  1. I got it on very good authority that there is no formal bikehub fantasy planned for La Vuelta 2017. Luckily superbru does a semi decent competition that requires almost zero input from the organiser - we had 15 people on it during the TdF, they have been reinvited. As I'm lank lazy, this suits me fine. I will do my best to ensure any admin stuff gets done before it kicks off by 12 noon on saturday. You do need to check in every 2/3 days as the picks are quite fluid (ie, you select from who is still in the race - none of this valverde out on first corner rubbish stuffing up your roster!)   2. Hi All. I am looking to buy a new Helmet. I want to get something of good quality. Budget of 2k. Had a look at the Giro Chronicle, POC Trabec, Rudy Protera and Uvex Quattro. Any advice or reviews on these? Or other options? All assistance will be much appreciated.

  4. Hello Hubbers, I've been looking through the forums and can't seem to find a definitive answer to the problems I face. Sooo... Firstly Shoes... I have a budget of 2k for my shoes. I would really like something that has the boa system because i think its frikken awesome but please let me know if its any good. So basically what is a good shoe in the 2k range? Should I get something like a first ascent torque 2 or an flr f55 or something shimano... or should I save up and get the Specialized Expert? Have also seen the Fizik m5 boa, those are also cool, but again is it the best in this price range. I am leaning toward the Giro Cylinder because it has get boa system and it looks pretty awesome, but are the shoes good? So basically I'm just trying to find out whats a good brand to go with for quality and value for the money that I end up spending. Also, where are the good shops in Johannesburg that I can shop at for good deals? Secondly pedals, I want to ride trail as well as start doing some good distance on the road... I want to go clipless and I have found pedals for sale on the hub that I will get... I just want to know which is better between the Shimano m520 and the m530... Is the extra cage on the 530 better?   7. ...away and as it appears neither 'Berto, Froome or Quintana are competing I am going to say this will be the year for Valverde to shine. Astana's wonder boy last year in Mikel Landa has been conspicuous by his absence from the leader board since joining Sky and in my opinion Nibali is pretty much washed up, Aru says he is planning on the TDF and Uran is so hit and miss these days I cant really consider him, so who else....Majka maybe, Pozzovivo, Hesjedal.......I dunno, he field isnt looking great so far.

  9. With the Spring Classics, and soon the Monuments, in full swing – I thought I’d squeeze in the proposed Fantasy Giro | Tour | Vuelta scoring format for 2016. The 2015 competition worked well, but rewarded riders that had a mix of riders across all the scoring categories rather than matching the real-life performance of each rider. 2016 will return to the classic format rewarding pot-luck, with a bit of insider knowledge. Points are heavily weighted in favour of the daily stages, and possible breakaways. The only other significant change will be the unlimited use of your substitutes, with the changes limited to the two rest days. A handful of Hubbers played a simplified version of the Vuelta last year, which worked well, but with riders pulling out before the World Champs (or fatigue), pot-luck played a big roll in the overall scoring. The Giro 2016 will be the test-run using the new scoring format, so you can get your picks fine-tuned before July. I’m open to suggestions, as long as it’s simple to implement, and easy to understand. The new proposal is as follows: Pick 12 riders (9 active + 3 subs)The 9 active riders will score points every day.Substitutions can only be made on the rest days.A rider previously substituted can be brought back in on the second rest day, if needed.The only time you lose a rider from your team is when he withdraws from the Tour. Via VeloNews http://velonews.competitor.com/2015/09/news/giro-2016-route-accidentally-leaked_386877 MILAN (VN) — The 2016 Giro d’Italia route was accidentally made public Wednesday night, five days early. Organizer RCS Sport saw its crown jewel shown to all before it had intended to do so at the EXPO 2015 in Milan. Italian website Cicloweb revealed that if one changed the date in the URL from 2015 to 2016 on RCS Sport’s Gazzetta website then the Ghiera or ring design of next year’s Italian grand tour would display. VeloNews reached out to RCS Sport’s cycling division, but representatives did not respond in time for this article. The 21 stages below show the first three in the Netherlands, which RCS Sport announced in June, the Chianti vineyard time trial it unveiled in September, and the Friuli-Venezia Giulia mountain stage released last week. Interestingly, the race will feature three different individual tests: a short opening time trial, the Chianti TT, and a uphill time trial in stage 15. The remaining 16 stages were not meant for public consumption until 14:00 local time Monday in Milan when RCS Sport’s bosses, including cycling director Mauro Vegni, will officially release the 2016 route. ASO, organizer of the Tour de France, made the same mistake in 2011 when its route briefly appeared on its website. The leaked and still unofficial stages show the Giro heading north from Italy’s toe through the Campania, Abruzzo, and Umbria regions to reach Tuscany for the time trial and first rest day. The big mountains begin with Corvara (Alta Badia) and continue through the Alps to the west into France for a stage to Risoul and Sant’Anna di Vinadio on the final weekend. Along the way, the cyclists will face a third time trial, an uphill test on the Alpe di Siusi. The race ends May 29 with a flat sprinters’ stage not in Milan, but in Turin. In addition to the three time trials, the route offers seven stages for sprinters and one that reaches 234 kilometers. For the exact details, however, fans will have to tune in Monday.   11. The Canadian currently rides for Cannonade-Garmin and the move brings to an end an eight-year association with the Garmin half of that merger, where he has ridden since its inception in 2008. The highlight of Hesjedal's career came when he won the 2012 Giro d'Italia and he was fifth in this year's edition of the race before riding to third on the final mountain stage of the Tour de France to l'Alpe d'Huez. The 34-year-old will now join forces with Bauke Mollema as part of Trek's GC ambitions, with a particular focus on next year's Giro. "I have excellent memories from the past seasons and I have a lot of friends there. But I’m thrilled about this change of air. I believe it’s what I needed," said Hesjedal in a team statement. "I am very excited about this. Trek’s management and I are on the same page in terms of what we can achieve together. I know that I still have podium level legs for the Grand Tours. People ask me if I’m contemplating the end of my career. If I was, the circle would now be complete," he added, referring to the fact he began his professional career riding a Trek bicycle for US Postal in 2004. "The truth is I don’t really know how long I’ll still be racing. As far as performance goes, and how I feel, I feel there’s still a lot in there. This year’s Giro was a confirmation of that. But yes, I don’t see myself racing for another five years. One, two or three, we’ll see." Hesjedal's priority will be to try and repeat his Giro triumph of 2012 but he will also target the Ardennes Classics as preparation. The Canadian has a string of top-10 finishes to his name in those races, including second at Amstel Gold in 2010. "The Ardennes Classics will be important as well," he said. "You basically work backwards with the Giro being the number one goal. The rhythm to get to your best shape in the Giro leads you to those races. I know the routine to get there." The signing was announced by Trek Factory Racing in a slightly unorthodox but thoroughly modern manner, via a series of cryptic clues on Twitter, as set out below.
