RedRover Posted July 8, 2011 Share I managed to put a dent in my back rim sometime in the last week or so - the question now is: 1) Is it OK to use? It was still holding air (until I stripped the tyre off)2) Is it repairable? I've entered for the Logwood Classic 70km on Sunday - will this make the distance? FWIW, it's a Giant PCX-2 29er Thanks
Johan Bornman Posted July 8, 2011 Share It is repairable. If it is still holding air, ride it like is for now and then have someone competent look at it. Removing dents from rims is a bit of an art that doesn't involve shifting spanners, vice-grips or pliers. 99% of such dents can be removed so that the rim is completely functional and reasonably aesthetic. Flat spots can be removed too, but not lateral bends.

They took the dent out, but the rim is cracked at the dent so it's a temporary fix only so I can ride Logwood tomorrow. Will go and see them during the week for a forced upgrade but
