  1. Scott's Genius range of bikes have formed part of their line-up for more than a decade and has undergone numerous refinements since its introduction. In 2013, the Genius was launched in 27.5" and 29” wheels sizes with the 27.5" 700 series featuring 150mm of travel, while the 29" 900 series have 130mm of travel. SCOTT Sports SA sent us a 150mm Genius 740 to test. Click here to view the article
  2. We caught up with Scott Factory Racing powered by LCB at the Coetezenburg track ahead of the SA National XCO Championships. We chatted to Philip Buys and followed the team as they surveyed the wet course. Click here to view the article
  3. Hi, I have been riding for about a year now and want to move from a 26" Silverback to a 29" Full sus. I have 3 bikes in mind but cannot seem to choose a bike. They all cost the same so the price issue isnt a factor. The three bikes I have looked at is the Scott Spark 940, Giant Anthem X (Upgraded to Crest Wheels) and Silverback Sprada 1. With me staying in the Garden Route I ride alot of offroad with a few single tracks here and there. Please help!!! -Johnathan
  4. Good day all out there ... I have a question if anybody else has possibly experienced the same problem ... and how they managed to get round it ... The magnet for my cadence sensor does not fit between the frame of my Scott Solace and the crank .. I see there are possibly magnets that fit into the pedal socket, has anybody had experience with these, or other methods of solving the problem? Thanks!
  5. At World Cup races it's all about the #huntforglory! These are the moments that motivate me to give my all so that I can achieve my goals. Nove Mesto, with its superb atmosphere and great riding is definitely one of my favorite races- I love to battle there. Click here to view the article
  6. Ok, so I am down to two ... Scott Solace 30: Pro's: Wheel set better of the two Shimano 105 brake calliper - front Con's: 2014 edition of the 105 giving it only 10 speed Don't know if I like the idea of a brake caliper under the BB? Roubaix Pros Full 2015 105 kit so 11 speed... Cons: Axis wheel set and brake calipers Any constructive Suggestions from anybody out there that has one of these? I have crossed the Trek Madone 4.3 off the list, and the Giant TCR ... Thanks
  7. Hi Guys, I'm looking at getting into MTbing, particularly like the idea of stage races (W2W, Sani etc.,). Any advice regarding the following bikes would be greatly appreciated: 1. Momsen Vipa AC 2. Giant Anthem 3. Scott Spark 940 Thanks
  8. Looking to buy a 29er carbon hardtail. Budget is ±R35k. Would like to stick with Shimano shifters. Current options are... A) Scott Scale 920 @ R35,999 B) Specialized Stumpjumper Comp Carbon 29 @ R32,999 C) ? Recommendations/pros/cons? Frame issues? Difficulty to get a warrany replacement? Please keep in mind the budget is around R35k. Please also state why you recommend it over A and B. Price? Better carbon? Better groupset? Lighter? Cheaper? Warranty? etc.
  9. “N1NO – The Hunt for Glory” is Nino Schurter`s first set of “webisodes.” The new video series features various chapters illustrating Nino`s colorful life as a professional mountain bike athlete during the pre-olympic year. It´s not only about how Nino prepares for the biggest goal of his career, the golden medal in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, but it‘s also about shredding trails, travelling around the world, and all the fun that mountain biking brings. 10. On my Scott - I have a Nude 2 shock (as comes standard). The first one lost pressure overnight, it was replaced and the new one has been working well for over a year now.....until Sat. I decided to check the rebound setting on the Fri, adjusted the rebound fully open, then fully closed riding over a pavement to get a feel of the return speed, then adjusted to the middle until I got what I felt was about right - fast/slow.... Since then, and for the whole race on sat (good thing the route was edited (USN #5)) it has only had half the normal travel. This happens irrespective of which mode it is in (apart from lockout of course). I have tried fiddling with the rebound, let all the air out and re-pumped it and the same result. It seems to work fine, apart from the travel which now stops half way. I have sent it in - but was wondering if anyone had had the same experience....and what caused/causes it.
  11. As the heading says what to get.... Will be looking for 2 ... 1 for me and one for the father in law as he is also ready for an upgrade... Cannondale Jekyll 27.5 OR Scott Genius LT OR Yeti SB 75 OR 2014 GT Force OR do we wait for the new Sanction?? THEN - the holy grail - BUT you can only get it in like August YT Capra WHAT ARE YOUR GUYS THOUGHTS????
  12. First time posting and wanting to get my first bike. I saw this special and desperately wanted to order but they only have an XS (15") it is just a bit too small, I thought I'd share it. Scott Aspect 610 -2013 for R5999.99 - new. http://www.vbike.co.za/scott-aspect-610-2013/ No, I have nothing to do with vbike, but from other posts I've seen they are reputable. It seems like such a great deal, just not available in a small. Maybe another newbie on a tight budget or someone looking for an XS, could benefit....
  13. Hi, saw this on facebook. Contact the claremont SAPS. They are also wanting info on the dude.

  15. Ive just moved up here from cape town and with all the changes ive been looking around to get a new bike as well. Im looking at scott, could you guys maybe point me to a cycle shop that is not morningside cycles as they can not be bothered to answer mail or pick up phones. Really makes me miss CWC. Im living in orchards next to norwood and houton. If the shop happens to be close by that would be a bonus. Morningside guys (If theres anyone on the hub from morningside cycles). You should look at your website, your communication, responding to e-mails etc. you know its the 21st century. Will not visit your shop any time soon just because of this.
