At 120mm doesn't quite qualify as an AM beast. What's the thinking behind the machined aluminum A-stem?

The 920 innovates by incorporating our Direct Drive concept in its MTB version. The Direct Drive concept corresponds to the optimisation of all the steering station’s parameters in the aim of bringing maximal rigidity, reliability and safety to reach a maximum performance level. We arrive at this result through the use of a short and conical head tube 11/2” below and 11/8” above and the suppression of spacers since the adjustment of the handlebars’ height is now done through the use of our A-Stem reversible length setting the sections of which were clearly defined to optimise steering accuracy.

This is just ridonkulous! Right? To be fair, I kinda like the stealth look. But this is just the biggest piece of BS I've read in a while. Surely the gains, assuming there are, must be at a level where the average guy won't feel or know the difference. Not one single pro will be riding a 120mm bike anytime soon so what's the point? And very, very, VERY few guys riding a 120mm bike will ride it hard enough to experience anything close to all those descriptive words used in the space of three sentences.

 

I have the same beef Giant's Overdrive BS. Stuck in a "standard" (how many are there now?) with no AM stems available in the size and length you want. All this for some negligible gains nobody cares about except for marketers and easily-fooled-by-big-words followers of the-next-best-thing.

That is a lot of tech talk and specs being thrown about there .... but it is still only a 120mm travel bike, and by today's AM bike status that bike is just a XC bike
