  1. Hey guys, I'm not a pro biker of any sort, I'm simply wanting a solid enough bike for riding cross country / mountain and road trips, that is not super costly. Good brakes and shocks would be awesome. I dont know much about bikes so would greatly appreciate your advice I do know that I need an XL as I'm 6ft2 and dont want to be slouched over when cycling (I have posture issues Im working on as is due to sitting all day). Bridge Cycles has a Scott Aspect 940 or 950 2020 for 11k, a bit high but I had a Scott Aspect before I moved to UK for a year. These look interesting to me. https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/439623/scott-genius-30-xl-carbon https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/hardtail-mountain-bikes/439446/titan-29er-xl Thanks so much

  3. Hi my name is Rob. I am a cyclist based in Fish Hoek, Cape Town. I am looking for riding/training partners for either road or mountain or both in and around the Southern peninsula/Southern suburbs. The only catch is due to a busy workday I ride early mornings leaving 5 back by 7 or so. I am more than happy to leave earlier if need be and meet up with you somewhere more convenient. I guess I average about 25-26km/h on road bike with climbs included. Can easily handle a bit more and am super relaxed about riding with slower people but faster or equal is ideal. Weekends we can ride at a more sensible hour! I enjoy riding road, love riding mountain, climbing is awesome, I am a bit slow on single track as I am rather new to the sport. Hoping to do rides of about 50-60km during week or hill sprints and repeats. Weekend longer rides are awesome! If anyone knows of groups or people who ride those kinds of times I would love to hear of them. Thanks for taking the time to read my post! Cheers Rob
  4. Event Name: Overkruin XCR When: 21 October 2017 Where: XCOSA Bike Park Voortrekker Monument, Gauteng Category: MTB Hoërskool Overkruin bied op 21 October 2017 ‘n bergfietswedren aan as fondsinsameling vir ons bergfietsspan. Hoërskool Overkruin is presenting a mountain bike race as fundraiser event for our mountain bike team on 21 October 2017. The race will take on the XCR format (relay teams competing in the Olympic discipline)where teams of 2-4 members compete over 8 laps in their respective age categories. Teams can, however, consist of different aged members, in which case that team will compete in the age group of the strongest rider. The 2017 Overkruin XCR takes place at the XCOSA Bike Park, Voortrekker Monument and forms part of the 4-race 2017 Portable Shade XCR Series. Each race lap is +-5km in length and offers approximately 150m of vertical ascend per lap. There are no extreme obstacles on the “rider-friendly” race track. The race will take place in accordance with Gauteng North Cycling and Cycling SA. Hoërskool Overkruin challenges all schools to enter their mountain bike teams to compete with with our best. 5. Some future Champs are going to come from the Soutpansberg. The groupie below is yesterday's gaggle of primary school kids. They meet in Hanglip forest at least twice a week , Monday and Wednesday , and often are taken to the Spur schools rides on Saturdays or have an all day "Picnic Ride" on the Mountain. Last year I joined in with two picnic rides with these little fellas - each time we covered almost 30km in the day and climbed 980m of ascent! Mark & Johan you guys are Tops!

  8. I am starting this thread to get some interest going regarding the mountain bike routes around Franschhoek. I have been facilitating a team of trail builders during the past 4 months. Work was mostly focused on clearing and repairing old forestry roads, but some new sections and links have also been built. We will launch the trails by the end of January once they are all marked and mapped, but in the mean time you are welcome to contact me to come and ride the routes as planned. This will also probably be the last chance to ride these mountains for free as a permit system will be necessary in future to ensure the sustainability of the project. Here are links to some GoPro footage taken recently: https://youtu.be/rhmVaZLK1x0 and https://youtu.be/oymc52ViYfo
  9. Hi Guys I hope you guys aren't sick of answering newbie posts by now, I would really appreciate some advice on a few topics. I have recently had a knee operation so all I can do(at a high level of effort) really is cycle at the moment. If the bug bites I'll look at getting a higher quality bike but for the mean time I am looking for an entry level bike((29er) that is new. I know a second hand higher quality bike(26er) is often suggested but as I said if the bug bites I'll upgrade. I'm going to be mainly riding on the wine farms around the Cape so nothing too hectic for now. I am looking at the following bikes: "Titan Ryde 29er 2016" or "Titan Cruz 29er 2015" or "Merida Big 9 20D" My price range is between R4000 to R6000. a few questions: 1) Any other suggestions of new bikes in that price range? 2) I am just over 100kg so would these bikes be alright? 3) Best/Most resonable bike shops in the Cape? 4) I'm 1.79m, what size frame would i need? Thanks guys really appreciate the help
