Specialized Tyres

Recommended Posts

I'm riding a combo of Specialized The Captain Control, and Specialized The Maverick Control on my Stumpjumper.

I've done the tubeless conversion, but have had two punctures in the past two weeks and it's really irritating. A few people i've spoken to have said that Specialized tyres are quite thin and prone to punctures.

Do you guys recommend I change my tyres to the UST versions, or change tyre brands completely?

I've heard good things about Continental Race King and Mountain King combos, as well as Crossmark tyres.

Any thoughts/recommendations?

Got similar tyres with my Epic - they suck as tubeless. Go Conti or Crossmark(not as much grip as conti though) and don't look back.

No experience with Specialized UST tyres.

I've been using Spez 2Bliss for just over a year now with no problems. The Captain on front and Fastrack on the back.

There's a couple of us(about 12) from our training group that uses the Ust Fast trak LK and we all did the Trans Baviaans this year without any trouble and it has great grip. But saying that I had a sidewall cut the other day. They are lightweight but being lightweight it has a thinner sidewall and it has it's pro's and cons

Running 2bliss Fast Trak LK too........ and I'm impressed up to now. They weigh just over 500g......... Grip is good too. Prob not for extreme rides, but still good.

I have used Maxxis LUST, Conti -raceking UST and they are both good but heavy! I changed to Specialized Fast track rear and shauserwind "2bliss" and they are much lighter (100-150g per tyre)

2Bliss is Specialised's own UST standard which is not quite as overkill as the Maxxis and the Conti UST's I get away with using Maxxis foldable tyres converted to tubeless on the front, although they get a bit squirmy if ridden to soft. (I did this purely for saving 250g per tyre over UST)

I have found a happy medium in the specialised tyres. Converting non tubeliss tyres can be done if you are a lighter rider or the payoff is worth it for you, but even my light 66kg's was a bit heavy especially around tokai and karoo, so especially at the rear, I dont think its worth it. Just get a tubeless/2bliss and forget about it.

I had 2Bliss before, decided to change to Spez Fastrak UST, just to be safe. Compromising a bit of weight for reliability seems the right way to go with my riding style, where I often bundu-bash to overtake people (and add to that a heap of bad luck)!
