  1. I have a titan racing rouge sport 2023 and i love how it rides but i feel like it needs to be more maneuverable at the back. Im new to mountain biking, so if the pros and cons can be shared, if you have done it before or if it is even possible please let me know.
  2. We bought our gardener a Raleigh Nexus 2.0 29" bicycle. The frame is nice but the shifters and V brakes are not good. He took it to a local repair shop and they buggered it up by replacing the rear shaft bolt (so now the warranty is voice) and the hub cone is missing so the whole rear wheel wobbles. I've cycled a lot but know very little about the parts so I'm struggling to find a replacement online that I can buy to fix this. I'll add images here to show the issue. If someone can help me find the right replacement or suggest alternative fix that would be appreciated. He's a young guy from Malawi and he takes great pride in his bicycle which he rides to work every day, so I really want to help him. I'm also going to start looking for 2nd hand shifters and disc brakes that I can use to improve the bike for him. VID_20240217_160011.mp4 VID_20240217_160028.mp4
  3. Hi All im new to daily cycling i have a a fixed speed finnis 540. my issue is I'm really struggling on my daily commute 90% of which is on a steep uphill. firstly i know that a fixed speed bike isnt going to make this commute any easier but as someone who is extremely unfit and overweight(130kg) i want to make sure that I can also enjoy my morning commute with out arriving at work in dire need of a shower. so i have been contemplating getting an E-bike for the ride and also to possibly to start doing some trails on weekends. I come here with a few questions: 1) is it actually worth the purchase? will it make that big of a difference on the daily commute or am i just better off sucking it up for the ride? 2)should i convert my current bike or just get a new one? 3) is there anywhere in and around joburg that i could rent or a hire a bike to try it out for myself to see if it is actually worth it ?
  4. Hey everyone! I'm a fairly active woman, in my mid-twenties (1.68 m tall) looking for a mtb within a budget of approximately 3.5 to 4.8k. I just had my entry-level Raleigh nomad 90 26" bike stolen. So, looking to slightly upgrade from this. My aim is to find something that is budget-friendly as well as won't need replacing within a year or two at least. I would potentially like to enter races in the future, I used to run 5 and 10k races (with the intention to do longer ones) but recently stopped due to achilles injuries. I have heard that road bikes tend to be more difficult to ride for beginners. I live in Somerset West so would be riding around here and possibly to Stellenbosch. I found a few second-hand bikes which I will list below: -GT Karakoram 3.0 29" wheels, 3x9 groupset, medium frame. Hydraulic disc brakes. Grossmark 11 alexrims MD19 tyres. Shimano Alvio gear set. rear derailleur. Shimano Acera crankset. for 5.5k (a bit out of my budget). -GT Karakoram medium frame with deore xt components. Magura brake levers. 29-inch new Hornet tubeless tyres (ridden twice). New saddle. Just had a service. Spare saddle and cycle clothing included. At 4.9k. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/551320800270968/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post -Titan Racing Calypso Cruz 650b medium frame 27.5-inch wheels. tubeless Vittore tyres. Hydraulic disc brakes. Shimano Altus rear derailleur.. All Shimano components for 6.5k. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/713574107217115/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post Titan Calypso 27.5" tyres. Unsure of sizing, https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/572736628032405/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post -Titan Racing Rogue SE second hand for 5.5k. Ad did not include specs but the bike is apparently close to brand new, have added a link to the official site for specs here https://titanracingbikes.com/bikes/rogue-se/ -Merida 1: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/213050991346228/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post 2: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1305792310280194/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post What would be the best bang for my buck out of the above? Or alternatively any other recommendations in this range? Any advice would be greatly appreciated Updated: links Thanks in advance.
  5. Hey everyone, I'm fairly new to the cycling scene. I recently had my raleigh nomad 90 mtb stolen and I'm looking to upgrade and replace it. Is the Merida Matts TFS 500 a decent entry level bike? It's going for about 4k. Unsure what year this model is. I have another post up about other bikes that I've seen online but I thought I'd message about the Merida separately as no one has responded to those. Thanks in advance.
  6. Hallo I am looking for advise on how to fasten a bike on a bakkie with cattlebars/railings/tralies. I saw that you get arms with clamps on both sides, like the westfalia bikelander, but can't seem to find the arms seperate. Does anyone know where I can find them om simular arms with clamps on both sides? Something like the attached photo. Or any other suggestions?
