  2. For one thing is sure. Getting a sponsorship in South Africa is hard. I've had a few people asking me why I'm not sponsored yet. My results in road races has mostly been in the top 4 under 23, and the results usually show my name up with sponsored riders. My simple answer is usually that I have no idea where to start. I've been doing countless research on what sponsors are looking for, but except for results, being a good sportsman/woman and media coverage, I have no idea what else. So I would like to pose a question to sponsors: What are you looking for in sponsoring an athlete and where does one begin. Kind regards, P.
  3. Last year in August/September 2 boys from Westville in KZN took on the rest of the world when they, along with a few other talented South Africans, were selected to represent their country at the 2015 World Championships in Andorra 2Bros Take on Addorra was by all accounts a well supported attempt to assist these guys in leaving a mark on the international stage and help them to achieve a goal. Many Hubbers stepped forward and offered support in the way of spare parts, much needed funding and moral support. The net result was a 15th for Jono and a 38th for Chris (who crashed twice in his race run) So..... what's been happening since then? Well.... a lot actually and at the same time, not enough.... The boys and their father have relocated to PMB to be close to where the action is and allow the boys to train at the WC track as well as ride Cascades and all the awesome mountain biking around the area every day. Mom is still living and working in Durban so they only get to hook up as a family on weekends. The results speak for themselves though. The hard work and sacrifice is paying off! Chris is home schooling to concentrate on training and racing and Jono is focusing full time on training and racing. 2Bros Racing is a brand. (Much like Atherton Racing and I am pretty sure that is where the idea came from. Marc can correct me if I am out of line). It does however leave the impression that they are a sponsored team. This is not the case. Couldn't be further from the truth. The reality is that 2Bros Racing is a family concern that funds most of their requirements from the grocery budget with a little assistance from friends and family. They are riding dated equipment yet still kicking @ss and taking names. Imagine what they could achieve with the right tools........ Over the years there has been some generous assistance from some good people. These guys however are at the stage now where they need more that a few excess spare parts that came from someone's garage or a donation of a few hundred rand towards race entries and transport. They need proper sponsors! This is an opportunity to take your product/brand overseas and have it showcased by two very bright stars. These guys ARE that good. They have often been referred to as the next big thing in SA Downhill. I have a Sponsorship proposal that is unfortunately too big to upload. However if you know anybody that can assist these two guys or you are able to help in anyway, please PM me and I will send it to you via email. There is an opportunity here to help two rising stars! Really hoping that they can hook up with a few sponsors that can assist with equipment, travel, nutrition, clothing, etc. If we could finance the whole package, take some pressure off the family and help these guys achieve a dream that would be awesome! There was a lot of positive response from the gravity community last year. Here's hoping that we can follow through on some of those ideas Contact details are as follows: Website: 2Bros Racing They also have a face book page and if anybody wants to chat to Marc (Their Dad and Manager), please PM me and I will give you his contact details. PLEASE guys!!! Lets help these boys!!!!!
  4. I run the NPO Build-a-Bike SA (thread here) I need a 6m shipping container which I'm placing at the PWC Cycle Park in Bryanston. This will be used as workshop, storage and parts drop-off point. A container costs ~R20k. I'm offering any sponsor that is willing to contribute towards this container, or a portion of the cost, the opportunity to brand the side of the container for up to 12 months. Please assist if you can! Thanks, Nick

  7. Five Ten SA is looking for a Cape Town based Cape Epic team to wear and showcase their brand new Kestrel shoe. The Kestrel is Five Ten's flagship clipless shoe for 2015, aimed squarely at cross country and all mountain riders. It's super stiff, lightweight and designed to put power to the pedals as efficiently as possible. Features include a dual compound rubber sole (using Five Ten's Mi6 and C4 rubbers) and a BOA closure system. It's also pretty good looking. Each team member would be supplied with a pair of Kestrels, as well as various other promotional items. In return, we'd need feedback on the shoe, a race report from each team member and we'd need you to appear in a photo shoot after the Epic. We're not necessarily looking for a podium or top 30 team—we're just looking for a team that fits the brand well, and that can provide the right sort of feedback. Interested? Drop me a PM and I'll provide you with further details.
  8. To whomever it may concern We are a group of three friends (Anthony Edwards, Holly Spencer and Jonathan Wareing ) looking to do something amazing , over the past year and a half we have experienced some life changing events that have spurred us into action to do something inspirational and meaningful and we need your help to achieve this. Anthony and Jonathan plan to cycle from Johannesburg to Cape Town in a total of 14 days with Holly as our support vehicle. We plan to leave Johannesburg on the 30th of November 2014 covering a planned 150km a day leaving us with a few spare days in case of unforeseen issues .We plan on Staying over in Bnb’s and campsites along the route and visit many interesting places along the way .While we would happily do this just for the experience we have decided to use this as an opportunity to raise awareness for Erdheim Chester disease. Anthony’s father, Duncan Edwards, was diagnosed with Erdheim Chester Disease roughly a year ago. This is an exceptionally rare disease with his case being the second ever recorded case in South Africa and one of 500 ever recorded in the world. The disease is incurable and terminal. There have been many treatments done to people with the disease to stunt the progression of the disease and prolong their life. Unfortunately none of these treatments have worked for my father or they are simply too expensive for us to afford. No one can really explain what the disease is or what it does as it affects all the patients differently. My father is unfortunate in that the disease has affected his Central Nervous System, this only happens to 10% of recorded patients, he is therefore unable to walk and is wheelchair bound. He also has lesions on the part of his brain which controls coordination meaning he struggles to use his hands to feed himself and perform other tasks. This part of the brain is also involved in cognitive thinking, so he quickly becomes confused and struggles with his speech. He is currently on palliative care and the doctors cannot tell us how much longer he will live, but with each week we can see progression of the disease. We have decided that whilst attempting this tremendous task we would like to use it to raise awareness and raise funds for my father’s disease, ECD. Our plan is to approach various organizations, individuals and companies to ask for any funds that they may be able to sponsor us to complete the journey as well as donate to the research of this disease. We need funds for various expenses such as petrol, food, accommodation and repairs to both ourselves and the bicycles. All funds intended for donation will go towards the ECD Global Alliance based in America. This foundation aims to provide support to those suffering from the disease as well as to their families. They can also use the funds in order to fund further progression into the study of this disease so that more can be learned and hopefully future patients can be fully cured. We believe taking on such a task is a great way of raising awareness as cycle touring gains lots of attention from the public eye while on the road , it is also a way of showing people what they are truly capable of both mentally and physically in a similar way a life threatening illness does .The cycle tour will also hopefully encourage people to use their bodies while they still are capable of doing so as from experience we have seen that it gets taken away from you often far earlier than expected . Simply any amount or other form of help that you would be able to give us to help our journey in raising funds and awareness would be greatly appreciated. Any organization donating R 1000 or more will have their logo displayed in the support vehicles windows and possibly on the riders backs depending on the time of print of the cycling jerseys . For any more information regarding Erdheim Chesters disease , our route , us or how to donate please feel free to contact us at anytime Kind regards Anthony , Holly , Jonathan

  10. Hi, I would like to know if anybody on the Hub has gone through the process of trying to get some sort of sponsorship? Or if anybody has any tips in this regard? I started racing again earlier this year but I have now reached the cross road where my training has to increase drastically to try and catch the guys at the front. This in turn means that all of my maintenance cost will also become increasingly costly, thus the need for some kind of support. Any help or advice with this matter would be awesome!
