Mannetjie.... Posted August 22, 2011 Share Okay so i've tried putting my tools in a saddle bag and eliminating a camelbag when racing. Consequences? Well yes my saddlebag has let me down several times, and it doesn't help putting car keys in them either(I wont get into this right now). Then I tried no saddle bag and filling my back pockets with kit and snacks - result back pain, but I've never seem to have lost anything. So I have two choices reduce the goodies I pack in a race or take a camelbag again, I can do away with one of my bottle holders and add my gear in the bag and snacks in my pockets? What to do? It just seems the pros make this look so easy or am i missing something here?
Robrider Posted August 23, 2011 Share Its really about finding what works for you. The pros take minimal spares I think. Try looking for a saddle bag that doesn't break or work its way open (yes I've also lost car keys like that). Or else like you say, reduce what you carry. You also get those park tools bottles that fit in your bottle cage, but are made for tools and spares... You not missing anything, you just have to find what is best for you. Top Fuel Posted August 23, 2011 Share I have 2 bottle holders and put a 3rd seat post bottle holder on and put all my spares in there. You can buy little containers that fit in there. Then the food alone goes into my pockets and it is not heavy so all good. It looks like a lot but beats taking a Camelback!!

BushGoblin Posted August 23, 2011 Share what about a spare hanger bracket? unless you keen on riding single speed for the rest of the race.
