  1. Hi guys My colleague recently bought a Momsen AL655 with the Rock Shock 30 Gold TK fork and he would like to add remote lockout to the fork. Has anyone done this before if so what remote lockout did you use? Any advice on adding remote lockout to forks would be appreciated.
  2. My girlfriend is looking for a small bike. She's found 2 bikes. One is a silverback slade 3 (650B) or a Momsen AL329 (29"). The momsen is a better bike, a bit more pricey, but not sure if she should be riding a 29" with a small frame?
  3. East Cape XCO #1 - 1 March. Crank up resolution quality on Youtube setting to really enjoy! For more info and to enter go check out our website here Great to have UPC and Momsen Bikes as sponsors for the XCO Series (Thanks to Momsen Bikes who also assisted with this video!) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrsyooezVTI&feature=youtu.be
  4. Hi there, I just had my trusted hardtail stolen at the Grabow Country Club. Parked inside the gated area when the bike was nicked of the rack in broad daylight. It was the following spec Momsen RaceTec2 Alu frame, black frame with the red and white decals of the 2012 or 2013 "129" model. Size L Full XT Group incl. XT brakes. Raceface NW 1x10 conversion. 32t. Fulcrum Red Power XL 29 Wheels with Maxxis Ikon 2.2 tyres White Rockshox Reba RLT Fizik Gobi saddle. Cockpit and post is basic FSA alu stuff Spez ergo gribs Note that the photo is a bit outdated. It still shows the 2x10 XT chainrings and the crossmark tyre. This upspec'ed 129er Momsen will definately be a rare sight. Please let me know here or on 0836808998 if you see it anywhere on the trails or for sale. Cheers Sebastian
  5. I want a second hand hard tail mountain bike for under R20000. I had my heart on a Flash lefty but some people told me that the lefty fork gives lots of problems and needs to be serviced more regularly and services is expensive on them. Is this true? Now I am thinking of a momsen or something like that. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
  6. "Momsen Bikes we are working on a Reynolds Steel 29er -- complete with sliding dropouts - dubbed ST-R29 for now ... hoping to see first frame samples soon. Question: do we do as FRAME-KIT or COMPLETE BIKE?" https://www.facebook.com/momsenbikes Uber cool !
  7. A friend of mine wants to buy himself a MTB. He has roughly 12k to spend. I told him to go secondhand but he wants to buy new...He is 2.02m tall and weighing in around 108kg. The bikes we have been looking at is: http://merida-bikes.com/en_za/bike/2014/52/MTB+Hardtails/Big.Nine+TFS+500 http://www.titanracingbikes.com/29relite.html http://www.momsenbikes.com/bikes/29-er/al429 http://www.bergamont-sa.co.za/29er-hardtail/revox-8-3 The bergamont fell out because this morning it was still 14k and then tonight it changed to 17k...dont understand that. What is the best value for money? Any other suggestion?
  8. Hi there I'm looking at buying a first mountain bike. Mostly XC riding, perhaps a few 2-3 day events later on. Currently looking at hardtail for maximum R25k-ish budget. Not to fussed about alu vs carbon. I've spent some time looking at bikes at different LBS' around me...and lots of internet research...pretty much overwhelmed at this point. Couple of options at the moment, I really like the look of this bike - Momsen SL729 - http://www.momsenbikes.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&layout=item&id=178&Itemid=754 http://www.olympiccycles.co.za/uploads/8cf7b5d2f6e24846a35e5e0b99c8ecf1-08042013-11411.jpg ...but there does to be quite a few stories about broken frames so I'm unsure. Also looking at something like the Scott Scale 940. Any advice, specific model I should perhaps look at, issues to avoid etc? Thanks in advance!
  9. Hi guys Okay to quickly sum up my story I am getting new frame for myself. But I am not sure if my old parts on my old bike will work on the new frame? First time I will be doing a build over, so please bare with me. Okay, my current bike is a Silverback Vida4 my new frame is a Momsen AL329. I want to take hopefully all of my parts from the Silverback Vida4 and put them on the Momsen AL329 if possible. I will provide the links with the two frame's, my Vida4 is perfectly standard so the website will do as far as knowing what is on my bike. Silverback Vida4: http://www.silverbac...CK/vida4_13.htm (click on the top left above the picture show specs to see what is what here.) Momsen AL329: http://www.momsenbikes.com/al329 The first thing I noticed is that headtube of the Momsen's frame is 10mm shorter? So please help me out here and tell me what I can put on the Momsen and what I would have to buy to make this work. Thanks a million!
