Mark250GP Posted October 28, 2011 Share Hi folks, I'm new around here (first post). I couldn't find anywhere to introduce myself so I'll start by saying Howzit! I bought a used Mongoose Otero Elite today with Rock Shox Reba Race fork's, the remote lockout doesnt seem to be working. The lever does turn the dial on top of the fork but it doesnt do anything, the release switch also does not release properly. I've heard it's a common problem but couldn't find any info on how to fix it. Is this something I can attempt myself or should I take the bike in to someone with a clue? Also can anyone recommend a good set of tyres that won't cost the earth? I'm on the West Rand close to Cajees... I will be doing a bit of a mix of road / trail riding and The rims are tube less. Thanks, Edited October 28, 2011 by Mark250GP
tombraider Posted October 29, 2011 Share Hi,and welcome to the hub.I actually had the same problem and found the answer right here on the hub. Search for "fixing MCDs" in this forum, and you will find a good post by Johan Bornman with pictures and all. My fork is like new after the treatment. Good luck. I think I'll take it in, looks like a job for someone that's opened up a fork before.

Around here we say, "if it aint broke, fix it." There are three things that can cause the lock-out to fail. 1) The first reason is complicated and involved and only affects botched installations. We assume that one is not for you. 2) The cable doesn't pull enough so that the lockout mechanism doesn't rotate to its full extent. Easy to test: Put the lockout lever in its locked position and see if you can, by hand, rotate the blue dial on top of the fork a bit more. If you can, you need a cable adjustment only. 3) Not enough oil, If the step above shows you that the lever does pull the dial all the way round and it still doesn't lock out. There is not enough oil in there. It is all described in the post mentioned above. Welcome to DIY.
Headshot Posted November 1, 2011 Share Johan, I'd add another possible solution - if the lock out has a threshold setting - the small knob on top of the rotating cable operated knob, and thats screwed right out, then it will feel as if the lock out has failed. Make sure the small knob is dialed in almost the whole way and see...
