  2. Hi guys, I have a question, and I am sure my fellow hubbers would conquered this issue before. I did not want to revive an old thread deadish thread, or highjack that thread, but I came from here: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/55832-thule-roofrack-on-bakkie/page-3. Basicly I own a 2016 Toyota Hilux Double cab fitted with an Armidillo Auto Roll Top Cover. I own a Scott aspect 910 aluminium bike, which I had from 2014. Currently I simply open the cover and load the bike on the back with the front wheel over the tailgate with a blanket or so between the bike and the tailgate. I am planning to buy a new carbon dual suspension bike and do not feel like this is a viable option anymore. The Armidillo cover does not come with rails to attach a roofrack to, and it will necessitate drilling into the cover and my bakkie, which I would like to avoid if at all possible. I must add that I would exploit having the loadbars by fitting a rooftop tent also, so this option from Skitch is quite attractive: It seems like it would be possible to mount the rooftop tent in between the bikes still: Have anyone here mounted roofracks over the Armidillo cover before, and if so, what would be the best route to go. The rooftop tent is an added bonus, and bike safety take precedent in any event. What are you guys' thoughts on the roofrack over the Armidillo, and the best way to go about it?

  5. Hi All I want to take my bike(mtb) down to Cape Town from Joburg. Is it better to fly with it or have it transported down by a courier? I phoned Kalula and they said It counts as a bag (so need to purchase an extra bag @ 290) plus the extra effort getting to and from airports. When I last had a bike shop send me a bike it cost R290 to send it from Cape Town - when I phoned the courier company to get a quote they said it would be R900 and that the LBS must have has an account with them to be able to send it for R290. My question is: Does anyone know of a reliable courier that can send a bike from JHB to CT and back for a reasonable price? Some even offer packaging and assembly/disassembly. Thanks, Brad
  6. Good evening, Firstly, not sure if I am posting in the correct category so excuse if it is not. I need to transport a road bike to Cape Town and then back to Jhb after the holidays. My issue is that I cannot afford a decent bike bag and now have subsequently opted for a cardboard bike box, bubble wrap and foam. I am however still looking for a cylindrical foam to protect the frame - something like a pool noodle but obviously would have to have a hole through the middle in order to cut through and affix on frame. Any thoughts on the above mentioned as well as if anyone knows where I may find the infamous `noodle` ? Thank you! Shaun
  7. (I hope I don't get in trouble for my play on words ) How tight should a clamp be tightened on a bike rack? I realize not all brands are the same, but I'm paranoid about (well,....many things )my bike falling off during transit, so I tighten the clamp quite a bit. Should the knob just be turned until it grabs the bike "comfortably" or is it ok for it to have a rather firm grip on the bike? I also use a piece of folded rubber matting like you'd use in a boot or a car to avoid the frame being scuffed by the clamp. I've got a Thule Euroway
  8. So, I've cracked a spot on a team for the DC So I've found accommodation So, I've booked plane tickets to Cape Town and rented a car Now all I need is someone to take my bike to Swellendam from Jo'burg, I know I can rent a box and put it on the plane, but it just seems like a huge pain. Any companies or individuals who are interested in providing this service?
