Kletterer Posted June 1, 2013 Share The trails and variation of terrain are great, the venue, too. The route marking is far below par. What happened? There were old markings leading to a locked gate, and at the highway culvert it seems that the first couple of riders turned left on the 1st lap. Why was there no clear sign at the junction? The marshall (if it was one) appeared to be more interested watching riders go under the highway than being on position at the turn (left/right????) I would come back to race at Voriberg, but this mess needs to be fixed first. Can't be that hard to get it right... MrFine
MrFine Posted June 2, 2013 Share Agree awesome trails, but route marking can be approved on .Took a lot of wrong turns now and again with other riders and by myself on second lap. Most of the problem area's are when you ride on the far side across the N4 highway.Had to do some back tracking.Great atmosphere at venue with a good vibe by all. RudoJ Posted June 3, 2013 Share Luckily I only did the 35 (30.5)km. Found the route marking dodgy in places but just looked at tyre tracks and it all worked out. Did an extremely graceful OTB dismount in some sand doing aprrox 25km/h, luckily no one was around then . I think part of the challenge is that the race spans across various farms/smalholdings. Plus: great route with good variation. the number of waterpoints, the venue as well as look and feel of the event. Not low key at all, but certainly not as "commercialised" as other events. My kinda vibe. Minus: Route markings could improve....some races use chalk at some points, and it works. Lack of PA system at start, Will be at nr 4 for sure Edited June 3, 2013 by RudoJ

Yup - something went seriously wrong with the route markings - on the "old" Route I used to ride around a 03:10 - 03:15, and when I came in, still waited about 30mins for prize-giving to begin, (and there were many people still out on the route). On Saturday, after 2 punctures, we came in at 3:45, and basically everyone had packed up and gone home - we were stone last. Funny thing is, we were only passed by about 5 people while repairing the second puncture, one of them which was a lady lying in 4th. Anyway, great terrain, but as has been said, route marking really needs to be jacked up a tad....
Heel Drop Posted June 3, 2013 Share on the first round when seeing the 3rd water point I turned left and followed the road as per previous races then on round 2 exiting the area at the same point there were a marshal indicating we must go right and the waterpoint magically moved closer to the road and not further up where it was earlier. I wonder at what stage did they cut out the kilometers for this part of the race and weather it was part of the original race ? Always likes Vori Berg but it seems that no one has gone over the route to make sure markings are clear prior to the race. One Marshall was sitting with his flag pointing me in the wrong direction and even seeing that I was going the wrong direction and other people the right direction did not even call me back to correct me - he just left me Sorry Clive you can do better then this seriously - like the terrain and the race but need to lift your game
