torque wrench

I bought the Axis set the other day. But for the life of me I can't get it to 'click' over at any torque setting.

 

I've tried tightening just about everything on my bike and short of stripping every bolt I can't get it to click over, even at 2nm.

 

Anyone else had a problem like this? Am I missing something (obvious)?

 

Nope, mine work perfectly.  It must be broken or you miss the click, it is pretty distinctive so maybe not.

 

Suggest you test it at 8Nm, at 2 it will hardly tighten, bigger chance to "miss" the click.

clamp a bolt in the vice and set it to 5 or 6 Nm - at 2 you will hardly feel the click

Cranked up the nm and it clicked immediately!

That look like "THE SHlT", must have been a pretty penny?

 

Edit: I don't see any local suppliers but look like ~R3k

I honestly can not remember what it cost but I remember it was cheaper at evans cycles (where I got it but I see they don’t stock it anymore) than at crc. If you buy one you will not be sorry and you won’t need another wrench ever.

EDIT: Am considering getting a one inch drive with reducers, since I can use the wrench for other applications.

 

Or would you suggest getting two different tools.

A one inch drive? What do you work on, combine harvesters?

 

A half inch drive torque wrench with reducers to 3/8" and 1/4" should cover most eventualities. Although the torque range on most 1/2" inch drive tools does not go low enough for bikes.

 

You would probably need a smaller wrench to get the low value adjustability.

 

I have a 1/2" drive heavy duty unit which goes from 20 - 250Nm; a smaller 3/8" drive unit adjustable from 20 - 120Nm with high accuracy and a small 1/4" drive, adjustable from 2.5 - 20Nm also highly accurate.

 

The big one was about GBP400 and the other two around GBP200 each.

 

All made by Garant, a fairly specialised German manufacturer.

They are refugees from my previous employer...

exactly why I went with the 1/4" drive, it goes from 4-20Nm. the 1/2"drive starts at 20Nm or something, not useful for that carbon seatpost/handlebar nuts/bolts -  which is why I bought it.

I won't lie I'm scared to ride my bike now. I worry it'll just collapse into a pile of bits. (partial comic sans applied)

 

I can't believe how 'loose' the correct torque measurement is. I must have overtightened everything by like ... 100 fold in the past.
