  1. Hi all, Hope all are well and safe. I need help with pricing on a power meter. I have a 4iiii Precision Ultegra left crank which I would like to sell. Bought the power meter the 8th of August 2018. Unit is still in a very good condition. Thanks for your time and input.
  2. Hi Hubbers! Now that the chill is upon us in Gangsta's Paradise, some (like me) will retreat to their Winter Pain Caves (or local VA). Just before LÉTape I followed one of Hunter Allen's 8 week Sportive training programs and it kept me occupied abd motivated. A few club members have told me about Training Peaks and TrainerRoad. To those who use these (or any other paid service), what do you guys recommend? Also, I only have an Andriod phone, not a tablet!
  3. There's a neat new series done by Pinkbike, revolving around the benefits of becoming a fully sponsored team rider vs a full-on privateer. Adam, a Pinkbike staff member, has been supporting himself through EWS and other Enduro / MTB racing for a long time, but has never been able to dedicate the same amount of hours as the sponsored riders, nor get access to the new kit, enhanced training, support and logistical benefits as the pro's have on tap. This series aims to show how much of a difference the step to a fully sponsored ride & team can make to "Adam Average" He's by no means a slouch, but up until now he's had to train when he can, and work to supplement it.
  4. I'm ready to pull the trigger on a power meter, but it's such an expensive piece of kit that I want to be sure I've considered everything before I buy. Thing is, I just don't really know enough about living with either unit to really know what I should be considering... I'm looking at the Quarq XX1 Eagle DUB Boost power meter with cranks or the Power2Max NG Eco equivalent (I already have XX1 cranks.) The Quarq is slightly more expensive, but I can always sell my existing XX1 cranks to make up the difference. From what I can tell both seem to perform perfectly fine, but it would be great to hear feedback from someone who has experience with both. Any other advice would be appreciated!
  5. So, I did a FTP test this evening. I've done quite a few before so I'm aware of the protocols of keeping everything the same etc etc. Haven't done one in a while so broke a few rules this time. Normally done in the morning, this time the evening. Last meal was at 13:00, probably also a big mistake. So all in all I was bloody stupid. I battled to get a rhythm. Started strong and quickly faded and ended up a drop of 10%. Granted I haven't been on the trainer or done any structured intervals in ages, does this have the largest bearing or was my poor nutrition etc the problem. Should I redo test or reset my FTP to what was achieved and just build from there? I was pretty fresh as I've not ridden since the CTCT.
  6. Quick question for those who use a Stages PM. I have the new Gen3 Carbon on my mtb. When riding hard off road i get 2 or 3 instant (less than 1 second) power and cadence spikes often while going down hill. They are 2,000w+ and cadence well above 200. It's nothing 'major' but it's just irritating. I use it with a Garmin Edge 820. My issue is that once my ride gets uploaded to GarminConnect and thus Strava automatically, the max power and max cadence values are wrong with no way to remove/correct them. I've tried using stages-link as i can apply the power/cadence rules to remove the spikes, but stages-link still uploads the original data to Strava with power/cadence spikes? Is there a way where the power/cadence spikes are removed before it gets onto Strava?
  7. Hi Guys Need some guidance from anyone using the Trainingpeaks Premium account. I am running with their annual training plan and using it as a guide to manage my weekly TSS. My query is around the Form and Fatigue indicators, I had a heavy TSS score last week due to a stage event over the weekend, plunging my Fatigue score way up and consequently my Form score way down. Today it's still sitting at Fatigue 66 and Form -33 The app naturally recommended some rest for the Monday, but it's still suggesting it for the past two days. I know its probably just an algorithm and I should listen to my body, but keen to hear your thoughts / experience on this. I did an interval session yesterday anyway which went okay - but I just want to make sure I guess.
  8. Evening Hubbers, Does anyone have, or know of someone, who has an indoor spinning bike, but with a power meter attached? Only possibilities I can think of a pedal and crank based. I know Stages have an indoor bike like that. Is it worth pursuing?
  9. Good morning, I realise there are severe inefficiencies and external factors that make this a difficult question to answer, but I'd like to glean a rough range of FTP/kg ranges that correspond to PPA seeding. This is not meant to be a discussion on the determination of FTP (and curse you if you quote your 20 minute estimate without first removing 5%), I've read Hunter Allen's book. I also don't want to get bogged down in the PPA seeding system, I realise it has its flaws but I think that in most cases it gives a very fair indication of ability. I like the below table and would love to see something similar that slots guys into seeding groups instead of classifying them as "world class" or "novice" source: https://www.trainingpeaks.com/blog/power-profiling/ Yes other things could also affect your seeding. Maybe you suck more wheels or do a lot of work at the front. Maybe you had one exceptional race, never to be repeated, because some strong guys dropped back to your seeding and helped you do a time well out of your range (I think this happened to me at Emperors by accident). Maybe you simply don't race tactically at all so your FTP indicates you should be seeded higher than you are. Despite all this I still think there should be a broad correlation. Humor me, it gives me something to work towards. If I knew 3.7W/kg would give me a decent chance of seeding in C that is somehow motivating. At the moment I have NO idea. My W/kg is 3.08 and my PPA index 26 or F seeding, measurements taken within weeks of one another. In the above table that puts me between Fair and Moderate.
