gets Performance-level Fox suspension, SRAM GX Eagle, Level TL brakes, and Xfusion Manic dropper, and Stans Arch Mk3 wheels. The most affordable Signal Peak Comp at $3000 has a RockShox Reba RL fork & Monarch RT3 shock, an undefined NEW SRAM Eagle drivetrain, Level T brakes, no dropper, and WTB I25. The Pro & Elite will be available from May 1st. The Comp will have to wait until June 11, presumably when that new SRAM drivetrain will be ready. As with all other Fezzari bikes, the Signal Peak is backed by Fezzari’s No Risk, Just Ride Guarantee that includes both a 30-day no-risk ride or return policy and a full lifetime frame warranty." https://www.bikerumor.com/2018/04/18/fezzari-signal-peak-nods-to-fast-fun-in-120mm-carbon-xc-mountain-bike/ Likely NX Eagle? To slot in below GX.

  9. I have a Scott Spark 920 2013 with the following chain rings and group set on. Crankset: Shimano XT FC-M780 hollowtech 2 42Ax32Ax24A Casette: Shimano CS-HG81-10 11-36 Rear Derailleur: Shimano XT RD-M786 SGS Front Derailleur: Shimano SLX FD-M670-E / DM I would like to modify my cassette to include a 40 or 42 teeth granny gear. I'm told that this cannot be done, however there are forums indicating that this is possible. Purchasing a 2x11 or 1x11 New groupset both cost in excess of R9000 and I'm looking for a more cost effective fix. Could you advice me if this is possible, and if it is how do I do the modifications i.e. which components do I remove and replace with what.
  10. Good day guys, some advice please. Have a 2003 Look KG386 9spd roadbike. Rear groupset very small 11/23 Dura Ace and front 53/39. It's very hilly here in our parts and I'm looking to buy a new groupset back. I don't want to change the crank in the front. Must replace chain. Is it possible to only change groupset and chain? And with Dura ace being outdated, what groupset should I be looking for?
  11. Hey guys I would appreciate some advice on my bike and what gear you guys would invest in order to improve it abit. So I started cycling in 2014 and got the Giant Propel Advanced with the basic 105 Groupset. Now 2 years and one sub 3 at the Argus later, I am looking to upgrade it!!! I just took advantage of the Darkhorse Carbon clinchers 38mm from onedayonly and am planning to change my groupset next. However I know that I am in for about 25k if I want the Ultegra Di2 (heard the Dura ace Di2 is not that much better than it justifies the big increase in price, but please correct me if I am mistaken). My LBS told me when I bought the bike in August 2014 that the frame is good and can easily be kept still. My questions are now: 1. What groupset would you recommend?(I know that at that price tag all higher end groupsets are decent and its more about personal preference) 2. Would you even invest that much in a groupset or maybe sell the bike instead and put that with the 20-25k together to get an upgraded bike? And if so, what bike? If you have any other advice, I would appreciate that too. Thanks alot!!
  12. Hold on to your butts, the new Dura Ace 9100 groupset prices are out and it looks like i'm going to have to sell one or two body parts to get my hands on it: http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/product-news/pricing-revealed-new-shimano-dura-ace-groupset-273692 Its a weight saving I suppose http://cdn.mos.bikeradar.imdserve.com/images/news/2016/06/29/dura-ace-r9100-op_zz_zz_zz_img1-1467198559854-1ng5i7fqj7758-960-540.jpg
  13. Howzit all. Just looking for the going rate of a new Ultegra 6870 Di2 groupset. Can't seem to find any current pricing on the local websites. My LBS quoted me R30k.

  15. With SRAM's 12 speed Eagle groupset officially announced, what will your future drivetrain upgrade look like?
  16. Tell us what speed(s) your current drivetrain is and what you will be buying next.
  17. Hi there everyone! I want to upgrade my current mtb groupset and yes as always weight plays a big role. Currently running Shimano XT 1x11 and Simano XT brakes. Best way to upgrade? *XTR *XO1 *XX1 Please share thoughts and is it worth spending that extra money for better groupset?
  18. Just spotted at the tour de france, the long rumoured FSA semi-wireless road groupset. Very much prototype stage, but interesting that Ettix will have it on the spare bike at the tour. Very cool tech. Always good to have a new entrant in the market.
  19. I am travelling to Europe in mid-May and was wondering if it would be worth it to buy kit, components etc there to save a bit. Winter is a thing of the past there so I assume winter clothing and warm stuff will be on sales. I am going to be in Paris, Antwerp, Amsterdam, and quite a few cities in Germany. Do you perhaps know of cycling shops I could visit? Or perhaps order stuff online and get it delivered? Are there any pitfalls or issues bringing cycling stuff back?Any other useful tips you know about?Would be great to hear from the guys that bought stuff that way already. Goedgedacht
  20. Hi All, i am looking to buy a good used mountain bike for my wife, i thought around the R9K mark, what type of bike should i be looking at and possibly what components/groupset could i expect at this price....
  21. Since I started cycling I have stuck with Alivio : 3 (22-32-44) by 8 (11-32). Will it be hard for me to climb if I go for a 2x10 setup? Do you get any affordable ones that are more focused on climbing than speed? Any advice will be welcome.
