TEAM KOEKEMOER Posted October 13, 2011 Share Can anyone tell me if Dura ace shifters will be fine to use with a 105 groupset?

Sammajoor Posted October 14, 2011 Share You can use Dura Ace shifters 9 or 10 speed on any 105 Derailleurs and brakes.
CAAD4 Posted October 14, 2011 Share Not sure if the DA 7900 shifters will work with a 105 5600 RD.(maybe 5700) When 7900 was released I considered mixing the shifters with a 6600 rd and I was told that they were not comnpatible,by more than 1 lbs. Looks like you got conned by more than one LBS. Not only do they fix prices, but information too.

CAAD4 Posted October 14, 2011 Share Here is the chart they used at the time. Outdated, as 6700 and 5700 don't seem to be there, but shows 7900 stands on it's own.. http://www.shimano.com/publish/content/global_cycle/en/us/index/tech_support/tech_tips.download.-Par50lparsys-0025-downloadFile.html/01)%20Drivetrain%20Compatability%20Chart.pdf
nuge Posted October 14, 2011 Share the shifters vs rd/fd debate is frankly bollocks - i was running 105 10sp shifters with a shimano 600 (8 speed) rd and fd at one point - no probs. the reach is the same from 8sp to 10sp (just the cog spacing changes). the rd/fd have no influence on the indexing. Not quite. The 8 speed Dura Ace RD only works with 8 speed and below DA shifters. Of course the RD has an influence on indexing. Its a parallelogram, so when you pull on the cable anchor point the pulleys move a corresponding amount that is determined by the geometry of that parallelogram. For this reason you cant mix Sram.Campag and Shimano. Likewise, you cant use a new 10 speed Shimano MTB RD witb 9 speed Shimano shifters.
