Morewood Zula Value

Recommended Posts

My Zula has been on the wall in the garage for months now and I think it is time to move her on. My Shova has become my new love and there is no point having a bike I don’t ride.

My question is, what is it worth realistically?

It has the following components:

Morewood Zula - White/Medium

Reba fork

Fox RP23 shock

Thomson seat post and stem

Answer protaper riser bars

Cane creek bar ends

Specialised Phenom Saddle

Sram XO gears and Juicy 7 brakes

XT Crank and pedals

Mavic Crosstrail wheels

Race king 2.2 tubby rear, Mountain king 2.2 tubby front

The bike has been used and has a couple scratches. The fork and shock have been serviced this year at Omnico, and has been serviced regularly at JOC.

I did exactly the same as you about 8 months ago...I couldn't get it sold as a complete bike, but it went quickly when I started hacking her up. You will also get more moola this way. good luck man

People were very interested in the frame but not with the components(Full XO, hope proII + stans wheels, ritchey WCS and superlogic finishing kit)

Good idea, thanks. Will give the full sale a shot and then take her to pieces if I can’t move it.

Not really keen on the ball ache to move parts!

if the price is right it will move. people over value their bikes, the market is bad for most goods.

Yea it's schlep sending things all over the show, but it will go quicker and you will get more zars. Try doing the full bike for a month or so. Just to give you an idea, once I decided to break my zula up, I sold EVERYTHING in under 10 hours...no jokes, yet I still managed to get the amount(actually a bit more) than the price for the full bike.

I couldnt agree more, rule of thumb for me is half of new price is the starting point and depending on condition we go down. Also 29'ers are now more in demand, any prospective buyer first wants the latest tech, wheelsize and foofies, all of this must be taken into consideration. Like they say, your bike is worth what people are prepared to pay for it. :o

My feeling is around R15k for the unit?

Chubs, don't be too hasty to sell the Zula. I know you currently spending more time on the Shova, simply because it's something new and AM riding possibly appeals more to you at this stage. But believe me, you will miss that Zula once it's gone.

I use my Zula for long training rides and the odd race, and then Sundays I use the AM bike for playtime. And that combination of the 2 bikes actually keeps the sport "fresh" for me, because they feel so different. Just a thought.

I have the Zula and now biulding up a HT 29er.

Zula for technical training in Groenkloof/Fountains & long stage races

HT for long endurance training and flat drit-road riding.

Like Banna says - it keeps it fresh!

I concur!

besides... how can you part with a morewood (unless you're giving it to me for a ridiculously low price)

At one stage I had a Morewood Izimu (DH), Morewood Ndiza (4X/DJ), and Yeti AS-X (FR)... I knew I could only keep 2... and the logical choice was the Yeti and the Ndiza (seeing as how I don't venture onto the DH tracks as much as I should and the Yeti was more than capable of handling them...

but no! I sold the yeti, cos it broke my heart when I even thought about selling a morewood. So yeah, although my DH bike goes through long spells of abandonment... or it gets used as my "lend-to-a-friend" bike... when I do hop on her, I fall in love all over again.

But yeah... sidetracking aside... 15k does sound like a fair price for both buyer and seller.

ps. you're welcome to donate both Shova and Zula to me... they'd look great in the garage next to the other morewoods

I see R15k hanging on my wall when it could be in my bond/credit card, reducing interest. Sometimes the head has to think for the heart.

I road the Zula the other day and honestly hated it. The bike is very sketchy and twitchy going down technical single track and I feel very uncomfortable on it.

I can categorically state that the Shova has improved my riding and my technical ability. All I need for the Shova is a full lock out RP23 HV can (Fox are you listening?)and I would be sorted for all types of riding! Also the reason i got the revelation 120-150 adjustable.

In the event I ever need a bike for XC type of riding (which I don’t think I will, as I have a road bike) I would get a cheap used hard tail twenty naai her!

Sounds fair to me...

Just give her to me you dont deserve her, neglect is paramount to a mortal sin.

it's the bike I'm looking for. Unfortunately I blew the engine up on my father in laws land rover yesterday. Gutted.