  16. Hey guys! My wife and I want to start doing Mtb'ing. We live in the Sandveld, about 50km from Clanwilliam. Around here there are dirt and gravel roads and maybe we'll go to the Cedarberg once in a while. Main idea is to get fit and stay in shape. I've done a bit of research already, but at the moment I'm still not sure whether I should rather go for a well spec'd 26er vs the bigger wheels with lower specs. Keep in mind the budget at the moment is about R15k for both bikes and I'm 1,71m tall and my wife around 1,65m. I would prefer R8-9k for my bikes and R6-7k for wife's bike. She doesn't REALLY care, as long as "it's pretty".... you know haha! Here is what I found so far: 26" 2013 Scott Aspect 610 26er for R7500 - http://www.evanscycles.com/products/scott/aspect-610-2013-mountain-bike-ec042353 2013 GT Zaskar Elite 26er for R9350 - http://www.gtbicycles.com/int/2013/bikes/mountain/xc/zaskar-elite 29" 2013 Momsen AL 329 for R8500 - http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/momsen-al329-2013?quicktabs_1=1#quicktabs-1 2013 Silverback Vida 2 for R10 000 - http://www.bicycling.co.za/bike-buyers-guide/vida-2-29er/ WIFE Titan 650B Sport - http://www.cyclefactory.co.za/index.php/bikes/27-5-mtb/titan-calyp-650b-sport-detail Giant Tempt 4 - http://www.cyclefactory.co.za/index.php/bikes/27-5-mtb/giant-tempt-275-4-detail Silverback Splash 1 http://www.silverbacklab.com/upload/2011_website_SILVERBACK/splash1_14.htm Momsen LA 651 650b - http://www.cwcycles.co.za/product/momsen-650b-la651-2014 This is what I've got so far in my price range.... The rest all seem to have Alivio/Acera/Deore components and I'm allergic to buy anything to replace it in the near future. I would actually prefer a 27,5" but I don't seem to find anything that's worth looking at in my price range for that size. ANY other suggestions welcome! Also any critique and advise! I appreciate your input guys!
  17. Hi All. I had a blond moment. I stripped down the rear triangle and removed the bearings etc as I have had the bike now for a year. I made sure not to loose any of the spacers etc, my problem is that I did not realize that they are not just spacers but they have lips on the inner edge on one side, and I did not check which way they are supposed to sit when I took them off. I have checked and re-greased all the bearings, they all spin smooth so all is ok there. I re assembled the bike last night and I put back the spacers the way that makes sense to me but I am not sure. with the pivots not torqued it moves freely, not connected to the shock, but once torqued down the recommended specs it is not free moving anymore but it does move. who can tell me which way the spacers go?
  18. Hey everyone I'm very new to mountain biking and walked into the LBS and saw this bike. I basically bought a very entry level beginner bike two weeks ago (avalanche xxix 29er) to see if this was just another itch or actually something that could develop into a serious hobby. Well I'm two weeks down the line and ready to spend R13000 excluding gear on a bike, and this bike really got my attention and was also highly recommended by the guys at the Lbs. So my question is would you recommend this bike or something else in that price range? Would love to do some single tracks in the outeniqua mountains and eventually some friendly races further down the line this year. Thanks in advance
  19. Hi guys new to road cycling and looking at getting a Scott ADF team bike, know it's fairly old and had a crack repaired on the frame.. It's a 61 cm so like pulling teeth to find but just wanted to get some opinions on the bike and if a crack repaired properly is any problem. It's going for R4200 so any advice would be great.. Regards Peter
  20. Hey guys, I see Giant doesn't list the BB height or BB drop for their bikes. I'm in the market for a 27.5" XC bike and it boiled down to either the Anthem 27.5 1 or the Scott Spark 740. I prefer the spec of the Anthem but I would like some confirmation on the BB height. Are there any current owners who wouldn't mind measuring this for me please? I wouldn't want less than about 325mm clearance. Thanks
  21. Hi There, So I am pretty new to Mtbing, have been riding for about a yer now and see a lot of guys recommend upgrading the wheels on your bike as one of the best upgrades. I currently have a Scott Spark 950 with the standard alexrims xc 49 wheels on. I know most people say these are not very good rims, but they have served me well. What I would like to know is - what would the advantages be of changing to say Stans ZTR rims? I would go for the Arch as I weigh 95kgs. Is it all about weight/ strength? What would be the difference between the Stans 3.30 hubs and my standard deore hubs? Thank you
  22. Any opinions on these 2 bikes? I like the lockout on the Scott but the Vipa looks so hot. What else should I look at at the R40k mark?
  23. Just wondering how many people have problems with the Scott Sparks. I had problems with the shocks, rear and front. The BB gets worn out, in other words the frame wears out. Its a awesome bike, and rides like a dream. Scott have exchanged my frame x 3 times, with no issues, and the 4th one is on the way. Whats the hubs thoughts? Shocks stuffed again, but is it worth it to put Rp23 with CTD on and front schock with CTD to remove lockout lever(broke 2 and ist pricey to replace)
  24. I'm sure there're dozen of similar threads in here... but if you've got yhe time and feel like adding your input I'd appreciate it. After 3 years of EXCELLENT service from my converted Scott Aspect SS, I've decided I think I deserve a 29'er SS Specific bike. I've more than likely decided on a Momsen STR and I was going to go with very basic but durable parts to build... basic Handle bar, seat post , stem etc Deore Crank Magic rims Surly cogs and chain rings to name a few But .... then i got thinking ... maybe I should pimp it... but just a bit, without breaking the bank! I'm trying to get away with around mid to high teens thousands (but would like it to hopefully be sub 20) on the build. If you were doing this , what would you do?
  25. So with the pino gate scandal... Who can we contact to check out bikes? All brands. For pinarello it is A.S.G Email serial number to winston@asgworkd.co.za For giant For scott For cannonade
