RoboLuke Posted August 22, 2011 Share So you are rushing down a bump and need to slow down quickly to make a corner- Do you hit the back brake and skid down, or hit both brakes? If I hit the back brake then the back feel skids not exactly fully in control but at least the front wont lock out ?! Chubba Posted August 22, 2011 Share I'd hit both and close my eyes.
kosmonooit Posted August 22, 2011 Share Skidding means you lost traction.
Robrider Posted August 23, 2011 Share Your front brake gives you 70% of your traction. If you don't use it you are not going to stop very quickly.
Grebel Posted August 23, 2011 Share Use both brakes. Get your weight over the back wheel and try not lock up. Alternatively, lock the back, pitch it sideways, drag your foot and steer into the slide!
The OriginalSpartacus Posted August 23, 2011 Share judging by Grebel's avatar thingy he seems to be the authority on the matter, I would do whatever he says
The OriginalSpartacus Posted August 23, 2011 Share I don't race downhill but in XC I use both brakes, just put your weight back as Grebel said or you will buy some land somewhere in front of your bike!
Captain Fastbastard Mayhem Posted August 23, 2011 Share And DON'T, for F*** sakes, skid to a stop or around a corner when you're MTBing. Gives the rest of us a LEKKA huge braking rut to negotiate, and erodes the trail to no end.

I own a few nice pieces of real estate dotted all over the province of KZN...
