My first full suspension bike

Ok, here goes. Many years ago my brother and I had bikes very similar to this. It was about 1980 and we still lived on a farm. Man, we road these bikes, jumping anthills, racing down singletracks, crossing rivers, you name it. This was my first ever really lekker bike. Who of you remembers it, or had one?

Great to see the lack of brakes!

The good old days when the time taken to stop was directly related to the dexterity of your feet and the pliability of your skoene. That, and how quickly you could dismount!

Raleigh had one like that but I don't think the seat could adjust. One kid on the block had one while the rest had BMXs. He could not jump like the rest of us as the thing was just not made for it.

EDIT: Correction, think it was Western Flyer and not Raleigh.

WOW! Now there's a blast from the past. A mate of mine had one and jeez that thing simply did not peddle up hill, but once going down there was just no stopping it. Got my first concussion flying over the bars when landing a 5 ft (or so it seemed, I was much smaller back then) dropoff. Good times jumping everything in the neighborhood.

I had one as well...it was called a KMX and had back pedal brakes.

Riding to school I hit a jump in the vlei at speed, my schoolbag had more boost than I did and came up over my head causing me to do a no-hand superman sick air nippletwister landing in a ball of dust, bruise and blood. They sent me home when I eventually arrived at school...hardest wipe I ever had.

Don't remember the name, but yes they were made by Westernflyer. Our shocks started bending forwards from all the hammering we gave them, so we would ram the bikes into a wall until they sort of looked straight again. The plastic parts did not last long though and soon the bike was "bareback" :D