  7. Hi All, For someone at my height (168cm) I tend to fall between S & M frames on most hardtails. Does anyone have any advice on what I should be looking out for when shopping for my very first hardtail in terms of the size of the frame and ride positions?
  8. Hey all. I want to get a spinning bike with a heavier flywheel 18/20kg and possibly belt driven. Does anyone know of any good deals (new or used) or does anyone have something that they are willing to sell? I stay in Greenside in Johannesburg. Also any advice on buying a spinning bike?
  9. Hey guys, I'm not a pro biker of any sort, I'm simply wanting a solid enough bike for riding cross country / mountain and road trips, that is not super costly. Good brakes and shocks would be awesome. I dont know much about bikes so would greatly appreciate your advice I do know that I need an XL as I'm 6ft2 and dont want to be slouched over when cycling (I have posture issues Im working on as is due to sitting all day). Bridge Cycles has a Scott Aspect 940 or 950 2020 for 11k, a bit high but I had a Scott Aspect before I moved to UK for a year. These look interesting to me. https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/dual-suspension-bikes/439623/scott-genius-30-xl-carbon https://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/item/hardtail-mountain-bikes/439446/titan-29er-xl Thanks so much
  10. Nirvana: lightweight carbon gravel bike with 1x drivetrain Currently on the Hmmm ... let's see list is: Momsen 700 R355 2018 Momsen 700 R355 2019 (more likely) Silverback Siablo CF They are all much the same price (with Momsens on fat sale). Both Momsens are lighter than the Siablo, have better rims and hubs. Otherwise much of a muchness (I think?). Siablo looks great without paint, newer model. Anything with the new Shimano GRX system that my Google-zu cannot unearth? Any other brands/models to consider (in similar – or less – price range)? Anyone with a small carbon gravel bike with 1x system itching to upgrade?
  11. Hi, I'm currently doing a much needed upgrade to my bike and I'm in the market for new tires front and rear. I ride a 29" hardtail for XC and only do 3-4 races a year, so I want the most comfortable tire combination for my style. I'm currently considering a Maxxis Ardent 2.4 in the front and Ikon 2.2 in rear. (Currently run Ikon F/R). Any other combinations that I should consider? Or any comments on my choice? Thx
  12. Hello fellow bikehubbers. So awhile back I was extremely fortunate to win the Oakley x Ubuntu Bikes competition sponsored by The Lake Magazine. I was ecstatic, and still am. The bike is a beauty in it's own right. The only thing is the bike is made from a mixture of parts, and most likely more of a collector's item than a full-on fixie. I have ridden it more than a few times, but I am quite afraid to switch from freewheel to the fixed gear considering the parts and a chance of something breaking. I can only seem to find the name of three parts which is the crank and chainring both are Suntour SR and the hubs are Shimano. I would just want to know what I could get for this bike, because I am considering to buy a more purpose built fixie. TIA, Oscar The bike: http://www.ubuntubikes.com/lake-magazine-x-oakley-fixie-colloaboration/

  15. Hi, Wonder if anybody has done this ride before, or could shed some light on which roads would be the best to take and avoid. My mate is turning 30 and has always wanted to cycle to langebaan. Seeing he is the one that got me into cycling, I thought there is no better way to celebrate than to make this a reality for him. Starting point: Vida Durbanville - Middle Ville Centre, Wellington Rd, Durbanville, Cape Town, 7550 Finish: Langebaan - On Tac Beach, Corner of Bree and Beach Road, 8 Main Jacoba, Langebaan, 7357 We will have a support vehicle following us. Thanks in advance.
  16. Hey Hubbers So I have managed to wind up in Greyton sans mtb and with my road bike. Hoping for some advice on where I can go as want to avoid gravel grinding as much as possible. Ive plotted out out a route that spends some time on the N2 as it looks like theres a nice climb near botrivier that id like to hit. (is this a bad idea...?) Here is the route so please go wild, rip it up and suggest alternatives - Im all ears! https://www.strava.com/routes/11122265 TIA Luke
  17. Hi guys My little man is 18 months old and a while back I took him to Sea Point and rented one of those Up Cycle bikes. He smiled from ear to ear for the whole hour we had the bike. So I caved and bought an old Peugeot and child carrier (giant) to take him on more rides. I'll be the first to admit that I've got ten thumbs when it comes to handyman jobs so some installation advice would be grand: The bike rack part of the carrier is meant to mount on the back wheel, but there doesn't seem to be enough space/the skewer is too short. Does one get longer skewers especially for this or am I just missing something simple? Thanks!
