  1. Hi Guys, now that we have our own Track tab, this thread follows on from the Gauteng Track cycling one under Single speed.
  2. Running from 26 February - 01 March this is sure to be a good warm-up for the Olympic games. And full coverage on SuperSport! The Danes threw out the book last night in the Team Pursuit!
  3. Good day everyone, I recently bought an extra small Hansom bike and I'm in the process of stripping it down and building it back up as a single speed. All the parts and frame seem to be in good order including paintwork. My problem is though that the tyres need replacing and I've been having a hard time finding the right size. The only information that I can get so far are from the tyres itself. The one Tyre that I have shows the size "650C/19-571", rim band says "18-559" and on the rim it reads "571x15 - 6106". Anybody able to help me out with a bit more information about the sizing as well as where I could possibly buy the tyres from? Sourcing them so far has been proving fruitless I'll post pictures when I'm closer to finishing off.
  4. Hi guys please help Jean Spies get to the Olympics, as we know this would be self funded expedition, he has had phenomenal support from his UK based sponsor - still needs a bit more assistance to get to all the major races worldwide to qualify though. If you may please donate where possible to the below page; https://clickndonate.com/spies-project-road-to-tokyo-2020-olympics-goal-2-000-000/ Thank you!
  5. Track cycling in Gauteng has been very underrated as a way of getting the kids or adults on bikes and teaching them skills. It is an awesome way to develop your cycling skills, how to sit in a slip, how to ride shoulder to shoulder in a bunch and still feel comfy. You are in a controlled environment with a very inexpensive bike or rental for that matter. There are 38 league races a year at Hector Norris Park alone, devided into a number of smaller leagues. Riders are split into 3 batches A - Batch consists of mainly elite and competitive riders, B- Batch consists of some competitive Masters and up and coming Youth riders, C batch is for beginner cyclists and the very little kids as young as 7 and their parents, should they want to give it a try. Once a month there is a kids specific focus. On this day a track intro course is usually presented in the morning. Race entry fees are minimal and club bikes can be rented for the day. All you need is to complete a track intro course at one of our two velodromes in Pretoria or Jhb. Join CSA - https://www.cyclingsa.com/membership/ , df you are not already a CSA member, and you are ready to start having some of the best fun you can on a bike.
  6. Howzit guys, So my friend and I are planning to go through to Stellenbosch on Saturday to go ride Jonkershoek for the first time. I heard from a few people that it is an amazing track. I am also eager for a new track, so really looking forward to it. Can you guys who have ridden the track please give us advice on what to expect. How long would one ride? How much water will you need? Nutrition? Climbing? Distance? The price of permit? How late does the track open? Any other feedback will be much appreciated as I just want to be prepared for the day. Thanks. ~ André
  7. Hi All, This post is just to give a big thank you and raise awareness for the Introduction to Track Cycling hosted by George and Sheldon at Pilditch Stadium. I was lucky enough to hear about them through word of mouth and received a date to join the track training. I arrived extremely ill prepared (miscommunication on my part), but George and Sheldon went out of their way to accommodate me. Besides that, they tought me a whole lot- enough so that I went from zero knowledge of track cycling to being very comfortable on the steep Pilditch banks as well as the pre ride safety inspection. I'd like to profusely thank them for the major effort on their part in not just accommodating me, but the regular time they take out of their personal lives to ENCOURAGE TRACK CYCLING. You guys are great additions to the cycling community! For further reading and bookings should you want to also learn about track cycling you can look up the following link for Pilditch Cycling Track on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pilditchcycling/
