Hubbers, I need advice on this one. Question marks indicate where I am unsure.

 

Frame/Shock/Seatpost/Handlebars - specialized

 

Brakes - either XTR or Formula R1?

 

Rear Derailleur/Front Derailleur/Cluster/Triggers/2x10 - SRAM or XTR?

 

Wheels - Roval Carbon fibre

 

Pedals - XTR

 

Tyres - Schwalbe snake skin

Formula R1's definately!! XTR Groupset

If you are going for light weight - Go R1 on the brakes.

 

Stopping power - I would rather go for XTR or even XT.

 

If you do shimano brakes - go Shimano groupset as well.

 

If r1 - go Sram - no reason - I just prefer Sram.

 

Its all about your personal style/preference - dont copy anyone else for the sake of it.

 

I threw the R1`s off my Morewood Zula and changed to Hope M4.

 

Do what suits you!

XT/XTR no problem

SRAM XX is the way to go. I have used SRAM on my downhill, marathon and Tallboy without fail. The XX Avid Brakes (2010) are as lately been giving some issues. I have to say that I have ridden the 2012 XTR with 8" rotor with the "so called" ice breaks and was not impressed at all. It takes some time before there is real breaking power. I have been riding two rings for more than a year now and have not had to consider going back to three rings. Getting the combination front and rear is key. Rear 11-36 and front 39-26 as the 42-28 you need to bear in mind that your 36 rear needs to make up for the gears that are lost. Paul