  10. I am in love with the Momsen Bikes values. And, a proudly South African bike brand too. Lekker! I missed getting my paws on the SL929 by a few days... Damn, my flu kept me away from the computer and I missed it. Seems there are still other good deals to be had. What do you reckon for serious XC and marathon racing - hardtail only - from Momsen Bikes?
  11. On the weekend, I spotted an ad on the Hub classifieds; clearance sale of 2013 model Momsen AL329 for R6995 (normal price R9000). Manager (Andrew) gave me a good trade-in price on my old bike, and I took delivery of the Momsen the next day. Great bike, great service, great deal. Just one thing- the Hillcrest branch doesn't seem to appear on the Cycle Logic site's map, but it is definitely worth visiting. Just visiting from Bloem; this was a nice and unexpected Xmas present to myself.
  12. ...so after many years are toil, I have finally got the cash together to buy a bike. Now, that sounds all good and well, but I only have R6k to spend. So I've been searching high low, for new and old models. And I managed to find two offers that are well worth looking at. The first is a Momsen AL029 and the second, a GT Timberline 1.0. The Momsen costing R6k and the GT costing R5k. Both are 29ers and both have hydraulic discs. The Momsen has SRAM sets, while the GT has Shimano. Both are 24-Speed. I've decided to go for the GT, purely on price, and based on the reasoning that there is very little difference between the two. Have I made the right decision?
  13. Noticed on Momsen's Twitter feed that some of their team bikes are sporting Fox's ICD battery packs. No official word, of course, but it's definitely nearing production and mainstream availability. Battery pack on the Downtube and the unit on the shock is clearly visible. Less so the wiring that connects to the fork. Nice to see a local brand at the forefront of tech For those who don't know what it is, here's a cool article. http://www.pinkbike....in-Earnest.html Lappiere has been running production "El" bikes with RockShox electronic suspension. http://www.bikeradar...27-ei-14-47778/ http://brimages.bikeboardmedia.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/ost4.jpg
  14. Good day, I'm brand new to the forum but would like an opinion please. I've been a recreational MTB rider for quite some years and recently upgraded to a Momsen AL829 29'er one month ago. I've barely done 150km on the bike and took it back to the local bike shop where I've bought it from for the first free service / check-up / tuning. Next day got on the bike, cycled about 100m and BANG! my derraileur hanger snapped. Can't remember what exactly happened but I think I shifted a gear at that time. It was a flat road with no rocks or anything else possible to damage it. Who do I blame? The manufacturer? Bad hanger? Or the my bike shop who last worked on it. Do I have anything to fight for regarding warranty? Thanks
  15. My Red and Black Momsen AL 529 hardtail 29er was stolen from bike rack where it was locked at Eikestad mall last week. Please keep a look-out. Bennie
  16. Well it's time to go dual suspension and I have been riding Momsen since I got back onto a bike. I am totally in love with the VIPA but don't know what to do since recent advice. The Vipa don't have remote lock out on the rear shock and also don't come with shadow + it is also R5000 more expensive than the Spark 910...? What to do..? What is the best buy or value for money..?
  17. Had a warranty claim on 2 bikes,as it fell outside of the time frame,I was gearing myself up for a big fight. Was pleasently surprised when Victor came back and said although the warranty will not "kick" in their loyalty programme will. The offer made to me was excellent and I am still a very happy Momsen rider. Good one Victor and everyone at Momsen!!!
  18. Hardly the type of bikes one should put next toe each other. Trying to get my head around which hardtail to buy and what budget would be enough. I want to spend around R30k for that I would like a carbon hardtail. I will take the standard wheel with the idea to upgrade later on. From what I've seen, it is much of a muchness when in comes to a hardtail, yes geometry is very important, but at this stage I am not convinced that a R50k hardtail will ride easier that a R30k from the same manufacturer. Momsen is quite good value for money and it is local, something like the 729, Silverback Storm is also good value for money, not sure if it is still the flavour of the month and the you have the Stumpy, which for some odd reason just do not look as nice/aggresive as other hardtails. One could off course also go the Rocky Mountain/Giant route. Any suggestion, or should I rather save up for something like the Spez Epic or Scott full sus. This is mainly for cross country/marathon type riding.
