Only 2.5 hours from Johannesburg, just a few kilometres above Waterval Boven, on one of the highest lying farms in Mpumalanga, is a venue unlike any other that’s hosted an event before. This world class mountain biking event is part of the Highland Meander, where surroundings of unspoiled forest and mountain scenery will make way for the fastest mountain bikers in Africa!

 

The Misty Valley Lodge is situated on a Mountain which is 2500m above sea level with spectacular scenery and incredible mtb trails on the lodge estate and surrounding areas and forests.

ROUTE DESCRIPTION

This race will have you blown away with the exciting purpose built trails, fast forest tunnel sections, which seem to go on forever!

The area is home to 110’s species of fauna, flora and insects, with about 15 that are on the endangered red data list. Race through areas that have herds of Springbuck, Black Wildebeest, Eland, Red Hartebeest, Blesbuck, Zebra and other fauna and flora.

 

The 70km will involve traversing the best of the best areas in the direct vicinity as far as mountain biking as concerned and as usual the Advendurance team has put together some amazing trails to suite all levels of riders. The route thunders down the side of the mountain to waterfall-boven, on route you will tear down some challenging ravines, rock gardens, singltrack forest sections, long downhills, steep windy single track, bridges and river crossings… it’s definitely a very special and unforgettable experience! Oh yes... you have to climb all the way back up, to the finish!

 

The 40km will be made up of forests, gravel roads, fast single track, semi-challenging short sections with very scenic spots viewable from the route, definitely a must do for any avid mountain biker!

 

The 10km will stay on the property of Misty Valley, loads of single track, bridges, various game is viewable. The trails are flowing and fun, with some bridges and short uphills, definitely exciting for the novice rider,

 

HIGH ALTITUDE

Misty Valley Lodge is the ideal venue for any athlete interested in high altitude training located over 2000m above sea level. High altitude training is a widely accepted and used method in elite sports. The result is a dramatic improvement in blood oxygen carrying capacity - to help you work harder and longer and to train more efficiently. Generally, sport scientist place the increase in performance gained from altitude training in the 3-5% range.

Misty Valley...The words themselves seem to conjure up images of forested mountains and remote valley trails soothed by Africa’s morning silk and touched in golden sunlight.

Now imagine escaping to this magical place with nothing more than your beloved Mountain Bike and some likeminded enthusiasts.

Misty Valley Lodge is situated just above Waterval Boven in Mpumalanga and offers a variety of activities for the whole family, ranging from bird-watching and canoeing to lounging in the sauna.

Springbuck, Black Wildebeest, Eland, Red Hartebeest and Zebra are just a few of the wild animals that you will see while cruising the escarpment single tracks and exhilarating forest trails.

DIRECTIONS TO MISTY VALLEY LODGE

• Follow the N4 from Witbank towards Belfast, turn right at Machadodorp.

• Take the Badplaas road (R541).

• After 13km turn left on the Slaaihoek road, continue for a further 12km and turn right at Misty Valley Lodge.
