Christopher Brunsdon Posted February 11, 2012 Share HI I have a 2011 silverback saturn and got a extra R3K to spend on it, but i am stuck on what to upgrade first. what would you upgrade first on this silverback and why I am looking at the Shifters, and FD and RD all 3 to XT from Aliveo. TX We have all been there ... but keep it as she is, nothing wrong with Aliveo and you never have to apologise to anybody on this forum or on the trail as to what you ride. If your really itching to burn cash then upgrade to external BB crankset - I went from Aliveo to Sram X5 two weeks ago (R1K pluse R250 for tool). Man, what a difference. But do start investing in tools to service your own bike first, ask around, shop around as some tools are overpriced. Look at a good floor stand as well, even those ones they use to display bikes (RRP R150) is good enough. From my own experience I've learnt that gear is just as important. A good Camelbak is essential, comfortable shades, comfortable gloves and comfortable bibs/pants are much needed.

Edge_Design Posted February 11, 2012 Share If you want to keep riding it and still want to upgrade then wheels and fork are the things to look at, they're going to make the biggest difference to your riding enjoyment! And if you look around on the hub you could get good quality brand new wheels and go tubeless for under R3k... As people say, hang on to the old stuff and change it back when you want to sell the bike one day. You're going to be disappointed if you spend it on the drivetrain... Apart from the bling factor, you will not notice much difference while riding (not enough to warrant the cost at least). Rather upgrade the drivetrain as it wears out than just for the sake of it...
