Is it advisable to try to get a cracked welded up on a road frame?

and if so, where can I get it done?

Nope, been discussed before. Do a search and all will be revealed.

Cracked my frame also, had to bin the frame. Alu bike frames is heat treated, and welding it creates more soft / brittle areas next to the weld, where it will crack / break again.

Cool thanks Wannabe, I though as much

Cool.

If your currrent bike is insured, use the money to upgrade. I built me a nice "plastic" bike with the insurance money.
