TrailWarrior Posted August 11, 2011 Share Which is better? A 2 bolt stem face or a 4 bolt stem face on a road bike carbon bars? Which would be the better bet relating to stability, holding & safety? Any one to share an opinion?
Reg Lizard Posted August 11, 2011 Share I think 2 bolts weigh less than
AndreZA Posted August 11, 2011 Share 4 Bolt will always be safer. But you get 2 bolts that work like a hinge and they are safe aswell. I don't think it's the stem you should worry about but rather that carbon bar.

Goodbadugly Posted August 11, 2011 Share Dunno about road, but a friend had a EA 50 with 2 bolts on his mtb with a Monkeylite plastic bar and he just could not get the thing to stay put at the specified torque.

Falco Posted August 11, 2011 Share Just for interest sake?? Would 1 feel a difference between a Ritchey WCS Alu (direct4 axis) stem vs Ritchey Carbon Matrix Stem?? Is it worth upgrading??Stems, seatposts, bottle cages etc etc all fall into the same category. If you want the bling, and have the bucks, go for it. Will it make you a better or faster rider ~ not a chance.
Johan Bornman Posted August 11, 2011 Share With a stem, redundancy is your friend. The more bolts the better. A stem bolt that fails can be catastrophic and a faceplate with four bolts gives you ample warning that you are on your last bolt before disaster strikes. Thus: 4 x 4mm bolts are far better than 2 x 5mm bolts.
