jatho Posted November 7, 2011 Share this has been discussed at length on thehub..... But basically, shammy cream isnt really used for what it was originally supposed to be used for which was to soften the chamois that was used in cycling shorts to pad the shorts, these days manufacturers use synthetic materials which apart from being better dont need to be treated or softened. So in a nutshell, shammy cream is now really used to prevent chafing I dont think that a R200 tub of Assos shammy cream will work any better than a R40 tub to be honest and personally wouldnt pay that price, if you want a branded product that doesnt break the bank I'd suggest Mark II Shammy cream, costs about R40 a tub and works well, if you're looking to go even cheaper than use Fissan paste (maybe mixed with a bit of aqueous cream)

davetapson Posted November 7, 2011 Share Tub!? You can buy milking salve by the bucket. Not sure it costs R200 for a bucket, but it lasts so long, I forgot what I paid.

Azi Posted November 7, 2011 Share if you're looking to go even cheaper than use Fissan paste (maybe mixed with a bit of aqueous cream) I use Fissans bum creme (the one used for baby nappy rash) on my nipples when running. Its cheap, has served me very well and never requires reapplciation during even 6 hour runs in very hot conditions. I wouldn't even try anything else.
