Witkop Posted September 17, 2011 Share Actually, this was the first "recreational/sport" Mtbike. THe first offroad bikes were military bicycles that were used during the Anglo boer war (second application of bicycles in war), world war I and every war thereafter. Dispatch riders rode on gravel roads, but Danie Theron also expected his riders to do a bike of cross country all mountain riding were every required. He "invented" the first tyre liner as well. The Americans were the first to make "sport" out of it.