  19. Who sells momsen bikes in gauteng? Thanks
  20. So my Momsen 2014 AL229 Bike which is the best thing to ever happen to me, (dont tell my wife and Kids) needed to go to the LBS. The gears kept jumping / slipping while changing and the final straw was when i got out the saddle and the chain jumped off and got stuck between the chainstay and cassette, which caused my knee and handlebar to connect solidly. So in it went, i pointed out to the LBS that the rear wheel slightly catches the brake discs but not majorly. No problem with the front. When i went and picked up my bike my saddle was loose enough for two dwarfs to play see-saw on. my seat post was lowered too, now i'm no mechanic but what are they doing up there on my bike when the problem is on the gears at the back? (maybe there stand clamped on the seat post ) I let it go and was charged for gear setting, and brake disc aligning for the rear and the front. But the front was fine , i let it go and thought maybe i just dont know it but there was a problem. On the way out i asked the owner what the tyre pressure should be and he said 3Bar all round. Rode my bike but wasn't happy, thought maybe it was just my mind playing tricks on me. This morning i hand no fuel in the car so i thought, Yay, commute to work it was on this mornings ride that i found my front brake, (which had no visible damage to the eye, ear, or touch before taking it in) was now sounding like Steel on Steel while braking and just before a complete stop it sounds like a cracked cylinder head. Ok so now only the back brakes are to be used to get to work. No problem as the majority of the way is up hill ( but that means going home will be downhill with only back brakes ), further on i found that when i lean to the left on my bike it sounds and feels like something is scraping, i dont no what though. As this has been the first bad thing that has happened to me with the LBS i though i would phone them and tel them, and i was expecting a simple " oh so sorry for that, bring it in and lets have a look", but instead i got a "well if you having that problem with your brake you will have to take it to where you bought it as i wont be able to do a warranty claim on that" from the owner himself. WTF!!! Needless to say i now want a second opinion and someone to go over my bike from head to toe. Was thinking about Tony Impey's as i'm in Alberton and he's in Bedfordview(13km away) but then i'm probably going to talk his ear off about Darryl and i'm sure he must be tired of people nagging at him about the TDF and Darryl already. I remember there was a post somewhere about a guy in germiston(since the early 1980's) who had rave reviews and was thinking about that but dont have any details about him? Any other suggestions? There is always the Hub at Rietvlei but i dont know there work.
  21. Hubbers, I'm in the market for a new MTB frame, and would like to stick with aluminium, and not go the carbon route. After doing some reading on the Net, there's a very limited supply of "high" end aluminium MTB frames on the market. Why is that the case? Do the suppliers feel that there's no market for high end aluminium frames, and that people would rather buy a carbon frame for the same price as a aluminium frame? Also, why did PYGA stopped production of the Zero29? Same goes for Yeti with the BigTop. Surely there is "some" market for these frames? I was even inquiring the other day about a Santa Cruz Highball Aluminium....with the LBS replying....They don't import the alu version into SA. Momsen doesn't have the AL829 model for 2014? So it either a basic aluminium frame for entry level bikes....or carbon for the future?
  22. Would appreciate some feedback from Hubbers who own or have ridden the Momsen AL829 over a period of time The specs look nice and it seems like a more than adequate XC bike. I have an option of getting a new one at more than a good deal. Thanks for the feedback and comments.
  23. Hi Hubbers Any opinions on this bike? Frame quality etc.?? ride? price? Please let me know...
  24. Hi Guys and Girls, Need some advise on best value for money 29er hardtail mtb, casual rider, budget = +/- R 15,000. Looked at Merida Big 9 500 or XT, Momsen AL 429, Silverback Sola 1 or what else can anyone advise me on like Scott etc? Looking forward.
  25. Hi, My brand new Momsen AL 329 was stolen from the back of block of flats in Gardens/Tamboerskloof on October 2nd. It's the 2014 model in black, orange and white) so there shouldn't be too many around. If anyone has seen it in 2nd hand bike stores or elsewhere, please let me know.
