Newboy Posted November 6, 2011 Share Some background, I am 1.88 m tall, weigh about 90 kg.I currently ride a Elsworth Evolve, it is about 3 years old. If I keep it I will spend quite a bit of money on it before Epic. Probably new suspension front and back as well as new group. The other option is to get a new bike. Currently the only options appealing to me is the SC Tallboy or the new Scalpel. I will definately stick to a 29 er. Any thoughts?
Jaco-fiets Posted November 6, 2011 Share Im keen on the cannondales lately so my vote goes for the scalpel. Specialized epic is also a firm favourite. So many good bikes these days so its a difficult choice. May the force be with you Edited November 6, 2011 by Jaco-fiets

If you want to stick to a 29er the new Scalpel seems to be tailor made for the Epic.

oneserv Posted November 6, 2011 Share I have just converted from a 2010 Evolve SST to the new 2012 Trek Gary Fisher Superfly 100 Pro. Did extensive research and spoke to a lot of riders at the Cape Pioneer, and the Gary Fishers are highly rated for stage racing.
Flea Posted November 6, 2011 Share I did the Epic on an Evolve- very happy, no issues. And I am taller and heavier than you.Read the review in Tread before changing, iI do not think there have been that many improvements to warrant a bike change. Most of the "newer" bikes on offer it is their first attempt at a full sus 29er anyway. If you change bikes now, you will spend money anyway as you will go through a set of components in training. Keep the bike you know and rather use the cash to do some upgrades and weekends away to break the monotony of Gauteng training... You can only do Breedts so many times.....