  18. Hi Guys, I am new to the cycling community. Me and a friend decided to take up cycling as hobby for socialising while getting fit. We didn't much want to be stuck in a gym exercising and decided we could explore our city in the sun and having fun. After doing some research and visiting various cycling stores, I narrowed my list down to two options, both of which stretched the budget for a simple socialising thing. I came to the forum because I couldn't decide which bike was better. The Scott Contessa 620 (26" 2015 model) or the Silverback Splash 3 (27.5" 2016 model). I initially only thought a 26" or below (kiddies) bikes would fit me seeing as I am only 1.50m in height(shorty - I know) . However I fitted an extra small frame and found I could actually fit on a 27.5" bike. The thing is now I am not sure which to chose? Most people are saying that the Scott is better brand... The stores i want to buy them from are biased to their own product (some are more gentlemanly than others). But i was hoping someone here could explain it better? I tried doing some research but jargon used explaining about the different shimano shiffters and what not, or how they work, is way over my head. Basically I started out by just wanting to get me a normal Marko bike, but after reading various comments and taking advice, I decided to stretch the budget more in order to get me a better bike. So hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction? Thanks for your time Best regards
  19. A lot of times you may have something that you might want to sell, but don't know what it's worth; so I thought that I would start this thread so that if ther's something that you want to sell that you don't know the value of(at least on the hub), someone might be able to help with a fair price to advertise it for. I'll start off everything by asking what this Selle Italia Trans Am is worth in the following condition:
  20. I've been getting, on average, two flats per ride. And it sucks... Always the back tyre and (this part I can't quite explain yet) almost always going downhill (probably because I'm not going fast enough on flats!). The back wheel is a Bianchi Reparto Corse and there was, what I can only describe as a "bump" each time the area where the white spokes are, hit the ground. I reckoned the wheel needs truing and that it can somehow be linked to the punctures. Wheel somewhat trued, the flats continued. On my last ride, while changing another flat tyre, I noticed that the rim tape seemed to have moved slightly, exposing a sliver of one of the spoke holes. This is, I'm hoping, the cause of the punctures. I want to buy some rim tape to fix it myself. Are there things to look out for, like a set width or brand that is best? Muchas gracias in advance.
  21. Hey everyone I entered the Trans Drak MTB race this coming weekend. Last year I did the Trans Baviaans and would like to know how the Drak compares? Also any advice, since this one I am attempting solo. Lastly does anyone know the condition of the trails and roads there after the rain? Thanx for the help
  22. Hi Guys I am a 23 year old girl, a bit overweight so I set a goal of completing my first Olympic style triathlon in November (the 5150). Only been training for a week - swimming in the morning before work and running when I don't have evening class (which is over weekends). Anyway, I need to buy a road bike. I am in no rush as I can train on a mountain bike in the mean time. I'll be going to a recycle sport shop tomorrow and will report back here In the mean time - what do you think about https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/204788-merida-scultura-juliet-904-carbon-small/ I have been on gumtree as well: http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-sports-bicycles-fitness/port-elizabeth/fuji-altair-for-sale/1001757504980910412502409 http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-sports-bicycles-fitness/port-elizabeth/raleigh-tri6000/1001757164740910266163709 http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-sports-bicycles-fitness/port-elizabeth/road-bike-for-sale/1001699564350910444487609 Budget isn't really an issue but I'd prefer going second hand in case it's a one time thing (which I am hoping it's not) Thanks!
  23. Hello So I've been doing indoor spinning for 5 months now,and I'd like to join the group who goes mountain biking over weekends for the real deal. First I need a proper bike, before going shopping for a bike,I'm trying to figure out what size I should be looking for. I'm 1.61m and my inseam is 72cm. Thanks in advance
  24. Hi All I am a newbie cyclist and looking to purchase this Merida Road race series road bike from a friend. He said I should make him an offer. Being a newbie, I have no idea what this sort of bike would go for second hand. He bought it for R12 000 a few years back, road it (literally) once or twice and did a 94.7 cycle challenge, however it is obviously a few years old. So I have heard conflicting amounts from R2000-R5000... Please could someone assist me by advising on how much it would be worth and how much I should be offering him for it? I obviously dont want to rip him off or be paying too much for something I could get for cheaper elsewhere... Photos attached... Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks team!