  10. Hi Hubbers! Hope everyone had a great long weekend filled with quality time with family, and a few miles on the bike as well! Being relatively new to power training, and the obsession with weight and your power-to-weight ratio, can someone please clarify what weight they are talking about? Is it your body weight alone (birthday suit) or you, your bike, all of your kit, and water bottles, and whatever goodies you might ride/race with (puncture repair etc.)? Thanks!
  11. The combination of cold winter mornings and live coverage of the Tour de France makes training indoors the go-to for many cyclists and triathletes alike. Not only can you leave the thermals and toe caps off, but your indoor session can be just as effective (in certain cases, more effective), than training outdoors. There are a huge variety of training apps and aids out on the market, all designed to make your training easier, keep you entertained and make you want to train indoors. Although we are spoilt for choice with all the aids out on the marketing, let’s face it; training indoors isn’t nearly as exciting as getting out there. We know all the tricks in the book; from racing other cyclists online right through to watching the Tour in hope that it will inspire you to push through the next interval set. Although indoor training is mentally tough, there is one key factor that can change it for you. Music. The beat that drives your legs forward, the lyrics that transport you from the confines of four walls, the emotions that come from a few minutes of beautiful noise. Listening to music while you’re training can help your fatigue, boost your mood and helps you feel less pain. Choosing the right type of music for your training is what stands between you and the finish line. We want to know what your top three songs are for training indoors! Every week for the course of three weeks, we will award a pair of CycleOps socks to the best liked song list. At the end of the three weeks, we will award a CycleOps Winter Training Package to the overall top liked list. Turn up the music, close your eyes and let the beat take over. Submissions should be made in the following format, Artist, Song and Album (if known). The winner for each week will be announced every Monday (10th, 17th & 24th July 2017) with the grand price being announced on Tuesday the 25th July 2017
  12. Hi Guys Need some input on my indoor trainer set up. Being eyeing all the activity on Zwift activities etc and would like to enhance my current training experience if possible.. I currently have a Tacx Flow trainer which has served me well for a good few years now. It's paired with a Powertap so I am able to perform structured work outs with ease - via my Garmin. I generally just use the resistance settings of the trainer and my gearing to get into the required power zone. Is it at all possible to get a zwift / trainer road set up? I have being toying with the idea of getting a smart trainer but obviously feel that it might be overkill considering I already have the power meter? What would my options be? A cheaper smart trainer perhaps?
  13. Hi Hubbers! Thank you to those who recommended that I join Trainerroad. Going to give it a proper bash next week! Exploring the website last night I see that you could create and/or join teams. Is there a BikeHub team? If not, who will be interested in joining? Will be interesting to REALLY spy on members!
  14. Would you buy a Stages power crank or a 4iiii power crank for R2500 less? I can get a stages for R14500 or a 4iiii for R11000. Should I buy the 4iiii? Both are Dura ace crank arms.

  19. HI to all , I've had my Jetblack M1 trainer for a year now , but lately with an FTP of close to 300w I feel it doesn't provide enough resistance. I am looking at upgrading to a trainer with a exponential power curve and 400w resistance at 40km/h in the 2000-3000ZAR price range second hand. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
  20. So, who does cross training? What have you found to be the benefits? What have you found to be the 'down sides' if any? How often are you cross training? Do you adopt the 'muscle balance' form of training, ie: stabilisers and muscle you don't predominantly use while riding, but add to your overall endurance and power output? Reason for this topic is that I have been running these cross training sessions with a group of guys from our 'club', we have all noticed big changes and improvements, I want to see what others have to say about it.
  21. Hi All Anyone know of a web site or formula that I can use to calculate my required power output during rides? Thanks in advance

  23. I would like to hear what your opinions are regarding power meters for MTB - better on the bike or on an indoor trainer? I want to do the power training "thing" to see what all the hype is all about. I think it is all just phase that everyone is going through, I think next we will probably be using brain power meters to do training on I am thinking of buying a power meter, I like the Powertap MTB Hub. Is it really worth it? And how important is it to have the power meter during a race? Would it be ok to train with the wheel and when you do a race put on your racing wheels? I was just thinking because many people doing Cadence Cycling classes or use Watt Bikes but can't afford power meters for the bicycle, they can't see their power reading during a race. What other decent power meters really work for MTB?
  24. Has anyone used this hub in their wheelset? What is the quality of this hub like? If the wheel has been built up how much of a degreade is it when compared to the Mavic Crossmax SL wheeelset? Is it a worth while to get the hub?
