  1. So, I like this cycling thing quite a bit. With the GP Road Race Champs just up the road from me yesterday I decided to make the effort to go attend. We pitched at 15h00, thinking we will see some serious excitement as this would be right towards the business end of the various races. Firstly, the attendance seemed very sad, just a couple of Gazebo's strewn along Soutpansbergweg for families supporting their husbands, fathers, mothers, sisters etc taking part. I have since just finally accepted that cycling is not a spectator sport, at least not for people physically attending events, even on a short course setup as we had yesterday. You see the cyclists for 10s every lap, with no idea what has transpired on the rest of the lap. I had no idea which riders were in the race and where they were placed. We left after standing around for about 30mins. Somebody needs to seriously consider something new to get non-cyclists excited about these events. Mount some Go-Pros on the Race Commissionaire cars and have someone narrating the action from the car as the race unfolds. Stream all of this to Youtube and people might actually know what is going on out there. This morning, I have not been able to find out what happened in terms of results. I found Reinardt JvR on Strava and see in his description that he finished 3rd. Other than that, nothing. And then on another tangent, can somebody please explain the whole structure of the Provincial champs and how they feed into nationals? Someone like Nicholas Dlamini and Darryl Impey who currently sits in Aus, do they get a free pass to nationals etc?

  3. Okay guys & girls! Its just after the 2018 - 36One event and the organizers have been fast off the block to give us the 2019 dates for another round of dust eating endurance racing 387 days to go! (From time of posting) 17 May 2019 - 19 May 2019 Who is going for the 1st time? Who is mad enough to be going again? (Me ) What plans - training and races leading up to next year have you got planned? Hopefully we can have a year of chats and camaraderie sharing training tips, plans and stories from this forum.... Please feel free to hook up! Maybe we can entice the likes of The Tortured Souls to give it another bash...... but we know they will! Wondering what time the early bird entries will open? Good luck all.
  4. Hi, anyone have Garmin route file for 2019 947 Ride Joburg which I can import into my Garmin? Or if you have the Strava file, that would also work. Please. thanks.
  5. Belgian team looking like a real threat. Looking forward to see the team list published for Netherlands as well.
  6. Having a look at the mtb races this year to sign up for, having checked the following website, are there any that I might have missed or should have a second look at? Keen on just enjoyable MTB races, like the STBB (holding thumbs they coming back this year), Grabouw MTB, Nissan Trailseeker (wellington), Tiletoria, etc. - https://www.stillwatersports.com/event/ - https://www.pedalpower.org.za/events/ - https://www.dirtopia.co.za/index.php/mtbcalendar - https://www.entryninja.com/events/event - There seems to be good news about some that is coming back for 2019, and some that just seem to have gone missing, and some that have changes in format (ie Grabouw weekend warrior) Who knows of races that might be also worth a look at (already signed up for the Autumn Splendour MTB and considering the Pioneer School race in Worcester).
  7. We spent 2 weeks in Turkey over December 2013, absolutely loved it. Going to see if I can follow the racing, especially through Istanbul today. Only a handful of World Tour Teams riding, so DDD might have a chance at snatching a victory or two if they play their cards right.

  9. Good afternoon folks! Hope those who cycled this weekend didn't get blown over by the wind, it sure is pumping out here in the Souf! Seeing as it's my 30th living year in 2019, I'd like to set myself a probably not very unique challenge, but a unique challenge to myself. I want to attempt to finish 30 events. I'm interested in cycling, mostly road but a bit of MTB is fine, nothing next level technical. Pretty strong runner, on and off road. Swimming, well, I don't bother with that! My cycling list, just out of memory looks like this so far (7) Fast OneR4VR4S947EmperorsAmashovaMidvaal 100Events I've missed out on that look appealing (3): Race to the SunTrapNet 360Garmin MTB race (I know I'm going to miss it, but at R50 entry!!)Running list: DischemRundelaRhythm runPharmaton EdenvaleI prefer events in Central Gauteng, but am willing to travel within reason. Races in other provinces are appealing only if one can make a weekend out of it. I'd like your contributions! Thanks!
  10. Hi anyone reading this post, Looking for a partner of similar level for 2019 race. I am 41, train intensively ~600h/year, race UCI Marathon series (best result 27th GC), won 20-30ish UCI pts each of the last few seasons. However, I ride my bike for fun, because it like it, not beacause I have too. Easy going personality welcomed, man or elite woman. Alex
